I've been insecure about my weak chin since my teens. I had fillers applied to my chin area about a decade ago but didn't like the look (it gave me a witch chin) so I've been hesitant of getting an implant. After an unsuccessful liposuction procedure that didn't help my profile a few years ago, I learned about sliding genioplasty. I thought the results looked so much more natural than an implant and I liked the fact that the genio pulls the skin around the chin forward. Plus the risks seemed much lower.
I just had the procedure on Monday, April 5th with Doctor Derek Steinbacher in CT. I'll post updates on my results.

Thanks for documenting! I’m so excited for my consult with Dr. Steinbacher in May. Was it $11k total just for the sliding genioplasty?

It was $11k for the genio, plus submental lipo and fat grafting. I would guess that if I had gotten just the genio it would have been closer to $7k.

I have contacted a surgeon to get a visit and know if I could be a candidate for a sliding genioplasty. I am honestly pretty scared. Not only about the operation itself and possibile side effects/damages/complications but also about possible unforeseen problems that come up many years from the surgery.

how high is the possibility that things go wrong and my "new" chin isn't as functional as the "old" one?

Thanks so much for documenting! I'm currently on a waitlist to get a similar surgery :)

So excited

rabidteddy5
It’s been a week since the procedure and I’m very excited with the progress! Im also very glad to be working from home because I’m still bruised and swollen. There’s some tightness in my lower lip and I feel like I sound weird when I talk, but none of my coworkers that I spoke to on the phone said anything about it.

I have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Steinbacher tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to eat solid foods and not have to wear the compression strap for much longer.

Waiting is the hardest part

rabidteddy5
It’s been 10 days after surgery and I still have some gross looking bruises. Talking is easier but I still feel some tightness in my lower lip that limits how much I can move my lips. I can’t fully smile.

Dr. Steinbacher directed me to only wear the compression strap for a few hours a day and at night for the next week. I can eat more solid food now but need to be careful of the sutures.

I can’t wait for the swelling to be gone! I hope to see some definition in my jawline.
