I forgot to add that the reason my chin looked so long last time was because I developed fibrosis in my chin. My surgeon said he had to remove 1 CM (!!) of fibrosis that had built up in my chin. I assume it was from the infection. NO WONDER!

Revision Done

Just providing an update since I finally got my revision a few weeks ago. I flew back to Mexico and even though my surgeon thought my result looked good, he agreed to do a reversal of half the advancement. So my chin would be moved back about 5mm which I was SO happy to hear as I thought that was how much it was going to be moved in the first place.
I asked him a ton of questions to make sure we were on the same page this time like will I get chin ptosis? What will happen to my mentalis muscle? Will my lips drop more to their original position? And how will you handle the excess soft tissue? Also, I still had an infection and every day for 5 days before the revision I had to go to his office for him to clean out the wound and I was taking antibiotics. By the 5th day the infection was seemingly cleared up.
Surgery day came and it was the same as last time. Although I felt less groggy afterwards and could maneuver by myself whereas last time I needed a nurse to wheel me around. My swelling on day 1 was WAY worse than last time, however my swelling went down RAPIDLY. Like twice as fast as the first surgery and was less annoying. My lips were a lot looser from day 1 and things weren't as tight.
I told myself that whatever I ended up looking like after this revision I'd just have to live with it because I'm not going through this again however I'm happy to report that I am over the moon happy with my result so far!! This is exactly what I wanted. My chin is a lot shorter and almost looks like old face but with a nice, subtle projection. My lips are almost as full as my lips before and my face just looks so well proportioned. It's been 2.5 weeks since my surgery and I know I'm still slightly swollen and can only get better from here.
Overall, I still don't think this surgery was worth it for me personally based on everything I went through. From the overprojection to the infection, this was a lot of trouble for something that I never noticed before. Ultimately, learn from my mistakes and:
1 - Make sure you're on the same page as your surgeon aesthetically. When a surgeon says they will decide in the operating room your final room, ASK THEM what the parameters are. I originally wanted 5mm and would've been ok with him going up to 7 but the 10.5 I ended up with was excessive and not what I wanted.
2 - Be patient with this procedure. The first time around it legit took 3 full months for me to feel remotely normal and start to feel like myself. I still thought my chin was too big, but by that point everything felt loose enough where I almost felt like I could live with it.
3 - if you get surgery in another country, make sure you go with a surgeon who is responsive and caring. Feel their vibe beforehand and ask what after care is like. It meant everything to me that I was able to contact my surgeon whenever (I had his personal phone #) and could reach out to him whenever with questions (even at odd hours). I can't imagine going through this and not being able to get in touch when I got back to my home country.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading and good luck with your procedure!

Getting a revision

On the infected lump...

I went on another round of antibiotics. So to this point, over the past 4 weeks, I've done a 6 day round of antibiotics (this is in addition to the ones I took after surgery), got an antibiotic shot in my glute, a 3 day topical antibiotic ointment and the wound/lump was still leaking fluid after all that. Went back to see a doctor and by that point the spot had gone way down but was still present so they put me on more antibiotics :( but the spot is tiny now and closed so it doesn't leak fluid anymore.

The swelling on my chin had been pretty stagnant for the past 2 weeks so I feel like other than residual swelling this is going to my chin. The projection is ok but I am not happy with the new unexpected vertical length. I talked to my surgeon (I was nervous to do this) but he was happy to do a revision. So in December, I'll be about 3 months post op (best time to a revision/reversal is before the bone fully heals which is around 3-6 months post op) and will have my chin pushed back about 5-6mm for a more conservative advancement and to remove the vertical increase.

As I said earlier, if it ain't broke don't fix it. I had a beautiful little chin that was recessed in a very minor way but didn't have any affect on my bite, lip positioning or my confidence. Like I said in my first post, I didn't even notice my chin was recessed until plastic surgeons started mentioning it (surgeons should be careful about this!).

I did this surgery because I thought it would be a small improvement but the facial changes I've been seeing over the past few weeks have been extreme and haven't been worth it. I'll be back to this review after my revision. Until then!
