WORTH IT$700
I came from LA to Tijuana to get chin liposuction from Dr. Lazos, and here is my COMPLETE journey and experience for anyone who is planning to do the same:
Scheduling the surgery:
I reached out to them via e-mail (and a few other doctors as well), but I heard back from Dr. Lazo's office the quickest. I think it was about 1 day later. I told them I wanted lipo for my double chin, and they asked for photos from all angles. They got back pretty quickly and quoted me $700 USD. This includes the surgery, chin garment, and a complimentary hydro-facial. Don't bother speaking with the other doctors if you're trying to get the best price. I already did the homework and emailed every one of them lol. Dr. Lazos is the cheapest and with the most positive reviews. Not going to lie, I was kind of hesitant because it seemed too good to be true, but I took my chances.
We continued exchanging emails and then we agreed on a date. They then asked me to pay $100 USD via Paypal as a deposit and to hold the reservation. But the $100 would also be applied to the total cost of procedure. Keep in mind, on the day of the surgery, you'll have to pay the remaining $600 in cash! They do NOT accept credit card, electronic payments, or anything else. So I repeat, CASH! They'll send an e-mail to you after you pay the $100 deposit with directions and any other information you'll need. It was actually really handy.
One slightly strange thing about the communication was that I think it was Dr. Lazos who was responding to my e-mails and not his assistant. I suppose it's not a big deal!
Day of surgery:
I took an Uber from my hotel to the border. Keep in mind, there's 2 border walk-ways I think. But I went to the one that was called "PedEast" because that's the one they suggested in the email. You'll know you're at the right walkway when you see a Jack in the Box right next to it. Walking over to Mexico was super easy. There were big signs pointing at the right direction and honestly, the border control to get into Mexico was kind of a joke. They didn't even stamp my passport or anything. They kind of just looked at me and let me in. Once you get through, there’s a security section to scan your bags like airport security. I didn’t have a bag, so I just walked right through without anyone patting me or anything. Once you’re outside, you’ll follow a small outdoor walkway that will eventually bring you to an area with a bunch of snack stands and where all the taxis are. I just grabbed any taxi and showed them the address. It took 5 minutes and $8 USD to get to Dr. Lazo’s office. I gave the driver a $10 and told him to keep the change. I’m pretty sure it should have costed less than 8 bucks and they ripped me off. But it’s just 10 bucks. Whatever lol.
Dr. Lazo’s Office:
The building is very new and modern. Once you walk in, you’ll check in with building security and they’ll take you to the elevator. I got off at whatever floor and immediately saw their office. The receptionist was super nice and checked me in. Although small, their lobby was well decorated, modern, and reminded me of a nice lobby of a spa you’ll see in LA. I got there about 15 minutes early because I didn’t want to be late. So I just sat for a bit before being called in. They called me in and brought me to get my hydro facial. The lady doing the facial didn’t speak any English and I honestly didn’t even know what that a hydro facial was. They used some sort of handheld tool to get all the dead skin off my face and cleaned out my pores. The facial lasted about 45 minutes and was pretty relaxing.
Meeting Dr. Lazos:
After the facial, I met with Dr. Lazos in his office to sign some paperwork. I have to agree with a few other reviewers and say that he gave off rude vibes. It felt like he didn’t even want to deal with me and wanted me out of the office lol. Although I was prepared for this, it still kind of threw me off because 1) I didn’t want him to mess up my surgery because he didn’t like me and 2) why was he so nice according to some patients and not the others? Anyways!
Surgery:
They brought me into the surgery room and the room was modern, nice, clean, and very white. They had the blinds down to cover the windows because I assume it was facing a busy street? I’m not sure.
There was a really nice surgery assistant talking to me at first and then Dr. Lazo’s came in. He did a good job explaining how the procedure was going to go which I really appreciated. He started by covering my face with a sheet and telling me that he’s going to first inject anesthesia fluid into my chin/neck. This part of the surgery was probably the most painful. He made a cut below my chin which just felt like a pinch and then started injecting the fluid in multiple areas. The fluid injection was the painful part, but it only last like 2 minutes. I’d say the pain was a 5 out of 10. After he was done, he told me that he needed to wait like 10 minutes for the numbing to kick in so he left the room. I was just chatting with the surgery assistant at this point and I felt no pain at all.
10 minutes later, Dr. Lazos came in and told me he was about to start. He inserted the cannula into the incision below my chin and started going at it. I didn’t feel any pain at all, but I did feel and hear something going in and out which was weird. After about 10 minutes, the procedure was done. I was surprised how fast it took! The surgery assistant then put a covering on the incision area (no stitches) and then wrapped my head in the chin garment. After I went into Dr. Lazo’s office, he gave me my prescription and I was on my way.
There’s a pharmacy at their building's lobby but it was closed by the time I was done (7pm ish?). Keep that in mind when booking your appointment. I wish I knew that before booking a 5:30pm appointment. Instead, I had to walk 20 minutes to the nearest pharmacy. Meds cost me about 20 USD.
I took off 1 star because of Dr. Lazo's bedside manner. Usually, I wouldn't care about this, but it just made be concerned
Days 1-5 Post Surgery: I’m bruised like crazy from my chin to my chest. To be fair, I do bruise easily but I didn’t expect bruising to be this bad.
Days 5-10 Post Surgery: Bruising has mostly disappeared, but I’m swollen and look worse than before surgery.
Days 10-15 Post Surgery: Most of the swelling is gone and I’m seeing the results! However, I’m developing lumps / fibrosis on my neck.
Days 15-20 Post Surgery: which is right now. I’ve been getting lymphatic drainage massages and the lumps are getting slightly better.
Overall it was a good experience from beginning to end, and I'm happy with my results. I hope the lumps go away soon though!
I took off 1 star because of Dr. Lazo's poor bedside manner. But this no way affects the overall positive experience I got from my procedure. Honestly, I usually wouldn't care about bedside manners at a normal doctors office, but it scared me a bit because this was cosmetic. Thankfully everything turned out well!
I do recommend Dr. Lazos to anyone looking to get double chin lipo! Great price, nice building, and happy with my results so far.
