How it works
- Our highly-trained Review Moderation team evaluates all reviews before they're published to ensure they're written by people like you and not a member of a doctor's office.
- This multi-step process takes up to 24 hours from review submission to publication.
- Doctors can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden.

Before
Day of surgery
As I mentioned before, I am an anxious person. I was calm up to the day of the surgery. My husband dropped off our children with grandma. We did not tell anyone that we would be driving to Tijuana and coming back as I am very private.
When he left, I started freaking out and thought of the worst possible scenarios and had a panic attack. Luckily I have prescription for anti anxiety medication that I take as needed. I have not needed it for a long time and I lost the bottle somewhere at home. My brain was just thinking non-stop that I was going to leave my daughters without parents because of vanity. After moving the house up and down I found my prescription for Xanax that was prescribed earlier in the year to me for another medical (not vanity) procedure. I took it and within 30 mins I was much better. By the time we got to the office I was completely relaxed.
After trying to figure out the parking and traffic circulation, we finally got into the parking garage to the building. The attendant gave us a ticket and instructed us what space to park in. There are many doctor offices in it. Dr Lazos is in the second floor. We arrived early and the small clinic was still closed. I was probably the second appointment. Since we drove in a rush, and at home I was really nervous, we did not have a chance to eat a proper breakfast. Well the building where the clinic is located has a small cafeteria restaurant on the main level and we ventured in. I had eggs and veggies and my husband a sandwich. It was delicious and just what we needed to kill time. When we returned, the office was open and he was with another patient.
We got the paperwork taken care of and I got to see Dr. Lazos. He said I was a good candidate for buccal fat removal but if I liked my round face to keep it. He told me he had it done as well as his assistant. I looked at both of them and decided I wanted to do it as their faces did not looked sunken in (my fear) just had a nice contour to them. I went back outside to take care of my balance (cash only) and waited for them to call me in.
The room is small and cozy and he had some music playing. I told him I was very nervous and that I had to take something to calm me down. He said he actually prefers patients to try to relax by themselves. I guess in the U.S. anti anxiety pills are prescribed by doctors as part of the procedure even with patients that do not need them. I do need them. I went in, rinsed my mouth with listerine (thank goodness, I was worried about the breakfast I had eaten earlier). He sat me on the chair and drew on my chin and neck were he would be removing the fat. I asked him to remove as much as possible. Anyway, he started with the buccal fat pad removal. He injected the anesthesia on each side inside my cheeks, cut, went in, pulled out the fat and then cauterized the wound. Done in less than 15 mins. I saw it and commented that they were small, he then corrected me and said they were bigger than average, haha. Next, was the chin lipo. He instructed me to lift my neck and put a cloth to cover my face. He injected the anesthesia to my chin and then the liquid to help with the suction. Made just one cut under my chin. For some reason I thought I was getting three (one by each ear too) but no, I guess his instrument is long enough to only need to do one incision. I felt very weird with the injected liquid. He proceeded to suction everything out. And then at the end went through all the areas again to make sure everything was smooth. I think this whole process, from start to finish took him less than 30 mins. He showed me how I looked but honestly I only saw swelling. His assistant then massaged the area and then put the very fancy black ninja type compression garment. I was given my post op care instructions, antibiotics and pain pills and sent home. I had a scarf prepared in the car to wrap around my head to not look crazy. That worked out great. Since it was Friday there was a long line to cross back to the U.S., it took us almost 2 hours to cross and another hour to get home. We made it just in time for regular pickup time for our children. My husband picked them up while I stayed home.
That day I started taking Arnica pills too as recommended by the doctor. I was icing the area and I found a donut pillow from our travels and slept propped up. However, I think I slept wrong with my chin looking down because blood accumulated in my neck area and I bruised horribly in the creases of my neck. I am applying Arnica gel and taking the pills religiously. Yesterday, I also started massaging my cheeks and neck area based on some YouTube videos of facial lymphatic massages. I think it has helped with the swelling. Yesterday, also I decided I couldn’t with the itchiness anymore and took a shower and washed the compression garment. My scalp and back of neck are super itchy where the compression garment sits. The shower was wonderful! And the warm water definitely helped. My daughter saw me and commented my face looked different. Mind you I was swollen, but when I asked her why, she said it looks smaller. Since she doesn’t know about the procedure either, that just made my night!
(They both think I am wearing the weird garment because I have a bad headache).

Making the decision
After thinking much about it, I logged in to RealSelf to see chin lipo reviews. Most of them were positive. I saw that Dr. Lazos in Tijuana had very positive reviews and decided to contact him after I verified all his credentials. I checked his instagram, FB, realself page and also the official certification web pages for Mexican surgeons to search for his name.
I am prone to anxiety, so research and having that knowledge gives me a sense of control. And also everyone should do this for any surgery! It is serious business!
I decided to move forward with the procedure with him because it was an office procedure with local anesthesia so I would be awake at all times (for my tummy tuck for example, I decided against since I would be under general anesthesia). Also all his credentials checked and he seems to be a newer doctor establishing himself in the business. What I like about this is that this means that he has the latest research and techniques that some older doctors and maybe not certified to do plastic surgery lack. Another reason I decided to do it with him of course is the cost! In the U.S. the quotes varied from 2-5k.
I transferred a deposit of 100 to secure my date and just requested the chin lipo and said I would decide on the buccal fat pad removal once I saw the doctor and based on his in-person advise.
