I knew I was self-conscious with my recessed chin ever since around junior high. I can’t deny that it never affected my self-confidence. In fact, it wasn’t until after surgery that I realized the effect it had on my life. Whenever I would gain weight, which would usually be around Holidays, I looked as though I didn't have a chin! ‘Movember’ became year-round, no joke! I compensated by growing a beard, but every time I shaved it, either for, say, graduation or family portrait photos, I felt, well, disgusted with my looks. Admittedly, even though I was able to grow and shape my beard to create that “perfect” jaw-line (with respect to my own face), having to constantly trim it was exhausting and tiring on my soul. I basically had to do it every other night – taking the time to trim it properly, making sure I don’t trim too much in the wrong area, cleaning up all the trimming, etc... Then the COVID-19 shutdown occurred and I was unable to go to the gym or do any outdoor activities. I gained about 20-30 pounds, which was still acceptable since everyone was stuck at home anyway, but then one day my beard became extremely itchy. I tried using a lotion, but finally had to resort to shaving it off which cured the itchiness, but that’s when I looked in the mirror and was disgusted with myself, mainly for two reasons. First of all, we live in the year 2020 where chin augmentation is a reality, and here I am suffering and not doing anything about it. And second, I couldn’t believe how I looked without my facial hair – I think I was about 10 stages below someone having no confidence at all. It took a week just to get used to the way I looked without facial hair! So, I decided to do something about it. After doing my research online, I found Dr. Rudy Rahban’s office. He’s awesome and his staff/employee’s go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. He’ll tell you everything that you’ll want/need to know. He suggested liposuction as well as a chin augmentation. No one there made me feel nervous about anything. In fact, the only time I felt nervous was the morning of surgery, right before I was about to step into the surgery-room. For some reason, my nerves spiked through the roof. I told him how I felt, but that I definitely wanted to proceed with surgery. I remember talking to him and the Anesthesiologist about the Lakers, and poof, I woke up and surgery was completed! Haha. Crazy. Liposuction definitely gave me more definition around my jaw-line and chin. Let me tell you, I used to always tint my car windows because I felt self-conscious about the way I looked, but now, 2 months after surgery, I feel great and I actually want to take the tint off. Listen, I don’t look like Brad Pitt or anyone sexy for that matter, and I don’t even think it’s about that. What this did was it fixed my self-esteem and my self-confidence. I don’t feel self-conscious about my looks anymore. Yes, I’m still overweight, but now with a self-confidence boost, I actually look forward to working out every morning. My ONLY regret is not doing this in my 20’s. But if you’re still reading this, then that means you’re considering something like this yourself. Trust me, check out Dr. Rahban’s office. They’ll do a great job.
