Talented Surgeon, Definitely Worth the Overseas Trip!

I am so pleased to have chosen Dr. Gurkan for my chin surgery. It has been life changing for me, I wish I would have done it years ago. There were pros and cons for travelling to Istanbul for surgery from the UK, I did find it more stressful being abroad and not knowing the language. Although, I did have to take my toddler with me, which anyone reading would probably think an insane idea, it was. However, it was all worth it as Dr. Gurkan is a very talented surgeon and I was able to afford to have an implant and under chin fat removal, which added to better results. The team were helpful, if you are travelling from overseas, I would recommend following their advice and staying in a nice hotel that can organise taxis for you. It’s definitely worth factoring it in as part of the overall cost, as we stayed in an Airbnb which made it more stressful. The clinic and hospital are in different parts of the city, and you have to be at the hospital very early, so if you stay in a decent hotel they will be able to help with organising taxis/ directions.

Dr Gurkan is friendly and welcoming, and his team did their best to answer all my questions. I think you have to bear in mind that it’s a different country, so culturally there is a different approach to customer service, and the communication was sometimes a bit difficult, but I understood that this would be the case when choosing to have a medical procedure overseas. The hospital was nice, the staff didn’t really speak much English but they utilised google translate, and they were all very friendly so I felt reassured. Although I think they thought I was mad when I asked to see Dr. Gurkan before having the anaesthesia, but I suddenly got very worried. When he came into the theatre, he was very calm and reassuring.

It has been around 5 months since my surgery, and I genuinely feel so much better about myself. I also really think that after lots of research into surgeons in the UK, Dr Gurkan is far more qualified and talented. I’m so happy I was brave enough to go for it!
