At the age of 60 I had finally had enough of back, neck and shoulder pain and headaches. I had bra-strap grooves on my shoulders and rotator cuff problems in my shoulders. I couldn't wear dresses that weren't tents as anything shaped certainly wasn't the same shape as I was. And I couldn't wear anything tucked in to skirt or trousers as I looked like a sack tied round the middle. I couldn't get near the sink or my dinner on the table without my chest getting in the way, and I really did catch my nipples on door handles. And forget running for buses or going to the gym - that just wasn't happening. And in all those years it never occurred to me that I could do something about it until my chiropractor and the physiotherapist both suggested that the back/neck/shoulder pain might be related to my breast size, and had I thought about reduction? So I did. And it's one of the best things I've ever done.
Pros and cons will vary depending on the individual's perceptions and what they hold to be important. For me looks don't really matter, I just wanted to get rid of the aches and pains. So yes I have scars (you can't do this without scars) but already - 3 months on - they are settling down and I am pretty much back to normal day to day activity. Not only that, I feel my breasts are back up to where they should be - not halfway down to my stomach, but up to where dress manufacturers think they are... which means that I have now, for the first time in about 45 years actually bought a dress to wear!
Immediately after the op there was lots of pain and lots of painkillers, but that only lasted a few days and was managed with paracetamol. Not being able to stretch properly lasted about 6 weeks or so but gradually gets better if you don't rush it. Again, 3 months on I'm back to normal. And I'm finding I am able to do all sorts of thing I had forgotten, or had taken for granted I could not do over the years. Silly things - like being able to fold my arms under (rather than across) my bust. Being able to see my trouser waistband button and do it up without having first to elbow my boobs out of the way. Standing up straight - that sort of thing. It's done wonders for my confidence, my dress sense, and even my ability to swim (much less drag-factor!).
So yes - best thing I've done in a long time, and I wish I had done it a lot sooner.
