Hello all.
I'm a 32 year old female who had septo rhinoplasty surgery June 6, 2017 with Dr Moynihan in a Chicago.
I am currently 4 days post op and will be sharing my experience with you all as the days pass. I have akwsys had breathing issues since childhood. My mom use to squeeze my nose with her fingertips as well as put clothes pins on my nose to make it skinnier and smaller. This is a common practice in south Asian cultures. Before surgery I had a beak like nose that dropped at the tip and dropped even more when I smiled. Over the years my nose had grown longer, droopier and more Assymetric in appearance. I was unable to breathe through my left nostril due to a deviated septum. I also have a long history of allergies and asthma. I had a consultation with Dr Moynihan in Chicago. We discussed what the best surgical approach would be for my nose. He stated that he would like to bring the nose bones closer together, lift and refine the tip, eliminate the hump, reduce my nostril size and to try to correct my deviated septum and Assymetries . I showed him some photos of the Jose styles that I liked. I really like East Asian and more rounded and softer appearing noses. I also explained that I like more round nostrils common to East Asians. I stressed that I did not want a skinny European style nose as that would clash with my ethnic south Asian identity. Dr Moynihan said that he would keep my nose ethnic and that he preferred the oval shaped nostrils as they are more aesthetically pleasing. His before and after photos are amazing on his website and I knew he was the doctor for me. He was very straight forward and honest with what he would and wound not do. I showed him a photo of a girl whose nose was identical to mine who had surgery in Korea, he stated that my nose would look better than hers. I was soooo excited to hear this. Fast forward to surgery on Tuesday June 8th. I was scheduled for 8 am where I checked in and filled out all the necessary paperwork. I gave a Urine sample to check for pregnancy. My brother took me to my appointment and kept taking pictures of my preop nose in the waiting room. He kept making slicing noises of my nose being chopped off, lol. None the less he was not vet comforting. He could see how nervous I was getting as the time grew near. My parents did not even know about my surgery as my mom would freak out and would probably bring out the dreaded clothes pins to fix my nose!! Any how, I put in my gown and hair cap along with my footies, the nurse checked my vitals and went over any Meds I was taking. The anesthesiologist who resembled my dad came in to talk to me next. Dr Moynihan came in to speak with me as well to go over expectations . He informed me that I should not be in much pain after the surgery, in my head I thought yea right !! I was then wheeled into the surgery suite. The anesthesiologist put the mask over my mouth and told me to take slow deep breaths. The last thing I remember doing is praying to god and praying for my family. I then woke up from my slumber to a nurse beside me and god awful dry eyes!!! I kept trying to lift my hands up to clear the gunk from my eyes and the nurse kept telling me no and to not put my hands near my face, I must have been pretty out of it because I couldn't verbalize to hear that my eyes needed a damp cloth to them. I came to and my vitals were checked again. My blood pressure was a bit up at 137/76. My nose was so stuffy and throat was dry. The pain was very very minimal. I was then taken to the recovery room where my family came to see me. Their jaws were wide open as I lay in the bed with bloody gauze wrapped under my cast bearing nose . The looks I was getting from them, you would have thought that I looked like Michael Jackson after his 10th nose surgery! My 9 year old nephew had both hands around his mouth and kept shaking his head back and forth.
When I got home, I felt good, the nurse had have me a Norco for the pain before leaving. I went for a light walk with my niece to increase my blood flow and to try to get some of the anesthesia out of my body. My arms and legs were numb from the anesthesia. I didn't sleep well that night. My nose was so stuffy and throat were soooo dry . I had to keep changing the gauze under my nose as it kept bleeding the whole day.
I slept at a 90 degree angle.
The next day on June 9th, I was more stuffed than before, I cleaned my nose with qtips dipped in peroxide. There is a lot of dried mucous and blood in my nose. I took my antibiotics as I noticed some yellow mucous in my nose and throat along with big chunks of it. I didn't have as much bloody drainage as I did the day of surgery .
I slept a bit better tonight.
Dr Moynihan did call me the evening after my surgery but my phone had fell down the toilet. I was so happy to see he had called to check on me.
Day 3 Thursday my face is swollen and so tight that it feels like I had a facelift. I'm taking arnica and Bromelain to help. My nose is soooo congested and stuffy and I can't breathe through it. I have a little hit of black eyes coming in. My eyes never got so swollen that they shut though. So the swelling actually wasn't as bad is it could have been.my duet us chicken soup, smoothies, water and juice.
I did notice after surgery that my nose appears assymetric at the nostrils. The right nostril is karger and sues higher than the left nostril. I pray this is just swelling and due to the taping and cast. Will ask dr Moynihan about this Monday for cast removal.

Hello everyone I am now 1 month Postop and am going through states of liking and hating my nose. It looks different every day and some days is more swollen than others. I tape my nose at bedtime per Dr. Moynihan instruction. I have no discomfort. Recovery has been very smooth and I went back to work after 2 weeks without any issues. My nostrils are still very uneven and assymetrical. I like my right nostril, the left nostril is long and skinny and when I clean the left nostril with a qtip it feels more swollen and tighter Vs the right nostril. On the top of my nose right above the left nostril I feel a hard lump and when I press it, I can feel it inside my nose. The stitch inside of my left nostril still has not dissolved. I tried to pull it out but it hurt and bled. The surgical coordinator told me about 2 weeks ago that it should dissolve and that I could trim the stitch. But I want Dr Moynihan to see it first. I'm not sure if that is why my left nostril is so uneven because of the stitch. The right side of my bridge looks and feels more smooth compared to my left side which is more lumpy with dips and dents. Also when you look at my left side profile my nose protrudes out more at the tip, which I don't like. I like how my side profile looks from the left side better. My bridge does not look completely straight from the side view and It dips. Gotta wait a year for results :
