For years I had fatigue, head aches, and extreme dizzy spells. After countless dr visits and tests, one test came back that I had a severe sinus infection. After meds/time and a year and a half I was diagnosed with acute sinusitis.
I saw two ENTs. One voted for sinus surgery and one said that I didn't need it because I did not have polyps just a severe deviation that was causing mucus to not drain properly and get infected. Regardless - both ENTs told me that I had 3% airflow in one nostril and 60% in the other which is what was causing my dizzy spells and heart palpitations.
My father suggested I see a plastic surgeon who could preform a septoplasty instead. Recovery looked better than sinus surgery and it would create an ability to breathe. I saw Dr. Mustoe, the only plastic surgeon that I did see, and felt at ease. He had extensive experience with septoplasty and made me feel comfortable that my nose would look natural.
Price was important to me and although I know you get what you pay for - I need things to be clear when I am paying over 9000 for something. I was a little disappointed with some of the transparency between Dr. Mustoe's office, the surgery center, and myself. I eventually dropped my questions - however going forward the office was great.
The surgery itself took a bit more recovery than I would have liked. I took 10 business days off of work for recovery and really needed all of them! Even now 15 days post surgery my nose is still really numb and sore. I do think the surgery was worth it. Already I can breathe through my nose and sleep a lot better. Also, my dizzy spells have reduced dramatically and my nasal passage is still very swollen!
