I had my first Rhinoplasty surgery about 10 years...
WORTH IT
I had my first Rhinoplasty surgery about 10 years ago and as a result had a completely collapsed septum on the right side. My nose was also a bit long for my face and curved. Through the year, I had considered finding a surgeon to fix these issues (especially the breathing), but was extremely hesitant to go through the pain process and the "is it going to look worse than it does now?!" notion. After finally getting irritated enough, I met with a few plastic surgeons. Most of them left me confused with the procedure they wanted to perform. Not to mention they spent a total of 10-15 minutes with me and said "I was a tough case". Naturally I left those surgeons uneasy about moving forward with the procedure all together.
When I met with Dr. Mustoe, he spent about an hour with me making sure I was comfortable with the details of the surgery. Everything that he recommended was exactly what I wanted done. He recommended re-breaking the bridge of my nose, shaving down the sides, straightening my septum with existing cartilage from my nose, shortening the tip.He explained how he would accomplish my goals and told me what was realistic. We then proceeded to his office where he showed me a bunch of befores and afters from similar procedures to mine. I left there feeling excited and comfortable with what we discussed, but seemed like a lot of work.
I finally decided to go through with the surgery and Dr. Mustoe was professional and responsive through all of my questions & emails leading up to my procedure. The day of my surgery Dr. Mustoe came into the room to once again walk through the procedure we discussed and agreed upon. The facility where he performed the procedure was fabulous! All of the staff was so nice and accommodating. After surgery Dr. Mustoe came into the room to tell my mom and I that he was very happy with the results and was able to do a lot more to help my breathing than he originally thought.
Recovery was MUCH easier than the first time. I remember being in so much pain that even the painkillers weren't helping. This time i took the pain medication maybe 2 times a day and had Tylenol in between. My stitches were so much cleaner than the first time. I would say the worst part of the entire thing was getting the stitches out and trying to blow out the dissolvable packing.
It's been about a month and I'm so happy with the results! Though still very swollen, I breath so much better! My nose is actually straight and fits my face so much more. The best part is that I don't look different, so no one really notices. He did such a great job and my recovery has been so easy.
