I am 42 years old and have been suffering from...

I am 42 years old and have been suffering from axillary hyperhidrosis for about 12 years. It's become worse over the years and I've been taking oxybutynin for the past 2+ years. I am a sales executive and am in front of employees and customers on a regular basis. Prior to taking oxybutynin, which is a drug used for overactive bladder, but one of it's side effects causes severe dryness, I would always wear clothing that would not show the sweat marks under my arms such as dark shirts, sweaters, sports coats etc. If I was away on business often times I would have to go to my hotel room and change shirts or use the hairdryer to get rid of the sweat marks. It was a real problem and it was very embarrassing when people noticed it.

The oxybutyinin helped quite a bit and I was very thankful that my primary care physician was able to address the problem with this drug. However, there were unwanted side effects with taking it. I was always dry, especially in the winter months and my hands would be rough and cracked...not good when you're shaking hands with people everyday because your job depends on it. In addition, my mouth was constantly dry and I was much more tired than ever before. I also began having some pretty severe breakthroughs and the only way to fix the problem was to increase my dose, which I was not willing to do. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to deal with it...until now.

I saw a local story on the news about MiraDry and scheduled my consultation right away. I had my first treatment on September 20th in Chestnut Hill, MA with a nurse from Dr. Kaminer's office. She was terrific! From start to finish it was about two and a half hours. The worst part of the treatment was the numbing medication, which had I read more of these reviews beforehand I would have been better prepared. Both my arms went numb and I had tingling in my fingers for about 5 hours after the procedure. For the most part the procedure didn't hurt with the exception of some hot spots under my left arm, which were quite painful for several seconds before it cooled down. I iced for about 48 hours after the procedure and I had lots of swelling and bruising (see picture which I took the day after the procedure.)

I stopped taking the oxybutynin and I feel so much better! No more dryness and being tired all of the time. The first several days to a week after the procedure I had absolutely no sweating at all, but I do occasionally sweat now, but not nearly as bad as I did before. I will clearly need to go back for a second treatment. However, I still do have some swelling and occasional pain under my arms even after three weeks. The second picture I posted was from today. There's no more bruising, but I think the little bit of swelling is still evident. If it doesn't go away within a week or so I'll give my doctor a call.

Overall, I am very happy with the results and would recommend the MiraDry procedure to anyone who has been suffering from severe axillary hyperhidrosis.

Dr. Kaminer is the only MD in the Boston area to offer this procedure. He was very thorough during the initial consultation and spent lots of time answering my questions. The office staff was very friendly and the nurse that performed the procedure was exceptional!
