Having been asked for more information............ Here it is
I am 55 years old and have always a had large breasts, which were out of proportion to the rest of my body. At 5ft 2 ins, slim, petite frame I had neck, back and shoulder pain for most of my adult life. After the birth of my son, 23 years ago the size of my breast increased and I wore a size 30G bra. I had all the usual problems, strap indentations, red marks, rashes under my breasts, not able to find clothes that fitted properly. I also had 3 episodes of mastitis which left me with one breast significantly larger than the other. This had always been the case but the difference in size was much more noticeable after the mastitis. I hated having large breasts. Aside from the physical problems they are unflattering and ageing. I had applied for surgery on the NHS and was refused.
After deciding I would fund the operation myself I researched breast surgeons in the UK and chose Gary Ross. I chose Gary because of his experience, excellent results and feedback from patients /other health care professionals, low number of post op complications and the anaesthetist working with him. Both Gary and the anaesthetist had worked at a specialist oncology hospital and performed many breast reconstructions . Gary was well qualified, experienced in this particular type of surgery and was known internationally for his work.
A consultation appointment was arranged quickly, Gary replied personally to my original email and both Gary his PA extremely helpful when trying to schedule a date for surgery. I have a busy job and had a number of weekend trips booked. Gary juggled his list to make sure he would be around post operatively as he had a conference to attend in London and I wanted to have this op as quickly as
Possible. Once I had made the decision I didn't want to wait. At no time did I feel was under pressure to choose Gary or even have surgery.
Pre operatively the whole procedure was explained to me thoroughly, I was shown pictures of women that Gary had carried out breast reductions on and was given a reaslistic idea of what the outcome was likely to be. I wasn't at all worried about the operation or his ability. My main concern was contracting an infection or some other post op complication. Antibiotics are given as a prophylactic measure so no need to have worried.
I was admitted early morning , Gary and the anaesthetist were already there. I saw both of them before surgery and once again the procedure explained.
I'm not sure how long the op took but when I woke in recovery the theatre nurse was lovely and organised additional pain relief. Back on the ward I was monitored every half an hour and when fully awake able to eat and drink. I had no bandages or drains, just dressings. The first night was uncomfortable as the inflatable boots used to prevent DVT were inflating intermittently all night. I was regularly offered pain relief and took co-Codamol but I could have had something stronger if I needed it. The next morning Gary came to see me with his assistant surgeon and although I had extensive bruising , particularly one the right side he was happy for me to go home. I was discharged with detailed post op instructions and reassured that I could contact Gary or the hospital ward at any time if needed. The results were fantastic, despite the swelling and bruising I could see that my breasts were almost fully symmetrical, a lovely shape and no longer dropping down to almost waist level. Yes it was painful and uncomfortable for quite some time and I had to sleep on my back. The bruising and swelling was extensive but I had been expecting this. I wore a total support bra day and night for six weeks and did develop contact dermatitis towards the end of that period. Six weeks post op and the swelling and bruising was subsiding and I applied hydrocortisone cream for the dermatitis. I followed all the post op advice and started to massage in E45 cream 2-3 times a day when the wounds were healed.
It is now 2 months since my surgery. My breasts have healed well and I am wearing a 32DD bra. I no longer need to wear such a tight fitting bra, my breasts are soft, a lovey shape and the constant neck and shoulder pain has gone. The scars are already starting to fade and I am still massing E45 cream in twice a day. I am absolutely thrilled with the results, it is easier to find clothes that fit, no gaping or having clothes creating a shelf 6 ins in front of my chest (women with large breast will understand what I mean).
I already have an appointment for a check after six months and know that I can call Gary or his team at anytime.
I wish I had done this years ago!!!

After suffering from recurrent neck and shoulder...

After suffering from recurrent neck and shoulder pain, struggling to find clothes that fit properly and spending a small fortune on underwear, I had a breast reduction and rejuvenation in October and am thrilled with the results. Neck /shoulder pain gone great shaped breasts in proportion with my body.

Gary Ross was professional, realistic and did a fantastic job. I am a health care professional and researched breast surgeons thoroughly before choosing. He made a real effort to to make sure surgery was done at a time that suited me. The associated risks were explained thoroughly and he did not over promise about what could be achieved. The results exceeded my expectations and all times I felt that I was in safe and capable hands.
