Hi guys, I've been really active on this site and feel as though the reviews have really helped me out through my short journey so far so thought I would share mine.

I'm 26 years old and finally taking the plunge I've always wanted and am booked in for my Rhinoplasty with Dr Shahidi on 15th March.

I have done ALOT of research and have decided that Dr Shahidi was the way to go. As a plastic ENT surgeon, he has plenty of experience and I trust that his focus on Rhinoplasty will ensure the result I want.

Issues with my nose: I have a roman profile which is a large hooked down nose, in particular when I smile. My nostrils are quite large and when I smile front on stretch out, causing for my tip to appear more pointed. After seeing Dr Shahidi it turns out I have issues with my septum which I never knew, so there will be a medical benefit to having this operation (slight Medicare rebate can be claimed). Dr Shahidi gave me what was a realistic overview of what my nose would look like, he explained that I have a bloody vessel in my nose that he cannot do anything about, and after the op may become more visible. His experience is only slight visibility when this occurs so I'm willing to take the risk. Also, the profile I initially wanted was not one that suited the rest of my features, he did the computer enhancement of what would suit and I 100% agree with him.

When someone is quite literally playing with your face, you want to be absolutely confident in their ability to achieve optimal results. Dr Shahidi is by no means a warm man, but he is extremely professional and honest which I respect more than anything, and if he was anything different I don't think I would have chosen him. His staff are lovely and have been extremely helpful so overall I am very comfortable.

I have been told all the same as everyone else about the healing process so I think I know what to expect, although it is my first operation ever so you can never really fully anticipate what will happen, fingers crossed everything goes well and I have a smooth recovery.

Beyond excited for what's installed, attached are the consult enhancement of my nose, I want to make sure I get it right and am considering slightly smaller...thoughts?

If I have missed anything or if anyone has any question please feel free to ask, I'm extremely open about this entire process and am happy to share :)

Xx

Hi There! Good luck with your op! I have a very similar nose to you (Roman profile) and I have a consult booked with Dr Shahid on March 14th. I hope you post heaps of pictures and details about your recovery as that will help me so so much! I have a couple of questions about your post above if you don't mind? - what do you mean when say you have a 'bloody vessel' that may become more visible? - what was the profile you initially wanted? and why did he say it would's suit you? A lot of his noses are upturned and I really don't want that - so want to make sure I can get a straighter style from Dr Shahidi. Thank-you!!

Thank you! Do you have any consults with other doctors? Don't be put off if he's not warm and overly friendly, he was very honest around what my expectations were vs reality and that was actually really comforting. At the end of the day, he's a professional and ultimately knows best, but you have to be comfortable and trust whoever it is you choose to go with. He indicated during the consult that I had a blood vessel in my nose that he could not touch and any work that he does will be around the blood vessel and he said that there was a small chance (a chance none the less) that it could become more visible, but you've got to be prepared that he is a surgeon and needs to tell you everything that may/will happen so that you don't go ahead with an unrealistic expectation. He did say that it was quite common so I trust he knows what to do with it. The photos I showed him didn't suit my face, a lot of mine were slightly sloped and suited a softer profile, but because I have quite a harsh profile (prominent nose and chin) he suggested a more straight shape that would suit the rest of my face. Overall I'm really happy with his recommendation it made total sense when he did the computer generation of the 2 shapes, I just hope that it looks good front on (narrow, straight, smaller tip) Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions :)

I'm only booked in with him at this stage. Main reason is I've looked at all his pictures compared to other surgeons and, his seem to be superior. I also read all the reviews on this site and others and there seems to be almost no negative experiences at all, while other surgeons have a few terrible reviews. In addition to that - I like that he specialises in rhinoplasty and doesn't do all other types of plastic surgery.

I agree the scary part is what it will look like front on! I have been using his app and trying to get a sense of what I might look like with a different nose.

Can I ask after your consultation, and your decision to go ahead and book, how long is the wait for the actual surgery?

Thanks!

I found the same thing, some of the reviews from other surgeons were either really good or really really bad which was a little scary, Dr Shahidi had really positive reviews and I also know someone who had theirs done with him which helped. I had my consult early December and my op is in March, however I could have had it in January or February but the dates didn't suit me but the wait isn't long at all just depends on your dates.

Surgery Done !!

So the big day has arrived and the surgery is done and dusted! I was admitted at 6.30am and discharged by midday, a lot quicker than I anticipated. The surgery happened really fast, Dr Shahidi and his team were AMAZING!! I cannot thank them enough as I was extremely nervous this being my first operation. Am home now and the real hard part begins! I have a killer sore throat (probably the worst part) and the medication makes me feel weird and yucky, but I suppose it's better than being in pain. I'll continue with updates during the next week on my recovery.

Hope you're recovering well.
March 15, 2017
wow that is quick! Hope you're feeling ok. Keep posting updates :) I'm looking forward to seeing your results! I had my consult this week - but I left feeling more unsure about it so haven't booked anything yet. Where did you get the computer images? Did they send them to you after the appointment?
March 16, 2017
Hey I have my appointment in a week and I'm nervous too! Do you mind if I ask why you feel more confused now?
March 17, 2017
The time with Dr Shahid was very quick so I didn't really feel like I got a chance to discuss things in any detail. I assume this is because he sees a lot of people that don't end up booking the surgery so perhaps does not go into depth until your second/pre op appointment.

I also wasn't comfortable with my computer image as he suggested a very feminine style with a scoop and slight upturn tip - but I don't think that suits my face. He said that if your not comfortable/prepared for a bit of a range of outcomes (i.e. not perfectly what you wanted) you shouldn't have the surgery.

So I'm just not 100% sure at this stage. My family and friends are also very against it, so that makes it a lot harder too.
March 19, 2017
I see. I'm flying up from Melbourne to see him next week and that's my worry, that he's just going to rush me out.
Was he able to suggest another nose shape for you or pretty much what you see is what you get?
March 24, 2017
I actually ended up emailing the practice and talking to Raleigh (manager) about my concerns. Dr Shahid re did the photoshop image based on my request for a straight nose and now I'm really happy with it - so I think I'm booking in!!
March 25, 2017
Oh that's great! How exciting! If I'm not happy with the nose he shows me on Tuesday I hope he fixes it then and there. I've paid so much in flights and the consult that I don't want to leave unhappy!
March 25, 2017
Ps: do you have a surgery date yet?
March 25, 2017
He definitely has a preference for scooped, slightly upturned very feminine noses - so if that's the style you like it should be fine. If you want a straight style, he might take some convincing. I'm from interstate too so had to fly to Sydney just for the consult also - it's a lot of extra cost!
I think I'll book for the end of July as I think that's the soonest I can take off work. The earliest spots he has now are end of June anyway.
March 25, 2017
Yeah I think I'm after something more upturned anyway.
Yes so much extra cost, especially if I decide to have the surgery with accommodation and all that! How exciting you're gonna book! So I hope the surgery isn't super expensive :/
March 26, 2017
To give you an idea of cost, I was quoted approx. $11,000 for surgery plus $1300 for anaesthetist and $2500 for hospital bed. You might get some back but not much. So think $15,000 as a ballpark.
March 26, 2017
Oh that's not too bad. I've already spoken to my health insurance and all my hospital fees will be covered, so fingers crossed they come through lol. Do you have health insurance? Do you mind if I ask you, if you want to book the surgery do you have to pay the full amount straight up or can you leave a deposit and go on a payment plan?
March 26, 2017
Yep I have private health but I haven't checked what I get back though. I know some insurers won't give any refund if it's cosmetic so we'll see. They definitely don't refund until after the procedure also.
They require $1000 deposit to secure a date and then the full amount is due 6 weeks before the date. Not sure about payment plans - but I'm sure you could pay something each week leading up (as long as it's all paid by the total amount due date).
March 27, 2017
Yeah mine is for a moderately deviated septum which is why my insurance said they would cover it so fingers crossed. Yeah as long as the whole amount isn't due tomorrow I'll be sweet lol
I'm nervous to see what he shows me tomorrow! I'll keep you posted :)

I'll let you girls know tomorrow as soon as I'm done :)
March 28, 2017
Hey girlies, so I had my appt today! I loved dr shahidi. He was so funny and he was super honest, he said if I didn't have a deviated septum he wouldn't recommend a nose job because he doesn't think my nose is that bad (but I hate my nose lol). The images he sketched looked so good! Just tying up a few things and Im definitely gonna book for mid July!
March 28, 2017
Exciting! Keep us updated :)
March 29, 2017
oh yay! What don't you like about your nose? He called my nose a "hook masculine nose" ha ha so he def thought I needed a nose job!
April 2, 2017
Did you end up booking? I booked mine last week for end of July!! Eeek!
April 3, 2017
Not yet, I have to organise work holidays and stuff which is so annoying! But at this stage it looks like early August! My birthday is end of August so I'm gonna be ugly and bruised for my birthday but ah well haha
Yay I'm so excited for you! What date officially? Are you happy with your images?
My nose is ugly. He didn't seem to think so but I hate it, it's so obtrusive. When I smile it goes over like a hook lol
April 5, 2017
Ps: do you have family down in Sydney or are you booking accommodation?
April 14, 2017
I'll be booking accommodation - probably on airbnb as I want a decent kitchen
March 16, 2017
That was super quick!! Good on you girl, can't wait to see your progress. Have my consult next week, so excited now :)

Day 3 - Worst by far

User Avatar
OFC90
So day 3 of recovery has by far been the worst day. The pain was quite substantial and after speaking with nurses from the hospital as well as Dr Shahidis office I decided to take the stronger pain medication I was prescribed to help me through the night...probably the WORST decision that I could have made! I had an adverse reaction to the Endone (which is apparently quite common, part of the reason why I am so angry with the situation) and became chronically ill. By "chronically" I mean that I could not keep anything down, fluids medication nothing. I was vomiting every 10 minutes or so for a period of 3 hours, I became so dehydrated that I couldn't even hold the bag to vomit into. I ended up getting admitted into hospital at 11pm and required a substantial amount of fluids to help me recover.
