I Looked Better Before This Treatment! - Charlottesville, VA

$1,400
I'm so upset that I had this treatment. I had 2 vials and was told by the dr the results would start showing in 2 weeks. I swelled up very badly for several weeks and required prednisone. I went in to see her last week and they took new photos. The BEFORE PICS ARE WAY BETTER. So depressing. Disgusted!

Kybella made my chin worse! Now I have to get surgery to repair it.
I want to preface this review with the fact that I knew that one round of kybella could produce very minimal results and maybe not any. I was willing to take the risk because if it produced even the tiniest result-I considered it worth it and if it didn't, I would be out 1400 but that was much less that actual lipo and would be the risk I take. It can't work for everyone! SO I went in for a consultation with Dr. Derdeyn to fix an issue that's bothered me since I was 15 years old. My weight has gone up and down, not much but it has never gotten rid of the chin. The chin always stayed. The Dr. assured me that it works and showed me a photo of herself after she did kybella and ultherapy. I was told the swelling would subside in 1-2 weeks. 1-2 weeks passed-the swelling was still there. The swelling lasted a very long time. It was ugly but I could handle it because I knew this was a side effect. The first month passed and then sometime around 6 weeks later, I knew the swelling should have subsided by then so I made a return visit to speak to the dr who did my procedure. They brought in the before and after photos as well. She looked at them and said ''I think it looks better, its a small improvement but it's better. I know you are unhappy with the results now but what if you see results 6 months from now-will you be happy then?''. It is very clear in the photos that my chin is worse. I left so unhappy and confused. Then after talking to people closest to me they urged me to call the office again and speak with a manager. I was referred to the head of the practice-Dr. Straaka. I was almost 8 weeks out and my mother and boyfriend agreed it was worse so I was eager to get into see her. She was very friendly and agreed that the after photos were worse. She said she did not know why the dr had told me that it looked better when she could see in the photos it was clearly worse. She offered me a round of cool sculpting or botox to offset the cost I had paid for the Kybella. I chose botox. I got a couple vials around my eyes. I am not sure how much but I was happy with the results. Dr. Straaka was very nice and since this experience I have returned for a facial and eye treatment(both great) but I am still so upset about this experience. I had a consultation with a plastic surgeon in Richmond last week and it will cost me $4500 to lipo my chin. The problem is the sagging skin the kybella caused though and I am not sure this will fix it. I want to warn others against Kybella. Unless you're rich and don't mind botched procedures and have the money to repair situations like this- DO NOT DO THIS. Kybella-you are a SHAM! Dr Derdeyn- I accept that some treatments don't work on everyone-that is to be expected but when a patient asks you if something is worse-don't lie! *also I have maintained the same weight since the beginning pics.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I felt very upset with my doctor because she told me Kybella would produce "the same results as Chin Lipo and would cost less money". She told me I would swell, and I would need two rounds. Well, two rounds made zero difference on me. I was swollen and droopy under the chin for months.

Wow thank you so much for this honest post. I'm getting my tax return shortly and was convinced I was going to try kybella but I'm having second thoughts again. I found someone who does it for $450 a vial which also seems too good to be true but what do I know. Whatever I end up doing thanks again

Be careful... not sure where you live but that does sound too good to be true. I had mine done with oversight of a Kybella rep and there are definitely risks and areas to avoid. If you injector is not marking the areas of the neck, face and chin to avoid and using the transfer guide (temporary tattoo) to inject... run!

hi - i am sorry you had this experience. looking at your pics i do see how you would not be happy, and the droop looks worse... it looks to me though like the kybella did get rid of some fat, and because of that your skin is drooping lower. Lipo won't fix sagging skin, and if you remove more fat with lipo that may make things worse yet again. Please be sure to consult thoroughly and see pics of people with similar age/situation before deciding whether to pursue lipo vs. a neck lift.... good luck

The plastic surgeon I met with(who is a top dr in my state) told me I did not need a neck lift. He also said I have good elasticity so I'm so confused now as my surgery is may 3rd. I do think he needs to look again at my chin. If the neck lipo makes things worse, I'll be so upset. Thx for commenting!

Also you really think the kyvella got rid of some fat because I can't see it in the pics. Where do you see it so I can look more closely?

scheduled my chin lipo and so excited!
I think depending on how you tilt your head, the pics can be deceiving. I wanted to post a few more pics from earlier this week to give me a more accurate picture of what my fat chin looks like.

Hi just read your review and I went through the exact same experience with a doctor in NYC. The kybella made my double chin worse and the doctor told me he saw an improvement after the kybella injection. My skin is now loose. Whenever I think about it, I get so upset. I spent $1300 that I'll never get back in addition to a bigger double chin.

hopefully it works, if not, I'm gonna try kybella. Also, for swelling, have you tried Arnica cream? It's a natural product that reduces swelling.
results are fabricated or outlandish lie.
