After impeccably drawing in my sparse eyebrows...

After impeccably drawing in my sparse eyebrows everyday for the last 25 years, I tried tattooing (ok at first, but the ink fades to pinky-peach) and consulting with alopecia specialists, before I came to the conclusion that a transplant was the only way to go. I found Dr. Dauer on Yelp! with excellent reviews. Sure enough, his demeanor is very reassuring and low-key yet confident, so after my consultation, I picked a date! I Ubered there and back on my own, which was perfect and easy (though I honestly don't remember much about the ride home). Arriving super early in the morning, having the entire office and staff all to myself to get started. I drew in my perfect brows for the last time, which Dr. Dauer fine-tuned just the slightest bit, and we were ready to get started. They use a simple combination of valium and novocaine to keep you comfortable. For me, having the donor strip taken from the back of my head was terribly painful but it is over quickly, and then the implanting itself didn't bother me. The nurses who do most of the implant work and separate out the best donor follicles were just wonderful; gentle, friendly, and explanatory. Since I color my hair, I had no idea how many gray hairs I had, so those were set off to the side as last resorts. Approximately 150-160 hairs per brow were implanted, all at an angle to encourage them to grow in flat. About 3 hours, then a lunchbreak for all of us, then the 2nd brow got done. No real pain to speak of, just tenderness. I followed their instructions to the letter, afraid to disturb even a single follicle. It was a long time before the dried blood spots gently worked their way off, and even longer before the back of my head healed completely. Then the initial hairs fall out, and I had the same sparse brows as before, which seemed like forever but it was actually maybe two months. Then the hairs grow in seemingly overnight, and voila! Full, natural looking brows. I am slightly obsessed with trimming my brow hairs because they do grow and grow; and I also sometimes sleep with mustache wax and medical tape over them to train the unruly few. Now I can swim, shower or workout and not feel naked without wearing any makeup. When I want to, I use just a tiny bit of powder now to fill them in a bit but it only takes a minute after spending atleast 10 minutes a day drawing my eyebrows in. Overall I feel so much more free and confident. Thank you, Dr. Dauer!
