Ruptured Implant with Capsular Contracture Surgeon, Portland, Oregon
I began experiencing pain and tightness in one breast, and my skin felt thicker on that side. I informed my GP and of the fact that I had implants (placed in 2008). She said that breasts change as women approach menopause (age 50). I questioned why only one breast would be affected. She said each side of our body different-which seems logical. The pain continued, and I was worried. During my mammogram, nothing unusual was detected. An ultrasound revealed that one of my implants had ruptured all the way around and that I had capsular contracture. This was concerning because I have silicone implants.
I met with Dr. Bartholomew, who was terrific. It took two visits and coordinating with insurance to finalize a plan. He removed the existing implants and much of the tissue surrounding them. During the same procedure, he placed new implants and essentially reconstructed my chest. Without me asking, he took the liberty of having my tissue tested to confirm there were no cancer cells (so proactive and nice). I can’t say the recovery was easy, but I’m grateful the ruptured implant and scar tissue are gone. The results are already outstanding (2 weeks post-op).
Dr. Bartholomew proved to be a patient, meticulous, knowledgeable, and decisive surgeon. He and his staff were superior to work with (so were Providence hospital services)! Thank you so much!
