Hospital and consultation excellent. Outcome of surgery awful. To say I have been distressed by this surgery is an understatement. I had a pleasing consultation with Mr Davidson. We agreed I'd had a good face lift approx 6 yrs ago. Now I would like to have the wrinkle at lower neck lifted. He said he could easily lift this and any laxity as I have a thin neck. But said he never and repeated never does a neck lift without a face/neck lift. I said to make he doesn't pull the skin too tight .He laughed and said, every.one says that. He said he would do a SMAS face/neck lift. I CLEARLY said that I didn't want anything that hadn't been tried and tested and done at least 100 times by him. He showed me where the stitching would go. Starting from temple, going around earlobe back up close to ear and into hair line. I thoroughly researched the SMAS face/neck lift as I never do anything on impulse. On the VERY MORNING OF SURGERY, he said that as I'd said not to pull my skin too tight across the cheeks he could do another procedure. I agreed forgetting for that moment that I never do anything on impulse.
I went to theatre with complete trust in him.
Afterwards I expected pain but nothing like this severe pain, jaw seized up etc. I saw Mr Davidson 4 times with 3 months intervals over next year due to pain swelling, unflattering chipmunk look etc . He then said my face and neck were good. I said I was dissatisfied and said I believe the problem arose when the stitching was taken ONLY 40mm from earlobe instead of going up to the temple. He quickly said he does this EXACT procedure once a week and I had agreed to it. He said he could do a minor adjustment on my neck under GA. This time I had time to think and cancelled as I no longer had faith in him.
A few weeks later I wrote a personal letter of complaint. He replied saying "With hindsight it would have been better to have taken the stitching up to the temple as he usually does. And lessons have been learnt". I replied saying that with hindsight and lessons being learnt doesn't help me. On the very morning of surgery you sprung on a different procedure leaving me no time to research this (Incidentally this is not in keeping with BAAPS guildlines ) And as the cheeks were not incorporated I now have a kind of pouch sags at side of cheeks and sagging across cheeks.
If I ever have the confidence to try to rectify this I would need to save a few thousand pounds for a full face/neck lift which is not realistic for me. Therefore I feel it would be fair for him to offer me some reimbursement.
Anyway all this is irrelevant, Mr Davidson may have done this procedure with good intentions, but it's the outcome that counts and I believe that no-one would be satisfied with this outcome.
