Hello everyone! I am finally getting the gastric sleeve procedure done on February 24, 2016 (in less than 3 weeks!!) Am I nervous? YES! However, I have one of the best bariatric surgeon in South Jersey. Dr. Mark Salcone of Lourdes Medical Associates in South Jersey is going to perform the procedure, so I am in good hands. Dr. Salcone also explained to me that with the gastric sleeve procedure, he will also repair my hiatal hernia! I am so excited and fired up to have this procedure done because it is going to get rid of my type 2 diabetes, severe obstructive sleep apnea, high blood pressure, severe osteoarthritis & high cholesterol.

Through my health insurance network, Horizon NJ Health. They have 5 bariatric surgeons in their network. However, they are all located in South Jersey. I live in Northern New Jersey.

Hi,
I am excited for you !
You did not mention your starting BMI? I had this procedure 4 years ago. I was pleased with my results, and have kept the weight off for 4 years now. However, I will cautioun you that the sleeve is only a tool to help restrict the amount you can eat at one time. It does not decide what and how many times per day you eat. You will probably lose weight pretty fast the first year, then it starts to slow way down, and it will be necessary for you to exercise and continue to make healthy diet choices. Try to join a support group and find an exercise you like that you can stick to. Keep doing it even if you dont lose any more weight. It will help you maintain your weight and provide other health benefits.
Good luck on your surgery and aftercare. If you have any questions please let me know,

txmom808: I forgot to mention the BMI. Thanks for reminding me. When I was 183 pounds, my BMI was 35.7. I am at 177 pounds at this time, so my BMI is 34.6 since preparing for the surgery. Total loss of 6 pounds.

Hello everyone! I start my liquid diet on February 10th to prepare my stomach for surgery. I found out that two ladies that goes to my Bible College have had gastric sleeve surgery & they are doing well. They will be supporting me on my weight loss journey. I have 4 sisters-in-Christ that have had the procedure & they are going to give me the support that I need. I will keep everyone posted.

Good luck! My surgery was Dec 2, 2015. Surgery was a piece of cake. I had no pain, except soreness from the 5 entry holes, and no gas pains! I'm on regular food now. I still eat too fast and get an uncomfortable feeling, but otherwise I'm good. I don't have any issues with foods or sweets. Many people vomit, but not me. I kind of wish I did, then it would be easy to say no to cookies, chocolates, etc. I've lost 36 lbs since surgery, 45 total. I'm now on a plateau. Haven't lost a pound in 3 weeks! I'll keep at it, eventually I'll lose more. You will do just fine. First month is tough, then gets easier, protein first, then veggies! No bread, pasta. I miss them, but I know that's why I'm here lol! Please post with updates!

Dear Elisafeliciano,
I am so very happy for you!!! First of all, your starting weight is not that bad. Hell, 177 is pretty good. I don't see your height. Whatever your BMI is, it can't be that bad. You are one of the lucky sleevers who will probably achieve your goal weight. (Mine was 150 # but I never got there. But, the muscle weighs more than the fat. And I have a lot of it since I work out.) Still, I remember when I was a size 6, about 23 years ago. LOL Everybody I worked with thought I was anorexic. (Not true, just ran a lot, and my metabolism was waaaay faster than it is now. I just want you to know that you are beautiful, and that no matter if you reach your goal weight or not, I think you will be so much healthier with the sleeve. I know I have been.
Also, keep in mind that some of the most beautiful women in Hollywood are a little bit rounder than the rest. Skinny women just look so pointy. lol. Men like curves, and they want a girl who can eat a steak with them. lol
So, just remember that on your journey. It's about being healthy, not about being skinny.
You're going to do GREAT!!!
