Best Doctor I Could've Asked For
This is a long review, but I hope that some readers will find the details helpful in understanding the liposuction/liposculputre process, and my experience with Dr. Paz. Upfront, everyone should know that every doctor is different, and every body is different. I provide general tips based on my experience, but I am not an expert. Please only take medical advice from your doctor.
My experience with Dr. Paz and his staff has been nothing short of wonderful. Dr. Paz and his team has been there for me before, during, and after the surgery. They have provided me with detailed answers to all my questions throughout this process, and still keep in touch with me to see how things are progressing.
I got to my recovery house on a Sunday night, and fasted until Monday morning. Monday at 7am I had a blood and urine test, along with an EKG, to make sure I was healthy and my levels were good enough for surgery. After the tests, I went for my Faja fitting (one is included in the cost of surgery), and purchased an additional Faja. I think its easiest to have two at a time so you can wear one and wash the other. I spent some time at the recovery house briefly, then went for my consult with Dr. Paz on Monday afternoon. After reading through and signing paperwork with Diana (she is THE BEST assistant and really helps put you at ease with everything) I finally met Dr. Paz. I hadn't met the doctor until this point, and when I did, I was very happy this was the doctor who would be operating on me. Dr. Paz is very gentle but focused. I found him to have this very calming energy, and was immediately relieved of a lot of my anxiety once I met with him. Things that I highly advise, for any doctor or procedure: (1) Know what you want; (2) Know where you want it; and (3) Be realistic. Having photos available to show Dr. Paz was very helpful (for both of us I think) in understanding what figure I was hoping for. After the consult, I went back to the recovery house. Surgery was first thing on Tuesday morning, so last meal was at 8pm, last glass of water was at 10pm. In the morning I took a regular shower, then a shower using special iodine soap. I went to the clinic, signed more paperwork, got into a dressing gown, and had an IV put into my wrist. Then Dr. Paz came in to take "before" photos of me, as well as mark me up for the surgery. He was very kind and professional, and put my nerves at ease for the procedure. Then he left to get ready for surgery, and I went into the OR, where a nurse wiped and sprayed me with [freezing!] iodine to clean me. Shout outs to the AWESOME nurse Angie and anesthesiologist Claudia for being warm friendly and kind during this process. My anesthesia was administered via epidural, but I was knocked out [due to the IV meds] before I felt anything. The next thing I remember was waking up from the procedure where nurses put on my compression garment for the first time. Dr. Paz checked in on me to make sure I was ok, which I thought was very kind. TIP: make sure to bring a Gatorade and a water for after the surgery - this will help re-hydrate you and get you up and moving a bit.Once the anesthesia had worn off a bit, I was allowed to go back to the recovery house [and eat!]. The next day, Dr. Paz sent his nurse (Marcella) to help me shower. It was really great that she came because I felt very dizzy in the first shower, and she helped me sit down and drink water. She took photos to show Dr. Paz how I was recovery so far, and took very detailed notes about my progress. This was really impressive to me, and seems like a practice that doctors in the US don't even do - it further solidified that Dr. Paz truly cares about his patients and his work. After showering, I went to my first lymphatic drainage massage. In my opinion, this is DEFINITELY the most painful part of the whole surgical experience. Nobody can truly prepare you for the kind of pain you will feel. The best example I've heard is that someone hit you with a baseball bat, and then aggressively massages that same spot to drain the fluid from it. Do not be afraid to cry during your massage - everyone does it at some point. TIP: Bring your phone/headphones and listen to music during your massage(s) to help distract you from the pain. Despite it hurting, the massages are necessary to reduce the swelling and help your body heal. The ladies who gave me my massages - Nisma and Claurita - were absolutely kind, loving, and wonderful humans. Two days after my surgery I went back for a post-op consult with Dr. Paz. He took a look at me to see how my body was healing/progressing, and was very happy with the progress and result(s) thus far. After, I asked him a lot of questions [I had a lot prepared], and he took the time to answer each one thoughtfully. His bedside manner is impeccable, really. I have had minimal aftercare, and am recovering really well in comparison to girls who went to other doctors. I HIGHLY recommend looking into Dr. Paz for whatever type of surgery you are considering. I really could not have asked for a better doctor for the first and only surgery I have ever had [for anything].
