Silicone removal update
Provider Review
I received silicone shots to the hips & buttocks in 2010 & again in 2012. I loved how I could get instant results, for a cheap price. Everything was fine, until February of 2016. That’s when I had my first bout with cellulitis of the left hip. I was hospitalized twice & on antibiotics countless times because of the injections. I started researching removal, & even went on a few consultations. I was so depressed & helpless. Everywhere I went, the pictures I was shown of patients after, made me so afraid. During my research, I stumbled across someone who has went to Dr. Diaz & had favorable results. I immediately WhatsApp’d him. We started chatting in Spring of 2017 & he advised me I would need to have the “open technique” surgery, which is where an incision is made across your upper buttocks to be able to remove the substance. I really didn’t care, because after seeing his incision, they are so thin & neat, they could easily be hidden. I was supposed to have surgery September of 2017, but due to some other health issues, I had to reschedule for February 14th 2018. He was very understanding & told me there was no problem with rescheduling, because my health was the top priority. I arrived in Cali, Colombia on 2/12/18. I stayed at Vital Care Recovery House (which is great btw). I was taken to have an MRI of the affected areas so that Dr. Diaz could review them the following day. On 2/13/18, I met with Dr. Diaz for my consultation along with my MRI results. He greeted me with a hug & a kiss. Honestly, I felt like I was conversing with a friend, not my Dr. he was very amicable & humble. Upon reviewing my MRI results, he advised me that I had some migration to my lower back, I also had some on the lower part of my butt & my hips. He said my case was very moderate & that I did not need the open technique. He explained to me that he would be able to remove the biopolymers endoscopically & with a special cannula. He also advised me that it was also possible to have a fat transfer as well. I was beyond happy! So, he discussed with me that he’d remove fat from my underarms, arms, abdomen, back & inner thighs & reconstruct my hips & buttocks. He also said he’d fix my “dog ear” from a previous tummy tuck I had. This was more than I had bargained for. I already had in my mind that I’d have the “open technique” & would have to return for reconstruction in several months. Although, the price went up by a few thousand dollars more, it was well worth it. I would’ve spent way more having to go back for reconstruction if I think of airline tickets, Recovery House etc. 2/14/18 was my surgery day. Surgery was scheduled for 12:30pm, it took 3 1/2 hours to complete. I was back at the Recovery House about an hour after. I felt fine right after & til this day, I’ve had a great recovery. The hip where I had the recurrent cellulitis is slowly softening up & getting back to normal. At my follow up appointment, Dr. Diaz advised me that he was able to remove 80% of the silicone & that I will not have any more issues. It is still only a few weeks since my surgery, but I have not had a flare up & I no longer feel tired all the time. I’m very happy with my results & couldn’t have picked a better Dr.
