I'd fancied a boob job for ages and booked this a couple of years ago, but couldn't go as I had a virus at the time of the original op. After my mixed experience with BeClinic for my lower blepharoplasty (see my other review) I was unsure, but they're very cheap and Dr P has a decent reputation for boob jobs so I took the risk.

I decided to go there and back in one day, originally I'd planned to go alone and stay in the hotel offered by the clinic, but when I rescheduled the op a friend offered to accompany me. I have to say I'm very grateful that he did, mainly for moral support and distraction during the journey (from London) and longish periods of waiting around. Having said that, I do think it would be possible to go it alone, but you'd have to be mentally strong enough to deal with feeling ropey/nervous/in pain in a foreign place. Also - the clinic wouldn't let you travel back the same day alone because you've had a general anaesthetic, you'd need the hotel option.

The clinic were understanding of my need to get there and back, and told me which Eurostar I should come and go on. They also kindly scheduled my surgery at midday to accommodate this.

When I arrived, I completed the paperwork, paid and we were shown to my room which was small but clean and modern, with a wardrobe and safe. Then it was a matter of waiting - I think they are fairly flexible on times because I recall a lot of waiting the first time - around 1pm Dr P came in and looked at my photos, explained the procedure and drew on my breasts to mark the incision. We had a discussion re size of implant, having read a lot of reviews I know it's pretty pointless to insist on a certain size, as the surgeon will go for what suits your frame, so I didn't have any preconceived ideas. We agreed between 400-500cc.

Then there was another half hour or so wait and then the nurse and anaesthetist came and introduced themselves and we went through to the theatre. The nurse in particular was lovely, stroking my arm and really making sure I was OK. Then the drugs went in, I felt an icy tingle in my feet and BOOM! Lights out!

I woke in my room less than an hour later, with the surgical bra on. I felt fine and quite chipper. Me and my friend chatted for a while and I tried to doze but didn't feel sleepy. I was surprised by how lucid I felt considering I'd just had a general. I asked for water (I'd been fasting since the previous night) but she said it would make me sick, and to wait a bit.

After about an hour, I started to feel some pain so rang for the nurse and she gave me a painkiller and some water. About half an hour later it began to work, but didn't take the edge off that much and I was still in a moderate amount of pain - probably about a 7/10. Moving was pretty much impossible, as I couldn't raise my arms or take any weight on them so I was trying to shuffle around the bed on my bum to get comfy!

The nurses popped in and out, organising me to leave (I had booked the car back to Brussels Midi for the 7.50pm Eurostar). We left the clinic around 6pm with my drug bag and full instructions for aftercare. Dr Plovier and the nurses had already run through these with me, and given me plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

We arrived at the Eurostar (with me walking at a snails pace and holding myself like a paralysed Zombie) in time to get some food, there's a veggie juice bar and I had a soup and juice which I think was just what my body needed. I took another painkiller as was in quite bad pain and was dreading the journey back to London. However, I took a paracetamol and it helped so much, the journey was fine. At the other end I'd planned to get a cab, but I felt so well that we decided to hop on a bus instead.

I was really grateful to have my friend there, he helped me dress after the op (it was a mistake wearing a t-shirt - a front opening jumper or hoodie would have been better) and, crucially, carried my bag etc which I would have struggled with.

I'm writing this in bed on the morning of day 2, and again, having had the painkillers I feel fine with pain about 3/10 as long as I sit still. I'm finding the pain is fine on sitting upright or standing, but very painful moving in between the two, so getting in and out of bed is a challenge, and bending or reaching are also very hard.

I slept OK, woke three times for the loo which is not unusual for me! And aside from the difficulties getting there I managed to get back to sleep OK.

More to come as my recovery progresses.

Day 2 post op - very little pain!

Just a quick update. I've felt surprisingly little pain today and have kept reminding myself to take it easy! Pain worse this evening on coming to bed, lying seems to be the most awkward position atm. I get to remove the bra for a quick shower tomorrow and finally see my boobs, can't wait!

48 Hours in and time for the big reveal!

I was desperate to have a look and today I was finally allowed to remove the surgical bra for a quick wash.

My boobs are obviously very swollen and solid still but I think they'll look good eventually...

Dr Plovier has a very brusque and some might say terrifying bedside manner! He is so no-nonsense it can be a little intimidating (as I am not easily intimidated!) at first. However he is perfectly friendly and happy to answer any questions.
