A Nightmare Both During and After Surgery
I had a brow lift and cheek lift with Dr. Hakan Avci, and unfortunately this was one of the worst medical experiences I’ve ever had.
From the beginning, I felt like I was treated with very little compassion. I traveled to Turkey alone for surgery and was extremely anxious before the procedure. I remember being in tears and asking if I could quickly call my mom before being taken into the operating room. I was told no, even though I was only steps away. That moment made me feel completely unsupported and set the tone for the rest of my experience.
The nursing staff were consistently rude and dismissive toward me throughout my stay. There was one staff member who was kind, but overall I did not feel cared for or respected as a patient.
The biggest issue came after surgery. One side of my brow never healed properly. I had an open wound for approximately a year. During that time, I was repeatedly reassured that everything was fine and that it would eventually heal.
After returning to the United States, the area became infected and I ultimately had to undergo surgery to have the infected suture removed. My treating surgeons told me that once they opened the area, they found a very large knot in the suture. They explained that, in their opinion, the knot was too large for the tissue to heal around properly and that this was likely why the wound had never healed. They also told me they did not believe it would have healed on its own.
The treatment and corrective care have now cost me more than the original brow lift itself. I have also been warned that because the infected suture had to be removed, there is now a possibility my brows could heal unevenly, meaning I may ultimately need another corrective brow lift.
To make matters worse, videos of me were posted online by the practice without my consent, which I found completely unacceptable.
I understand that every surgery carries risks, and complications can happen with any surgeon. My disappointment comes from how I was treated throughout the process, how my concerns were handled, and the financial, physical, and emotional consequences I’ve been left to deal with afterward.
Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend this practice.
