Ive Been Using Retin a for 4 Months. Bronx, NY

Update March 20, 2016

Thank you everyone for all the advice. I stopped using retin a in February as I noticed I started to get slight scarring and not PIH scarring but like mild ice pick scars. I was devastated and blamed the retin a. I called my doctor up crying, and all he told me was to stop using it. My next appointment wasn't for another few weeks so I began to use what I had left of clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide from previous times. When my appointment came he recommended I continue with retin a but the thing is he never told me how to use it in the first place and he doesn't tell me what kind of cleanser I should use or anything. He just prescribes me stuff and tells me to use it. I do the research on my own. I've been using retin a for a week now the way I should've used it when I first started months ago. Hopefully I'll see results. I'm currently just using retin a cream, the lowest dose, clindamycin lotion, simple foaming cleanser and simple spf mositurizer.

Hi there, here is some information about Retin-A that you may find helpful:

7 Commonly Asked Questions About Retin-A

Also, check-in here to meet others who are also using Retin-A.

Try adapalene .1% (differing is brand) it's better for acne. Use the tiniest bit, similar to the amount u would use with retin a! Also: ask your doctor to prescribe you clindamycin GEL. The lotion is more likely to be an issue as far as clogging your skin. Use MILD cleanser like cetaphil. Are you on birth control at all? Yasmin cleared me up ... My skin is perfect now... It was awful before and tormented my entire life...I started using differin and clindamycin gel and yasminone year ago... And today my skin is perfect. Please try this it will work!!!!!

Clindamycin gel did wonders for my son's skin -- really great stuff!

Please read my comment above. Panothetic acid clears most peoples faces right up. It's a pill. Reviews here: https://www.amazon.com/Pure-Science-Pantothenic-Acid-Vitamin/dp/B01BM8IURS/ref=sr_1_27_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1469730042&sr=1-27&keywords=pantothenic+acid
I tried this, didnt help me.
I've used retin-a for about a week now and it's been clearing up my face. It does say you should break out when first using it, due to it cleaning out toxins and what not. Then you should start shedding skin and the new skin underneath should be pink and sensetive. When using I use a gentle cleanser (Cetaphil) wait 20 min. use a pea size amount of retin-a all over, then wait 30 min. to moisturize (CeraVe). In the morning I do the same thing except I use benzoyl peroxide instead of retin-a and after moisturizing, I use sunscreen(Neutrogena) with an spf of 30. It is extremely important to wear sunscreen, since the skin is sensitive to sunlight. Hope this can help! (Retin-A - .025%)

Hey guys so I'm new to this but I just wanted to...

Hey guys so I'm new to this but I just wanted to post to see if anyone has went or is going through what I'm going through and can give me some advice. I broke out for the first time ever in 7th grade when I first got my period. Ever since then it hasn't stopped. I've been scarring since 9th grade. I went to a a couple of derms but the one that I'm currently seeing is the first to prescribe me retin a .025% I've used antibiotics and benzoyl peroxide in the past without any improvement. But I've been using retin a for 4 months and I have yet to see results. I've been so insecure I hate even going outside because I don't want people to look at my face. I just don't know if I should get a stronger prescription of retin a or if I should wait a few more months or if my cleanser or moisturizer has anything to do with it. By the way I use simple foaming wash as a cleanser and I use aveeno spf 30 for a moisturizer during the day and ponds night cream after I apply my retin a, I have extremely oily skin by the way and I break out pretty much any where a pimple can come out. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Hi there, sorry to hear that you're struggling with acne and that it's left you feeling so insecure. I have been through the acne battle as well, and my son is currently going through it --thankfully his isn't as bad as mine was.

What works for him is a Clindalin Gel, it clears his skin up so fast. It may be something you could ask your doctor about.

Keep us posted.

I've suffered with this as well. So I'm going to give you a gift that many beautiful women in my life tried to tell me but I didn't listen until recently. Drink Sole water (recipe link below) every morning. Just get an old Nescafé glass jar with plastic lid mix it up and keep it in your bathroom with a bottle of filtered water and drink it as soon as you get up before you put anything else in your tummy. After your morning routine squeeze half a lemon in water and take a turmeric capsule. I have had adult acne for years (I'm 44) and suddenly it stopped after starting the Sole water then lemon with turmeric. Now I'm about to start Retin A to deal with the scarring that is left behind. I'll let you know how it goes. http://wellnessmama.com/12158/make-sole/

That is so interesting whjert, thank you for sharing the Sole water, I'm going to try that.

As it says in the link...the Pink Himalayan Sea Salt has 84 minerals and when you drink a glass of water with 1tsp or 1tbsp your empty tummy immediately absorbs all those minerals and it is great for all kinds of things. The water should taste like salt water/the ocean. If it is REALLY salty add a bit more water. It has totally changed my life.
Also, a great foundation is BareMinerals Complexion Rescue. It is awesome!!! Go get colour matched and you will love this product. Apply on clean dry skin, it's a moisturiser as well.
I have discoloration on my skin and just started to use retinA 0.025%
Thanks
Hey gal- I had acne more of my life than not (pretty sad..got cystic acne around 10 years of age and continued into my 30's). Accutane worked like a dream for my little sister and I. I never got to finish my regimen but my sister did and she's had just minor break outs since. I must warn you though that there are some pretty serious side effects that are possibilities. My daughter had a small cystic acne issue but birth control combined with benzoyl peroxide treatment in the morning with retin-a at night did the trick for her (she's 16). As for me (I'm 36), I currently use Aczone twice daily...works better than any topical I've ever used. It treats the pimples that are already present. The retin-a will keep your pores purged of skin cells, oil ect. via sluffing. Ask your derm about Aczone and if your really over it and at your wits end..Accutane.
Accutane is one serious medicine. But it works. My son had terrible acne as a teen. At 15 he was put on Accutane for 3 months. It was a tough 3 months but he now has beautiful skin and has been acne free since. He is now 24. Best wishes to all of you struggling with acne.
