Second Degree Burns from BBL

In December 2024, I underwent a BBL (broadband light) treatment on both my face and chest, which unfortunately resulted in severe burns on my chest and hypopigmentation. It was my second time getting a BBL on my face, but my first time on my chest. I had just relocated to the Nashville area and this was my first visit to this provider.

The procedure was much more painful than my first BBL, which immediately raised some red flags. In hindsight, I should have trusted my instincts and stopped the treatment halfway. I voiced my concerns during the procedure, but was reassured that the pain was "normal." However, on the drive home, the pain on my chest became excruciating, almost as if someone was holding a blowtorch to my skin. The pain persisted for about four hours, and I spent the rest of the day icing the area, which provided a bit of relief.

The next morning, I woke up to tiny blisters all over my chest, and that's when I really started to panic. I was able to see a dermatologist (different provider) the next day, who immediately prescribed two different prescription creams to treat the burns.

Now, months later, I’m left with hypopigmentation on my chest. While the area has healed, I’ll need to undergo a series of chemical peels and light lasers to address the white patches. The dermatologist has also advised me to avoid any sun exposure on that area for the next year, so I’m investing in rash guard shirts for the beach.

If anyone has had a similar experience, I’d love to hear from you. Did anything help with your hypopigmentation? Were you able to restore your pigment to its original state?
