I didn't ever seriously consider LASIK due to the cost - I'd rather have spent the money on travel, as contact lenses weren't too much trouble for me (I hated wearing glasses though), however when my husband offered to pay I jumped at the opportunity.

Today is Day 8 after LASIK. Everything is going well. I won't go through the procedure as there are plenty of stories to be found at the process. I think my procedure was all done in 10 minutes, even the laser part only seemed like about 5 seconds each eye - (I've read it can take up to 30 seconds). My procedure was much better than I expected and it's not hard to keep still and you don't feel anything (except putting the suction on was uncomfortable). You can actually SEE them brushing the flap back over your eye once the laser is finished ! Weird, but you don't feel it. After surgery is was understandably a bit blurry, but better than without glasses! Left eye had red bruises from the suction. I went straight home (very light sensitive) took my sleeping tablet and extra pain medication (ibuprofen with codeine on top of the paracetamol and codeine they gave me as I was uncomfortable) and went to bed as instructed. I woke 2 hours later with extreme pain and wanted to scratch my eyes out (they had protective covers on them). I could barely open them with the pain and the light was unbearable. Luckily we had very strong painkiller at home which I took with 2 more sleeping tablets.

I woke in the middle of the night and the strong pain had passed. (The Dr and nurse the next day said this was very uncommon to have bad pain, but "there's always one". None of my friends that have had LASIK experienced this.

DAY 2
I woke the next day with a gritty scratchy feeling, which I did expect. Just kept topping up with tears all day. I could see from the morning. Amazing! Sight was hazy (like everything was slightly foggy) and it would randomly go blurry which I also expected. Had a checkup 7:30am and everything looking fine.
DAY 3
Woke up with very red and aching eyes and used a painkiller. Scratchy feeling gone.I took the day off work so I didn't need to look at a computer screen. Still slightly hazy.
DAY 4
First time driving at night. Whoa, the halos at night are bad. It feels like you need your glasses on but even squinting doesn't make the halos go away. I realised that I could see the road/cars etc clearly, but all the traffic lights, head lights, street lights etc made heaps of halos that seemed to make it hard to see. I didn't feel safe driving. Wrote this down to talk to the surgery about.
DAY 8 (today)
Had my first week check up today. Everything is looking very good, flap healing very well (Dr found it hard to find!) Most haziness has gone. Vision good, although sometimes not extremely sharp. No sign of swelling or infection.20/20 vision. Left eye -0.25 at the moment which is apparently because I have dry eyes from over-wearing my contact lenses and I have blood vessels growing on the cornea to get more oxygen. Using tears it will take 6 months to improve this. I didn't realise, the tears provide nutrition for the eye! If I keep up the tears my vision will get clearer. The opthamologist spent 30 minutes with me to explain my brain needs to get used to my new vision and muscles now working differently, and cells getting new signals (my eyes have felt a bit strained). This is also one reason why we get halos at night - brain needs to adjust, it can be quick or take longer, depends on each person.

The LASIK surgery I went to, Laser Sight in Brisbane Australia, was EXCELLENT. It was probably more pricy than other places, but I didn't even get other quotes. My sister in law and husband used this surgery with great results and service. I later found out 2 friends has also had successful LASIK there. All Doctors are experienced opthamologists (it's an unregulated industry - do your homework!!!). My doctor regularly turns away patients that aren't suitable. They layed out the risks and answered my whole page of questions. Not one person in Australia has lost their eyesight from LASIK I asked if he had patients that regretted the surgery? He said yes, but only due to dry eyes, not due to being unhappy with their vision results.

My opthamologist spent 30 minutes with me today going over "my new eyes", what to expect, how to improve upon my 20/20 vision. The surgery charges you once, that includes all follow ups for a year, all medications. Lifetime guarantee of the procedure you have (if mine needs topping up for myopia it will not cost me anything). I have been vigilent with my eyedrop regime, not wearing eye makeup, not rubbing my eyes etc, and each day that passes my vision improves (in terms of getting clearer and less hazy).

I spent a lot of time researching risks and reviews and went ahead well informed. If you are considering LASIK, research will set your expectations. I am VERY happy so far.

I'll post an update in a few months.

EXCELLENT surgery centre. EXCELLENT service by all staff. Doctor very experienced and gave me realistic expectations and ensured I was a suitable candidate (no just taking money off me). GREAT follow up. NO complications. I Highly recommend Laser Sight. Even their wait times are good. I'll give them 4/5 but each appointment was exactly on time except the first opthamologist consultation (but only about 15 mins late).
