Today I bit the bullet and decided to see a dermatologist that I was referred to by my local GP. Despite the side affects of Accutane, I took the next step! I am 22 and have had acne for ever since I can remember. After each birth of my two children, my skin would get worse each time. So to anyone who would like to follow my journey or are popping in to see the outcome/results, stay tuned :) I will update regularly with photos and anything that has been going on!
So in saying that today was the first step I took - my dermatologist cost me $205 (medicare will cover about $75 of that). In that appointment my dermo went through with me the risks and signs to look out for. I am having to get a blood test which I will be doing tomorrow to determine my liver function results and once I have the all clear I will be starting!!
I have been prescribed 'Oratane' which is also known as Accutane and I will be starting on 20mg one tablet a day. I have also been prescribed E-Mycin to control that flare up in the beginning and will be taken for about 3-4 weeks (whenever the tables run out)
My dermo wants me to go back in 4 weeks to check my progress and determine if I need to up my dose, keep it the same or lower it.
My dermo recommended me to use cetaphil gentle cleanser and cetaphil lotion.
I am very excited to start this journey so feel free to follow it with me :) I hope I can help answer some questions along the way as I get further in :)
