Like the majority of people who choose to have a Rhinoplasty, it was something I wanted to do from my late teens. I'm 48 now so I waited a while! I never liked my nose, too long and hooked at the end. I thought as I aged it would bother me less but to be honest the opposite is true. Late last year after another day wearing my 'insecurity' baseball cap I said to my wife 'I think I'll get a nose job'. She was totally supportive (it didn't bother her but she was aware of the negative affect it had on my general well being.
I spent the next 2 weeks scouring the internet for plastic surgeons in Brisbane, read a ton of reviews, pro's and cons and joined this site. I found a very highly rated surgeon and booked an appointment in October. I was a bag of nerves when I went to see the doctor, but I wrote a list and did my best to explain what i wanted changed and why I wanted. The Doctor was lovely, softly spoken, a great listener and he took time to explain what he proposed and what the outcome would be like. He also identified a breathing issue and said he could correct this. I went home, thought about things for a few days and book the surgery for 16 October 2018.
Work was really busy up until the Christmas holidays so time flew. I have a fairly large family too so Christmas flew by and before I new it the day before surgery came. I hadn't been that nervous up to this point but now the nerves and anxiety came in waves. I didn't sleep at all that night.
My surgery was book for 8am at Pacific Day Surgery in The Valley. My wife and kids dropped me off early (630am) and I sat and waited for the surgery to open. It was a beautiful morning so I didn't mind the wait. At 650am the receptionist came, had a friendly chat with me and gave me some forms to fill in. At 7:05am the nurse came in and took me through, she was lovely. The nurse calmed my nerves and talked me through the procedure. She did my pre-op checks (blood pressure was sky high!) and gave me the surgery clothes to change in to. She then took me through to the waiting area and onto the bed. I watched TV and at 7:35am the Doctor came and saw me and explained what he was going to do and drew a picture. At 7:45am the Anesthetist came to see me and explained what he was going to do. He said I will probably have a sore throat after the surgery due to the breathing tube.
10 mins later he returned and wheeled me into theatre. He inserted the catheter and chatted away to me. What seemed like the next minute, I woke up in recovery. It was about 11:15am.
I was a little groggy, zero pain and a mild sore throat. I remember the Doctor checking me but he didn't hang about (I wanted to ask him how it went!). I laid watching TV for an hour and a nurse brought me some water. I came out of my malaise fairly quickly and the nurse asked me to dress back into my own clothes. The nurse them walked me to the waiting area and I watched TV until my family picked me up around 1:45pm.
The bruising and swelling started to appear pretty much straight away. Not too bad at all. Mainly around the corners of my eyes with a little underneath. Took my antibiotics and drank as much water as possible. Used an ice pack (peas) on my forehead and eyes every hour for 15 mins. Still no pain. The worst part is definitely the blocked nose and feeling of total fullness. Breathing through the mouth isn't that bad though and I used lip balm. I had a veg and fruit smoothy. Sleeping in a recliner downstairs. Fell asleep around 1am and woke up at 3am really thirsty. Back to sleep and woke up again at 6am.
DAY2
Swelling doesn't seem to have gotten any worse.

Day 2, 3 and 4
clivebJanuary 19, 2018
No pain but lots of pressure from the swelling, particularly bad around my eyes and the very top of my nose. Bruising on eyelids and cheeks.
Drinking lots of water. Don't have much of an appetite but I have had some soft foods and veg/fruit smoothies.
Worst thing today was the sensation that I wanted to sneeze a few times (I didn't!) and also a really itchy/sore left eye.
A nurse from the clinic called me to see how I was doing and schedule my next appointment. Next Tuesday I get the stitches/splints removed and the cast taken off.
Day3
Took some paracetamol last night to help me sleep as I felt a lot of fullness in my face. I had a relatively good sleep (woke every 2 to 3 hours) and when I woke at 6am I had the worst headache I have ever experienced in my life. Felt like the worst hangover headache with feeling sick in my stomach but much worse. This lasted to midday and then I was able to have something to eat.
I had a shower and felt much better. Spent the rest of the day watching TV and sleeping.
Day 4
Crappy sleep. I'm over not being able to breath through my nose and having to sleep upright on my back but I don't want to do any harm to my recovery so I have to keep going. Apart from tiredness I feel good today. Most of the swelling has gone down and the bruising around my eyes and cheeks has started to turn yellow. Still have sore eyes. I cleaned up some of the muck around the bottom of my nose and lightly washed my face. Managed to do a small bowel movement which I was really happy about. I have been eating lots of fibre to try and avoid getting clogged up. I also walked around the house for 15 minutes as the start of some light exercise that I'll increase over the coming days.
Nothing much else for the rest of today. Just rest and drink lots of water.

Day 5

Very little swelling now and the bruising has reduced greatly. No issues at all, just fed up with the blocked nose.
BTW- my procedure was for a hump reduction and tip rotation.
Next update will be after the cast and splint removal on Tuesday.
