Dissatisfied - 33 Year Old Primary Rhinoplasty and then Secondary with Dr Andrew Broadhurst

Dr Broadhurst undertook my primary rhinoplasty in July 2014. I initially went in as from the front view I had a bump on my left side of the bridge of my nose which had always bothered me and I wanted it removed. Dr Broadhurst felt that I had other irregularities about my nose which could be improved upon if he was going to perform an open rhinoplasty on me - namely - lengthen the nose and lower the tip, create a more scooped appearance to the profile and even out the nostrils. I thought that as he was the expert I'd leave it with him. Big mistake. Wish I'd been way more specific than just bringing in some pictures of noses I liked and actually got him to do a morph so we were on the same page with how I wanted my nose to look. At least that would have made me feel like I did all I could to reduce the chances of a botched job. Anyway I felt pretty confident that he would do a good job as he was pleasant in my consultations and had a very relaxed confident manner. The before and afters he showed me looked great too. Anyway I had my operation in November 2014. It all seemed to go fine until I got home and saw my nostrils (see pictures). I hoped it was just a swelling and cast thing but as you can see from when the cast came off my nostrils were very very uneven (my left almost closed) and I had a large bump on my right side of my nose. I raised my fears with Dr Broadhurst but was told this could be swelling to wait patiently. Over time the appearance did not improve (which I think Dr Broadhurst knew). When I saw him he claimed not to know what was causing the irregularities. Any way the pictures are up so you can make you own assessments.
After a year passed Dr Broadhurst agreed that the outcome of his surgery was less than ideal and said he would perform a revision rhinoplasty for free. I still had to pay hospital, anaesthetic fees etc. I wasn’t sure if I should go a head with the revision with Dr Boradhurst after the less than pleasing primary rhinoplasty he performed but I felt desperate for an even nose and normal looking nostrils. So the revision rhinoplasty was performed in November 2015. Straight after surgery I could see my nostrils were much more even and it definitely an improvement, however I’m still not happy. My nostrils are still more uneven than before and I have a lot of nostril show on my right side in comparison to the left. I also have a much lower columnella and a bump on the bridge. I’ll put up pictures for you to make your own judgements.
Any way I just wish I’d left my original nose as it was or at least not gone to Dr Broadhurst. I will be looking for a skilled revision rhinoplasty surgeon in the UK as I don’t want to risk another disappointing outcome in Australia.
I’d be interested to get others feedback and opinions on my outcome and also any others who have had operations with Dr Broadhurst.
I've recently booked a consultation with Dr Lucion Ion in the UK in December. I've read really good things about him and I'm hoping he'll be able to offer me some solutions.

Sorry to hear about your rough journey. I'm in the same boat. Going to need a second revision. Had my revision with a well known surgeon named Andrew Frankel in California and it just left me utterly devastated. All the best to you.

Hi. It seems like there quite a few people out there who have had disappointing surgeries. I was naive in thinking Dr Broadhurst knew what he was doing and was a skilled surgeon. I guess I've learnt a lot from this and will definitely be doing my research next time - I'm hoping Dr Ion can fix my botched nose.

Hi FrankenNose. I was watching a youtube video where your name was mentioned by a female patient who underwent a revision rhino with Dr Ion in London. In addition to her revision rhino she also had a lip lift to reattach mouth muscles but from the inside and not externally. She said that whatever Dr Frankel did to her nose made her upper lip drop and that Dr Frankel did something similar to you? I just wondered if you have revision surgery booked with Dr Ion as I have mine booked with him in December and I'm wondering if I should also get the internal upper lip lift as my upper lip changed after my primary rhinoplasty. Thanks

Lucion Ion is the only one I would trust to fix this. Do you mind letting me know how long it takes to get a consultation with him and how you went about it from Australia. Thank you.

Hi. I corresponded via email with Dr Ion's staff and they arranged a face to face consultation with him. He doesn't do skype consults. You have to book consultations 3 months in advance.

After my two disappointing rhinoplasties in Australia with Dr Broadhurst I'm not willing to undertake surgery in Australia again and have read lots of good things about Dr Lucion Ion. Fingers crossed he thinks he can rectify the appearance of my nose. Luckily my family all live in the UK so I can stay with them while I'm recovering. The worse part of this whole experience has been the psychological side as I see my nose was fine before and now I have a nose that looks so much worse.

I'm hearing, you. I have also had several rhinoplasty and revision procedures in Brisbane which have resulted in my nose looking worse than it was before I had the procedures ....never again. I have learned my lesson and am also considering Ion as I have family in the UK too.

Seems like Brisbane is not the place to get a rhinoplasty surgery done. Are you looking to book an appointment Dr Ion soon?
May 30, 2017
Agree! I hoping to go to the UK end of the year and will schedule in a consult with Dr Ion then. How about you?
May 31, 2017
Oh good luck :) I have my consultation booked for December. I'm hoping he'll be able to make my nose look nice again. Do you mind me asking which doctor you saw in Brisbane?

I will send you a message.

may want to check out Dr David Caminer in East Sydney. He is good and does revision rhino's in Australia. Dr Jeremy Hunt may also be an option.

Oh great and thanks for the advice - I'll look into them both. You're the first person to actually recommend a surgeon to me. I have a skype consult with Dr Andrew Greensmith in Melbourne in November and a face to face consult with Dr Ion in December in London. I'm keen to chat with a couple of skilled revision rhinoplasty surgeons to see if they can create a nice nose from the not so satisfying previous rhinoplasties I've had. Can you PM me some before and after pics please? I assume you went with Dr Caminer for your final operation?

I'm sorry for your bad experience with this doctor. I'm going through the same thing. I hope you will find the right doctor to fix your issues. Maybe Dr Ion !
Wish you the best :)

Consultation with Dr Lucian Ion - 20th December 2017

Pommie01
So I had my long awaited consultation with Dr Ion on 20th December at his offices on Harley Street in London. He was just as pleasant as everyone said he is and took the time to listen to my concerns as well as created my morphs so we could agree on a suitable outcome for my nose. We agreed that the nostril rims need to be lowered, the columella raised the the bridge straightened both from the from and side views. I haven't actually booked my surgery yet but I'm thinking of December 2018, although I have another consultation with Dr Ion in May via Skype. I'll keep you posted once I book. Let me know what you all think of the morphs.

The morphs seem somewhat conservative, which is a good thing. I like how Dr. Ion isn't trying to overly de-rotate your nose. Anyway, good luck with your surgery!

Good luck with your surgery. Please do share and I hope the outcome is what you want with a correction of the poor revision that was done. You are still a handsome man but the revision had a poor outcome.

Good luck with everything!! I hope it all goes well!
