Breast Reduction with Dr. Wakelin

I had been dealing with shoulder pain for years and after various specialists, PT, dry needling, massages, etc. I asked if it could possibly be due to my G sized breasts on my 5'2" frame. Finally, my spine doctor agreed it could be the issue. Dr. Wakelin had already performed a tummy tuck during my hysterectomy, so I was comfortable returning to him. The consultation went well, and I explained my issue. He took measurements and said I was a great candidate. Of course, my insurance didn’t agree as their “height/weight/how much to remove” scale is very severe, and they denied my pre-authorization. Kiersten (his care coordinator) helped me battle with them for 6 months. Eventually I knew that it would be another year before I got to the peer review, so I decided to just pay out of pocket and fight with insurance after the procedure. Day of surgery was great. Dr. Wakelin came in and did his drawings and confirmed the size I wanted to be. The nurse in recovery was awesome and kept checking my pain levels and finally got them leveled out. The pain wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, everything felt very sensitive. I saw him the next day for the post op, and everything looked great. They changed out my dressing and gave me my orders for the next 6 weeks. I also had lateral chest lipo done as well and that is worse than the reduction. The most difficult part for me at first was sleeping as I’m not a back sleeper and I was uncomfortable. By a week and a half, I didn’t even need Advil during the day, just something to help at night. I’m still very swollen where the lipo was performed but that is to be expected. I’m a couple of days from the 3-week mark where I can lift and raise my arms again and I feel like I will be ready. Just need to be patient and wait for the final results. However, the shoulder and back pain are gone which is what I was most concerned about. I can’t wait to go back to exercising and shopping and be so much more comfortable!
