Great Support and Great Result Even During Covid
I set up my first consultation with Dr. Margoles in November of 2019 by calling her office in Greenwich and speaking to her office assistant Landon. Landon is wonderful, very professional, and super communicative - I got to become extremely familiar with him over the numerous calls I was always happy to receive from him. The office isn't the easiest to find the first time but inside it's extremely clean and calming. One of the first things I noticed were the numerous degrees in Dr. Margoles' office including her time at Harvard and extensive time at other institutions where she learned how to be a great surgeon before I even know how to read! She's extremely professional, knew exactly how to address every question and concern I had, and was supportive right from the beginning. She has a LARGE book of before and after pictures of past breast reductions that she has done and I was extremely impressed. I was very comfortable with her during our first examination, when we were actually taking my before pictures, and trusted that she and her team were going to not be able to help me get it covered through my insurance but that I would have great results. I paid $200 that first meeting and received frequent updates over the next few months.
A couple of months later we got a denial from my insurance and Dr. Margoles immediately let me know that she would be willing to do a "peer-to-peer" meeting . She convinced my insurance to only require a new letter from chiropractor in addition to the one I got from my dermatologist. And it worked! Unfortunately, that approval happened about a month before Covid really hit the US and I got a call from Landon letting me know that we would have to wait until elective surgeries were going forward in the local hospitals again.
Once surgeries started going forward again in June we scheduled for surgery in July and the pre-surgery consultation about a week before. (I also had to schedule a covid test 2 days before the surgery). She, again, answered all of my questions and I got a list of 2 prescriptions to get filled as well as several printouts for aftercare and location of the hospital with a recommendation for a bra to buy post surgery. I will say that that bra ended up being a little too uncomfortable for the 3 days of just recovering in bed but it will be great for a new supportive sports bra. She does also provide a post-surgery bra for her patients and gave me a new one at a follow up appointment once most of my swelling went down as well.
The day of surgery went very smoothly! After some basic medical screening and an insertion of the IV, Dr. Margoles came in, marked me up, and I made to sure re-iterate that, for my preferences, I'd rather have us go too small than too big. I also suggest bringing in a before and after picture of someone with your body type and ideal results just to make sure you're on the same page. I got escorted in and was greeted outside of the theatre by one of her assistants (who was so sweet, in fact, the entire staff that I interacted with were so warm and a pleasure to be around) before being brought in, laid on the bed, and quickly put under. When I woke up I was definitely out of it and eager to go home but I was comfortable and informed that my boyfriend had already been informed that he could come get me. (FYI, I have only had one other minor surgery and do pretty well with anesthesia). I was given a few snacks with juice, taken to the bathroom, given something for a little nausea I had 10 minutes before leaving, and wheeled out to the entrance to leave. I was already thrilled with my results! Dr. Margoles unexpectedly called me that night to make sure I was doing well, which was nice. She warned me of the swelling that would happen over the next few days and gave me a few other tips for a more comfortable recovery.
I had very few issues as I was recovering and she even let me do facetime appointments with her when I had concerns. I'm not particularly far into healing yet but I'm still thrilled. My results are full but a clear and significant difference. My scars are surprisingly light and I didn't have to deal with drains or anything super restrictive like waiting a week to shower or only wearing my post-surgery bra 24/7. Excited to be cleared to exercise soon!
If you have the chance to work with Dr. Margoles and her team, I can promise you are in excellent hands. As I heal more I'm only more impressed and I'm so glad I went with her.
