Finally getting my long-awaited reduction!!

WORTH IT
I've wanted to get a breast reduction since... probably for about the last 15 years. The only thing I can think about is, that before now, it was not meant to happen. Here I am, mid 40's in age, a size 36 JJ (maybe a little smaller since I lost 50 pounds) but still very top-heavy.
I am like many here in my boob history (I've always been boob-a-licious) so I won't bore you with all of that. Just know that I finally have the right insurance (that doesn't have an exclusionary clause), the right doctor and I've lost enough weight to see that my boobs would not decrease in size without surgery... I'm so excited and tons of fear/anxiety.

Good luck!! I'm 10 weeks post op and the only regret I've had is not doing it sooner!! So many aches, pains and missed cute outfits I didn't have to deal with! Best wishes and look forward to seeing your journey!

Ohhh thank you so much. I'm so happy I did it... I cannot wait to feel like my old self. I feel good, for sure but I'm till easily tired (I am at 2 weeks;2 days post op). I started scar cream this week but still have glue on my sutures. I have an appt Tuesday and I'm sure they will take a couple of stitches out that are starting "to spit" at the bottom of each boob. I go back to work Monday and I can't believe that I am a little anxious about it. I am with you on wising I had done it sooner... so many missed opportunities for elimination of aches and pains and cute outfits Lol. I am pleased overall and have no regrets...

Breast Reduction... Complete!

Long story short... I had my surgery on 11/14/19. Had to check in at 5:30am; surgery began on time at 8:30am... Surgery lasted 4 hours and I was in recovery for a couple hours. I was in pain as we headed home but Tylenol took the edge off so we could get my pain medication and Oral antibiotics. Believe it or not, I was a bit hungry when I got home and ate soup/bread... then I drifted off to La-la-land for the rest of the night.
Fast forward to 3am: I thought I could get to the restroom alone. My husband was sleeping and my mom was upstairs. Well, I passed out in the bathroom. Not sure if it was from the anesthesia or pain or what... not a great feeling.
Word to the wise... for the first few days, you will need help completing your activities of daily living.
Oh... I have drains and doctor said I would get them removed in a week. I added a couple before pics...two of which were when I was in the hospital right before my surgery.

Ohhhh wow!! That's amazing! How did your follow-up go? I had my drains for a whole week. Then the next week, I had a few sutures removed as they were poking through the skin... and one more follow-up tomorrow. My recovery has been pretty good. I'm mostly just tired. I went back to work today and wow! I wanted to come home about mid-day but I made it through the day.

Did you get a free nipple graft or keyhole?

No, I did not have a FNG. I was able to reduce to a nice size with the inverted T option. I will have to post pics, once I edit them.

I'm so glad the comment was removed before I even saw it... I appreciate the support. The comment must have been awful. That kind of thing makes me want to take the pics down....

Luckily the RealSelf staff are awesome at monitoring for that kind of stuff. I've thought the same thing before honestly about taking mine down but I remember how long/hard I had to search to find people sharing their stories and results and how it was the driving force behind my decision after waiting 9-10 years and knowing I probably would have just stayed miserable due to not knowing what it was gonna be like/what to expect. I'm really thankful for this site, community and updates/reviews like yours, but in the end you gotta do what's right for you! Thanks for sharing so far!

I love the RealSelf community and the staff is amazing! Thank you RealSelf staff! And you're right, I have really appreciated being able to read about others' stories. I waited 15 years+ for this surgery... and I am so glad I could finally get it done. and at least the comment is gone.

TMI ALERT!

So about day 4-5, I had to decide between pain management and going to the potty... the anesthesia and pain meds can certainly make “movement” very difficult. I was in so much pain (trying to go to the potty), I thought I was going to have to go back to the hospital for help. It was so bad that I kept thinking “I worked hard to lose weight to get under a 34 BMI, had a successful breast reduction as far as I could tell, and now I’m going to pass away right here in the bathroom.” Soooo funny but not funny. I was able to get some relief by staying hydrated... stool softeners, a colon cleanser and an enema. Omg. Sorry for all the details but I’m telling you that the struggle was real. My advice to everyone: stay ahead of the pain but taking Tylenol instead of the Rx pain meds might be just as effective. And drink lots of water....

If you get some magnesium citrate... I take the capsules. I take it for muscle cramps. I'm in pain management.. My dr told me how much to take but the great part is it helps constipation! If a person has diarrhea, they would need to take magnesium oxide. I sure wish i had known about this yrs ago! Good luck!!

Yes... I honestly didn't think I was gonna have that type of problem. Everything is resolved now but... going forward, I know magnesium citrate can do the trick. Thanks so much!!

You are very welcome! Maybe someone else will read your story and be ready. I've been trying to get a reduction all year..was set up, went in for pre op and my blood was too anemic to put me under anaesthesia. Plus, my husband passed away after 45 yrs... this year has just been... Well not my best year anyways! Good luck, Hon..best wishes on healing!!
