Already Feeling Better from my Extreme Reduction

WORTH IT
Like most of us I started growing breasts in puberty and mine never stopped like the other girls. I was thin all my teen years. When I was married I had to order a dress size larger to accommodate my breasts and then have it altered back down to my body size.
I was around 17 or 18 when they first told me I needed a breast reduction. They told me that my chances of breast-feeding were low due to the size of reduction I needed. I decided to wait until after all my children were born. After that I ended up getting sick with an auto-immune disease and my window closed for several years while they worked to put it into remission.
Finally at 47 I had my surgery last week! I had the best surgeon and staff. They helped calm all my fears and worries. I spent the night in the hospital due to my heath issues.
On day 2 I freaked out a little bit, I'd seen hundreds of pictures on this website by this point but they looked so small and weird. They are already looking better on day 6 post op. I have both the before pictures I took in the hospital bathroom right before surgery and then a couple of updated pictures. I will continue to update their progress.
I already am breathing better, my posture is better, and I've had zero neck pain since the surgery. One nipple has feeling already, the other side is number but I'm hopeful. Even if it doesn't, I'm very happy to have the one, I'm very lucky I had such a skilled surgeon to do my extreme reduction.
My size was a 36N and while I haven't been measured yet they think I will be a 36DDD or maybe larger but they are so much smaller then what I was carrying around. He took out a little over 2lbs on each side.
I'm excited to get them and myself healed so I can go back to exercising without all the extra boob weight!

Thank you for sharing your review with the RealSelf community and congratulations on going through with the procedure! Sounds like you saw the benefits of the surgery immediately. Can't wait to follow your journey to recovery and final results!

Thank you!!! I appreciate that. I feel so much better and I think they will look great given time to heal. I can't believe I have perky boobs. It's like a miracle!!

They look great now! I am VERY nervous to have mine next month.

I was ridiculously nervous! They had to keep calming me at each appointment. I have to say, looking down that next day, I panicked. They looked so small and weird and one side looked smaller and oddly shaped. I think it was all the meds I was coming down off of but I truly got teary. It's only day 6 and each day they look better and I guess you shape them with wired bras over the next few months. So this isn't even the final shape. After that initial shock, like everyone else, I should have done it sooner. Although I'm not sad to get a mid-life breast lift! Good luck!! It will be great! I'll be watching for your review :)

You mentioned you had a auto immune disease. How did you find surgery did it impact on any symptoms? I too have anto immune and worried if it will effect me.

I'm in remission thanks to Enbrel. I had to stop it a week before and two weeks after surgery. I get to restart tomorrow and have had no signs of a flare! I waited until I was in remission though. I had a hysterectomy before I was diagnosed but was already sick. That was awful. I would work really closely with your rheumatologist to time the surgery for the best outcome. I also had be admitted to the hospital and stay overnight as a precaution. Good luck!! It's so worth it!! One of the best things I've done for myself. Now I'm going to try and talk all my doctors into letting me do an outpatient tummy tuck!!

Thank you so much!! It's an adjustment for sure but I am excited how much more active I can be with my new breasts.

Hello tuckymom, don’t be nervous. I had mine done on October 4, and they look great. Maybe even better than when I was a teenager. Don’t even need a bra, or a sport bra works perfect. No more nasty under wire bras.
Good Luck!!!

Thank you! After carrying around abnormally large breasts since puberty, it's amazing to have normal-sized breasts.

I am 59 and recently had a breast reduction in Turkey, I live in the UK. I was only a 36E but am small framed and only 5,2 so my breasts looked huge. I went down to a 36C and look so much better and slimmer.

Truth! I look so much smaller with smaller breasts. I've lost volume in the top of my breasts. So I'm really debating in my head how much that bothers me. I have my year check up next month and I'm going to talk about it then.

Feeling great

Much easier recovery than I had feared. It's 12 dpo and the surgery pain is almost gone, I no longer take anything for pain. I'm not lifting anything and I can still hurt them on accident, so I'm careful, but all in all an easy recovery.

Thanks!! I have arthritis in my neck, probably due to the weight of my breasts and it hasn't hurt since surgery! I can also breath a lot better. For me, it really was needed for my health.

I’m in love!

After some rough patches in the very beginning, I am absolutely in love with my new breasts! I can’t stop looking at them. I show them to anyone that shows interest. Including strangers in bathrooms lol.

My nipples look amazing!

It’s been exactly 4 weeks since my surgery. I’m going in next week for a check up. I’m hoping I can talk to them about scheduling a tummy tuck for early spring.
