40 undergoing bilateral breast reduction and Tummy Tuck

WORTH IT$7,500
I had my surgery on Monday March 13th and I was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday March 14th. My insurance covered the breast reduction. I had to pay a 20 percent coinsurance which amounted to $2500 out of pocket and my insurance covered the other 80 percent. I had to pay $5000 for tummy tuck since that is cosmetic. So far I am pleased with my reduction/ lift and tummy tuck. I honestly cannot determine what my results will look like considering I am still super swollen and lifted really high. I was told my breasts will drop a little once the swelling goes down. Overall I'm pleased and anticipating the final results! I was really nervous but the process was so easy. I was given exparel for pain management along with other medication so the pain has been tolerable. I only have one drain. So far I'm very happy I made the decision to reduce my breasts. I already feel light on my feet. I was a 38F and now I think I am a C/D cup which is more natural and matches my 5'4 frame. I am two days post op so I plan to share more pictures over time

Thanks for sharing. You look great already. I am a 38F also and have wanted a reduction since I was a teen. :( Still breastfeeding my second (last) at the moment. Any tips in getting insurance to cover the reduction? Thanks!

I have Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and they were very strict with approving it. I had to see 3 doctors besides the plastic Surgeon who requested it and two had to be experts in musculoskeletal arena so I saw an Orthopedist for neck and shoulder pain as well as a chiropractor for a minimum of 6 months. My orthopedist had me see a physical therapist for about 8 weeks, as well as I had to have an MRI done etc. You have to show documentation that you have done conservative therapy first like over the counter as well as prescription medication, physical therapy, massages chiropractor as well as have different physicians document that you have pain. I had medical notes from an orthopedist, Chiropractor, family practice doctor and plastic surgeon had to show documentation through the past 6 months that I was under their care for neck and shoulder and back pain and they tried all conservative therapies first. Once all of that medical documentation was submitted it was approved . I started the process as soon as I gave birth because I had met my out of pocket max and so I could see all of those doctors without paying anything out of pocket since I had already met my out of pocket max from giving birth. I hope this helps.

Today is day 2 of post operation and I feel better than yesterday but still taking it easy. I take my medication consistently to stay ahead of any pain. I took off my bra and stomach band to take pictures and I am already pleased with my results. The only thing that bothers me is it appears that my left breast is still larger than my right which I was hoping would be corrected during the breast reduction procedure. It's only 2 days post operation so it is really to soon to tell how they will settle so I am staying optimistic. Here are more pics.

Today I am 5 days post-operation. Most of my pain and discomfort is from the extreme constipation and not my surgery itself. I have been really good about taking my medications regularly so that may be why the surgery itself is pretty manageable . I am still swollen but overall I am very pleased with my results. My only concern is my left breast is very noticeably larger than my right. Originally this was a problem that I had but my plastic surgeon and I discussed that she would be able to make them symmetrical during the reduction. This is an issue I will definitely bring up at my post-op appointment on Monday.
