5 days post opt

Recovery is going extremely well so far! I am currently 5 days post op and I'm almost completely off meds. I'm going to continue taking the antibiotics until they are gone as instructed by my doctor. :)

27 yr old, 1 child in need of some upholstery

Hi everyone, I was hesitant to share my story prior to surgery, however I decided to share my journey because I'm only 4 days post opt and I feel amazing about my decision and I can honestly say it's because I know I made right decision in choosing the doctor for my procedure. I am extremely pleased with my results and outcome that Dr. Cohen has given me.
I've always wanted perky "normal" size breast. Since I was a teenager I had large saggy breast, which I feel that it interfered with me loving and really connecting with my body and also always having body image issues. My weight has always fluctuated between 130-178 (not including my pregnancy weight) which also affected the appearance of my breast.
When I had my first and only child in 2012 I nursed him up until he was 2 1/2 yrs old. The first 6 months I was producing so much milk! I had enough to feed one healthy boy and store twice as much. I was not with my sons father since about half my pregnancy. After breast feeding for so long being unhappy with the appearance of my breast (size and shape) I decided to look into the breast reduction procedure. Come to find out my insurance (Kaiser) would cover if I had history of back pain (which I do). In the beginning of 2015 is when I started the process to try to get this procedure by my insurance, mind you I was still nursing at this point which it was only for comfort at night since he was already 2 1/2 yrs. In Feb 2015 I was referred to plastic surgery by my primary care provider, within a week I was called and set up for orientation for breast reduction for the following friday and by two weeks from my orientation I was scheduled for a consultation with a plastic surgeon (all within Kaiser).
My consultation didn't go as well, basically the Dr. told me I needed to lose weight ( I was 160lbs which is normal weight for me) and that I needed to stop lactating, logical but I have no control over that. He didn't even offer any options or other routes or even concern for that matter, I scheduled a couple more consultations but I never went back because I was so discouraged by my first encounter.
For about 1 year and a half after that I was very busy from going thru a lot transitions and responsibilities from new employers to being a single mom therefore I kinda let the search for this procedure to the side at the time, I believe that's when I created my account with RS and I would just lurk on my down time.
Just about 7 months ago is when I found stability with my current employer and thought to myself, am I'm not getting any younger and I been wanting this for so long, I deserve this!
I started searching for a doctor by quality of work, experience, then price.
I consulted with Dr. Ruben Abram in September, didn't go well. He decided himself that I need a breast lift only not considering I went in for a breast reduction consultation so he quoted at $12,000 for just a lift. Thereafter i consulted with Dr Ken who's in Orange County, I was referred by my aunt who had a breast lift by him which looks great. My consultation with him went well, he gave me more knowledge of the procedures both lift and reduction and the long term effects of both which I really appreciate and he quoted at $6,000 for a lift and $7,500 for a reduction. Yes it was great deal and he seemed knowledgeable of both procedures and he did show some concern and interest for me but I did not feel his confidence which was the reason I didn't chose him as my doctor.
Thereafter about a month later in October I consulted with Dr. Cohen, when booking an appointment with him it was not difficult considering he is in Santa Monica every other week, I was very impressed by his work and the reviews and I couldn't wait to meet with him. I had a list of questions and I prepared myself as if he was going to interview me! Lol. Everything felt right from him listening to my desired look and considering my body type to him giving my more expertise advise and knowledge, I felt so confident already! He quoted me at the highest but I put a few things in perspective, I thought to myself if I go with someone else and I'm unsatisfied with the outcome I will be upset at myself by not choosing Dr. Cohen, and also I would have to pay for a revision and take more time off work. I also considered the fact that this is a one time procedure for me, women who get breast implants have to go back in some time for replacement and over all I could not put a price on the relief and confidence he has given me now!
Recovery is going extremely well so far! I am currently 3 days post op and I'm almost completely off meds. I'm going to continue taking the antibiotics until they are gone as instructed by my doctor. :)
