1 Week Post-Op

Hey! Finally in good spirits to update you all on my journey. I am currently 1 week post-op but forgot to share my “day of”experience and day 3 photos.
When I got to the hospital, the care team was already getting me ready. The anesthesiologist gave me some pain meds prior to surgery. Dr. Yates arrived shortly after and gave me more assurances to keep me calm. She then started to draw on me to mark where she planned to cut. Then, my surgical gown, I was whisked off to the OR and before I realized anything, I was fast asleep.
After surgery, I woke up feeling like I got hit by a truck. The care team tried to wake me and got some crackers into my system since I had stopped eating the night before. Per Dr Yates’ instructions, I could be released to go home as soon as I could pass urine. This was difficult because I felt empty. After about 30-45 minutes of trying, I had a small sample but it was enough to let me out. By this time the pain meds were wearing off and My family needed to quickly get to the pharmacy for the Oxy.
I had more crackers and took the Oxy ASAP. I woke up the next morning with the worst nausea. I was throwing up. Dr. Yates team was on it right away and prescribed something for the nausea. However, no matter what I was feeling heartburn, vomiting, nausea etc. I thought maybe the Oxy was the cause. I decided to taper off to Tylenol. As soon as I was off of it, I immediately regained my appetite.
I just had my 1 week post-op appointment. Breasts are healing nicely. Abs are still very swollen and the drains are still filling up. I have been told they will keep them in until Next week or longer if needed. Dr. Yates also wants me to start lymphatic massages for my abs. I have my first one book for tomorrow. I’m looking forward to it as I am really tight and puffy.
More updates to come.

New Me 2020

I had a VGS performed in 2015. After years of obesity, I was almost completely delated. The only problem is that I lost weight every but my breasts. They remained extremely large and over time began to experience massive back and shoulder pain. My primary decided it was time to consult with Plastics. I knew this was coming and began to save up for this costly procedure.
I started shopping around and met some amazing professionals, but no one made me feel the way I felt when I met Dr. Yates. Let's start with her office. It's like a heaven for women. Girl power to its finest. Moreover, Dr. Yates is stunning and exudes warmth as soon as she walks into the clinic. This is extremely helpful as I am a nervous wreck about these procedures and the comfort she provides makes you comfortable to make the leap. She talked to me about my journey and what I wanted. I told her that I was also interested in getting an abdominoplasty to address an insecurity I have had my whole life.
She examined me and told me I would be a great candidate for both the reduction and abdominoplasty. Then, she gave me the ins and outs of the operation and recovery. She took a step further and addresses concerns that I hadn’t thought of and none of the other surgeons mentioned. First, she would not operate on me until I got a mammogram. Given my young age, I had never had one, but she wanted to ensure I am healthy first. Next, as a black woman, she cane up with a plan for Keloid Skin prevention. She took up the whole appointment with me and was very patient. With the other doctors, It felt like a rushed experience. I knew right then and there that Dr. Yates was the surgeon for me.
Her nurse Sarah is just as amazing. I told her right away I wanted to proceed. She scheduled with the hospital and gave me some materials on the procedures and what to expect. At the end, I met with Natalie in the front. Natalie is super on top of her game. I have never seen an office run so efficiently. Natalie told me there was a possibility of my breast reduction being covered by my insurance. Obviously, I didn’t hesitate and wanted to take advantage. Within days of submitting the paperwork, the insurance approved. Yay! So, I only had to pay the co-pay and the costs of the abdominoplasty.
I am scheduled to go in this week for the procedure. I will be sure to provide updates along my recovery journey.
