DIEP Flap Reconstruction After Mastectomy
Due to Ductal Carcinoma inSitu, I opted for a double mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction.
Dr Pisano and team performed the 10 hour surgery. Removed all breast tissue, sparing the skin and nipples. They removed tissue from my abdomen, giving me a ‘tummy tuck’ in the process. Every step was explained to me prior to surgery. I stayed in the hospital 2 days, walking the morning after surgery. They have a FANTASTIC recovery protocol which controlled my pain so well I never took a narcotic! The folks at PRMA in San Antonio TX are absolutely THE BEST!!! ( one of my greatest fears was waking up with nothing on my chest and feeling deformed). Thanks to PRMA I had the reconstruction at the same time as the mastectomy so this fear was completely eliminated! I am now cancer free, have a ‘new’ bustline as well as a flatter tummy. As I am expecting my very first grandson, this all means more to me than words can express!!!
