I decided this past fall to do a revisions to my previous breast surgery. I wanted my large, over the muscle implants removed with much smaller, under the muscle implants with a lift. Sent photos, had Zoom conference with Dr. Alejandro. Read reviews, felt 100% confident. Did all required pre op blood work. Saw cardiologist the day before, hospital was nice enough. Met Dr. Alejandro the morning of my surgery. He did some quick markings then sent me down to prep for surgery. Woke up with him saying it went well, just some issues on the right side from previous surgery. Would only cause slower healing, no big deal. Took off the bandages 2 days post op per instructions to shower. Right nipple was black. Was told it is a scab that would fall off. OK, makes sense. Stayed in PV for my one week post op. Had drains removed. Was told the right side was slow healing and to get his recommended medicated gauze. OK, did that and went home a few days later. Lots of drainage and it was not feeling any better. Sent photos a week later. Was told it was just slow healing and keep it dry. OK, did that as I was watching more of my skin go black on both breasts. Went to urgent care a week later who then immediately sent me to the hospital. I was hospitalized 11 days. Surgery removed 90% of my right breast and 30% of my left breast. All necrotic tissue. Both implants out as well. I am now 1 1/2 weeks out of the hospital and on a portable wound vacuum for the next 2-3 months 24/7. Reconstruction cannot begin for at least another 6 months, with multiple surgeries to come. Interesting, while hospitalized, the first message since I sent the home photos and told to just keep it dry requesting "Post" photos for my file. I explained I was currently hospitalized and the situation along with photos of my deformed breasts attached to wound vacuums from my hospital bed. Response? Keep up posted. Nothing since. The cost of this will be in the multiple thousands. The mental anguish is indescribable. I know any surgery can go wrong, but why no post op visit for a week? The follow up is where I feel it is lacking! This could have been caught sooner! There is no way I was ready to go home when Dr. Alejandro knew my right breast and nipple was fully necrotic at the one week visit. If you are considering this, know your insurance will not cover complications upon return. It is also next to impossible to get a plastic surgeon to look at you. I was lucky the plastic surgeon on call when I went into the ER was kind and compassionate enough to know I needed help and took me as a patient. What is your plan for follow up when you return home? Don't do this on a hope and prayer it will work out. Don't end up like me.
