Breast lift with Implants

WORTH IT
Before I share my story, I've got to say that the Real Self platform was just a genius idea! I've been contemplating a breast lift for over a year and I desperately wanted to talk to people who had experienced the procedure first hand. I wanted to know and see the good, the bad and the ugly of what it entailed and what I should expect and watch for. This was something that was very private for me, so I wasn't going to just hop onto Facebook and post - "Hey, who out there got a boob lift w/ implants and wants to show me all of their recovery pics from start to finish, oh, and let's talk about infections... necrosis.... asymmetry ... bloating?!" ...asking for a friend.
So... having Real Self as a tool for research was invaluable to me. There wasn't much of anything I experienced before, during or after my surgery that caught me off guard. Between Real Self and podcasts (I'm a podcast junky) I was well armed and prepared for all that I've experienced so far. (Daniel Barrett / The Natural Plastic Surgeon and Rady Rahban/ Plastic Surgery Uncensored were the most helpful & informative podcasters).I am almost four weeks post-op and wasn't planning on sharing, but it's only fair to give back to this great community. And I want to say thank you to all of the women on here who shared. You've been so helpful. :)Here's my story: In my youth, my breasts were fine, but never spectacular. I've never had children; never been overweight. But age and gravity don't care - they made my breasts quite UN-spectacular! Plus I recently turned 50. Between the ongoing drooping of my breasts and the psychological effect that turning 50 had on me, I started to really think about getting some help for my sad little body and started saving up the money. Here are my stats:Age - 50Weight at time of surgery - 128Height 5'7"Pre-surgery bra-size - Victoria Secret Lace Demi 34C (should've been a B; the 34C had gotten very loose in the cup)Implant brand & size: Allergan Natrelle Inspira SoftTough 345cc on both sidesBody type & lifestyle:  I guess you'd call me slender or lean. I'm long-waisted and have OK muscle tone. In the past I did extreme exercise like HITT and Crossfit; bit only running in the last 5 years. Non-smoker; non-drinker; no drugs or prescriptive meds; I eat healthy 75% of the time; run 3x a week but currently am not doing anything with weights.Well before surgery - choosing a doctor:I scheduled consultations with 3 surgeons (all outside of my local market because I couldn't find any before/after pics online from local doctors that I liked). However, after meeting with Dr. Ulm, my husband and I both felt so confident and comfortable with him, I cancelled my other appointments. He took time with us and never made me feel embarrassed or uncomfortable. He is kind, meticulous and compassionate. He listened and made recommendations while letting me explore all of the options available for my size.  His credentials are 2nd to none; he's double board certified and did his fellowship at Harvard. Dr. Ulm is the man! I am lucky to have him as my doctor. 2 weeks prior to surgery:I usually eat fairly clean when possible, but stepped up my game prior to surgery. I comfortably cut back on bad carbs like sweets and cut out breads; trying to reduce inflammation. I also took HealFast pre-op supplements in the days before surgery.I purchased a couple surgical bras and sit-up bed-pillow prior to surgery. I picked up my med prescriptions prior to surgery. It's also a good idea to buy a pack of 5x9 abdominal pads because your doc may recommend using those post op. I am a germ-a-phobe and rather than use the dial antibacterial soap my nurse recommended, I used Hibiclens pre-surgery antibacterial cleanser for 2 days in a row prior to surgery as well as the morning before.

I am 60 now but fortunately have had that procedure ... and mini face lift. I echo your feelings about giving back to the community. I am Canadian but travelled out of province 5 years ago.. everything had done was by Martin Guiffre of Edmonton, Alberta. Very satisfied, his prices are high though. I would say my lifestyle mirrors your own. It’s not an ego thing, but it is nice to be mistaken for 45 vs 60. I keep my work done to myself. My 3 kids and hubby know of course though. Kinda private with it.. prefer that for myself. It’s a somewhat judgemental thing in this community . Take care, thanks and don’t be afraid to look on your outside the way you feel inside. Ps.. never posted b4 but thot I should finally give back too!

Thank you for sharing all this information. Your results are amazing. Were your implants placed above or below the muscle?

Day of surgery

User Avatar

The day of surgery was easy. We scheduled an early afternoon appt and I was well rested and calm. This surgery took about 1-1/2 to 2 hours and I don’t remember a thing til we were checked out and walking into our hotel room.
My hubby showed me a video he took after coming out of recovery. He asked me who he was, and I was calling him Brad Pitt, lol. You know he liked that!!
As my head got clearer I started to feel discomfort - I guess from the swelling, but really didn’t feel any pain all evening. I took my pain medicine so that I wouldn’t start to hurt, and muscle relaxer. I never felt nauseated and slept pretty well. It was a little uncomfortable to sit up tall or cough.

Hey there. Thanks for sharing your story. I’ve read all your posts and they have been so helpful. Thank you for that. I am getting the same work done on June 19th. I am sooooooo nervous about the pain! I am not good with pain and am really scared of passing out. I was told not to look at my boobs for a while. And I’m going to listen. Do you have any tips or advice? Something you wish you’d known before your surgery? Thank you so much in advance. I appreciate it :)

I listened to so many podcasts prior to the surgery that I wasn’t caught off guard for much of anything. So when you have time just educate yourself from smart docs. Daniel Barrett was great! So was Rady Rahban. One surgeon in the podcast said to make sure your doc is board certified, that they are experienced and that they are kind. If you have problems during or after recovery, you wanna make sure they understand and will step to the plate to make it right. As far as pain goes, I honestly don’t think it was too bad. I was more uncomfortable from the swelling and my bra band felt unbearably tight. But the muscle pain was bearable. I took a pain pill the first day after afterwards, and just the evening of the 2nd day because I foolishly thought I’d be able to endure that. In hindsight I wish I had waited 3 days to go to work. Take your pills when you need them; don’t be a hero. You could ask your doc if he using a numbing agent prior to cutting. Mine did - kinda like a Novocain effect - and I was numb for about 5 days. The most cringing moment was looking at my nipples on day 3-5 and they looked so much like dead, lifeless tissue - almost like plastic. That was freaky but it healed! So don’t let yourself get scared. The way our bodies can heal themselves is amazing. And lastly, make sure you listen to the docs instructions. If he says don’t lift, don’t. He’s not saying that because you’re too weak to lift, your muscles are in a fragile state and they’re trying to keep them from tearing and bleeding. Good luck on your surgery!! It’s so nerve wrecking but exciting!! Yay for you!!!

Awesome. Thank you so much for your time. I can’t wait bcus I know the end results will be so worth it. I am 100% pro meds and plan on being on them faithfully until I feel little pain. How do you feel now? Have you worn things you could wear before yet?

Sorry or the late response. I didn't see your questions! Within 2 weeks I felt really good. Within 4 weeks they were feeling like part of my body. I can wear most of my clothes from before. How did your surgery go??!
May 31, 2020
My surgery is the 19th if June. I’m three weeks out. How about new clothes? Are you enjoying wearing things you couldn’t wear before?

Yay!! You're gonna do great! :). I haven't shopped for clothes because of Covid. Our parents live with us so we are taking extra caution to keep them safe. But I have ordered swimsuits from amazon and just love filling out a top now. I can't wait to shop. I can wear some styles now that never looked good before. I'll be watching for your posts. :)!

Thank you! Yes, I plan to post a lot to help those who are looking to do the same procedure. I should pay it forward. I’m so nervous about the pain. I’m not good with pain. I think I’m going to pass out at some point. Not even from the actually pain, but from the thought of having pain. Lol.

Haha!! Don't fret!! You will have pain meds that work very, very well! Take them and you won't experience much discomfort at all. And within a day or two, if you didn't take them, it will feel really sore, like when you do an extreme chest workout, but it's bearable. You're gonna be just fine!

Follow up visit - first day post-op

User Avatar
BreastWishes2020
The follow up visit was the next morning. This was my first time seeing the twins since the surgery! To me, they looked ENORMOUS!!! I had heard of breast greed and immediately thought “I won’t be experiencing that!”

We had an easy drive home and I chilled out the rest of the night. I didn’t feel much pain, except my ribs were sore and when I breathed in deep or sat up, that was uncomfortable. I took an afternoon and evening pain, plus my antibiotic and muscle relaxer. I was thankful that I wasn’t in extreme pain. The meds were doing their job! I slept most of the evening.
