The First Night After the Surgery
WORTH IT
The interpreter woke me up after the surgery and general anesthesia. A couple of minutes later, with the help of the medical staff, I was transferred to a wheelchair and taken to the recovery area, where they monitor you after surgery how quickly you’re waking up, whether you’re having any side effects from the anesthesia, checking your blood pressure, and all that.
Once everything looked okay, I was taken to my private room. One thing I really liked was that the rooms are in the same building as the clinic, on one of the upper floors (the second-to-last floor, if I remember correctly). They kept me there overnight, although I’m sure this depends on the type and combination of surgeries you have.
The room itself was clean and spacious, with everything you could possibly need: a comfortable bed, a call button for the nurses, and an AMAZING view of the city! ????
There were huge floor-to-ceiling windows, so I had something to entertain myself with haha. You could close the curtains whenever you wanted, though…..And despite being literally in the city center, I couldn’t hear any traffic or city noise at all. The windows were really well soundproofed, which was a big deal for me because I’m such a light sleeper Loud noises and bright light drive me crazy haha. So for someone like me, everything was pretty much covered.
I was honestly more than happy with the room :)
And then… WATER
As we all know, you’re not supposed to eat or drink after midnight before surgery, and obviously I followed the rules. But OMG, was I thirsty I think I was allowed to start drinking water around 9:30 pm?! I mentioned it to the nurse on the night shift, and this sweetheart actually brought me a bottle of water in advance so I wouldn’t have to wait for it ???? I immediately attacked it the second I was allowed to drink haha
There’s also a doctor on duty overnight, so don’t be worried about staying there. It’s not just a random “room” where they leave you after surgery — there’s medical staff around and everything is set up for you to recover comfortably and safely.
They also brought me Korean pumpkin porridge (???). Apparently pumpkin is considered helpful for dealing with swelling, which makes sense after surgery. I thought it was a nice little detail, and the food was light and easy on the stomach.
The only problem? I don’t really like sweet soups or sweet drinks
So after a couple of spoonfuls, I called the nurse and told her I couldn’t eat any more. She asked, “You don’t like sweet things?” I said no…
…and she came back with vegetable porridge
Yeah, they definitely weren’t going to let me starve. Another little plus for me, especially as a tiny picky eater haha.
I also walked around the floor quite a bit because I wanted to help my body recover faster, and honestly, I think it did help.
And surprisingly, I didn’t have any horrible, unbearable pain. At one point I started feeling some pain radiating toward my armpit, but even that was totally manageable.
I’ve added some photos : a few hours after surgery and the next morning of my discharge
For anyone wondering what I actually had done: a breast lift + augmentation and rhinoplasty. Nothing dramatic with the nose just a subtle refinement of what I already had: a small hump and a tip that I wanted to make a little more delicate.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth the whole first night after surgery felt????
