If Dr. Roughton Can't Fix It, NO ONE CAN! She is the BEST. PERIOD.
In case anyone skims, I want to preface this by saying that Dr. Roughton is an absolute INCREDIBLE surgeon and I would trust her with my life! The negative points made in this review are concerning another surgeon and the mess Dr. Roughton had to fix in order to give me my dream boobies!!!
When I went to see Dr. Roughton, I had implants too small for my frame, too narrow for my chest width, and horribly displaced. My first experience with a breast augmentation was downright disappointing and left me with breast more depressing than the sheer lack of what I had before. Not only did I never even get a chance to try on sizers I was also never given a choice of various implant types - something I didn't realize was suspicious in itself until later research. My first surgeon told me everything I wanted to hear at my consultation, but when it came time for my pre-op, one day prior and after I had already paid my fees in full and surpassed the refundable time period, he was suddenly singing a different tune. He all but shamed me for the breast size I wanted, claiming I would look 'fake' and top heavy. He insisted on being ultra-conservative and said that what we had previously discussed simply would not fit in my body. At that point I felt totally dismissed and hopeless. I could either go through with a surgery I had anticipated and wanted to 27 years, or walk away from nearly 6k and my dream of having breasts. My eager self went against better judgment and I had surgery the following day. After having asked for roughly 350-400 CC implants, I woke up with 200 CC's in my L breast and 245 CC's in my R breast. To say I was devastated was an understatement. Even worse, within just a few weeks, my implants began to bottom out.
By the time I saw Dr. Roughton, my implants were sitting so low that my nipples pointed straight upward and I felt depressed every time I looked at myself naked. When I had my consultation with her, my only goal was to just look 'normal' again. I didn't even care about having larger breasts anymore. So imagine my surprise when I FINALLY met a surgeon who spent an HOUR allowing me to talk, share my feelings, and answer my laundry list of questions at only a consultation appointment. Not only that, but Dr. Roughton shared with me that she herself had implants. I was immediately comforted knowing that I wouldn't be judged for wanting my body to look a certain way; she knew exactly what I meant. Dr. Roughton was kind, patient, and honest. She was up front about what was possible and what was not. She gave me fair expectations and didn't try to sugar-coat anything just to secure a patient.
Before I left her office, I made my down-payment. I was CERTAIN Dr. Roughton was the right choice and there was no need to look any further. After being given all the time I wanted to try on sizers and take selfies, Dr. Roughton and I decided on 505 CC's for my L breast and 590 CC's for my R breast (2 different sizes to correct asymmetry). I was also able to feel various implants and make an informed decision to get a result that mirrored the idea in my head. In the end, I chose Sientra 106 style silicone round smooth high profile implants placed sub-muscularly with an inframammary incision. Dr. Roughton also place gala dissolvable mesh during surgery to correct my displacement and provide increased support to my pocket while my own body creates scar tissue and strengthens the capsule.
Not only do I feel that Dr. Roughton gave me the very best results I could have possibly achieved for this revision, she also gave me my confidence and she gave me a voice. She reminded me that there is power in knowledge. I have since taken the opportunity to share my story via social media so that other women can steer clear of close-minded surgeons like the one I first experienced and save themselves from a world of disappointment. Dr. Roughton is a superior surgeon but furthermore, she is an upstanding woman and someone I am proud to have been a patient of. Her staff at Amelia Aesthetics is the absolute best bar none! I'm talking customer service like you have never seen before. If you are considering a breast augmentation, revision, or any other plastic surgery for that matter, I urge you to seek out a consultation with Dr. Roughton. I promise you will be so happy you did!
