Probably the Safest Doctor I’ve Ever Met, with the CLEANEST Lines and Best Bedside Manner

WORTH IT
I am a 47-year-old woman. I lost between 110 and 120 pounds a couple of years ago, I’ve also had three children, and had nursed each of them for two years and three months. Because of what the nursing had done to my breasts, I got under muscle augmentation done in 2019. Within a couple of years, they had both fully encapsulated. My doctor in the United States had never warned me about this, and I didn’t even know what this was until Dr. Moran explained this entire phenomenon to me, and told me that there is 100% chance that I will have to handle an encapsulation if I replace the implant. I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me back up.

I was searching for a competent Doctor with a keen eye for safety, medical protocol, feminine aesthetics and understanding the patient’s POV — rather than treating the patient like someone on a conveyor belt. P

I sent inquiries to three other physicians in Mexico (as well as physicians in Turkey and Prague.)

Many of them would just give me quotes without actually speaking to me. Others never replied.

I received the quote from Dr. Moran after uploading photos and answering the very detailed questionnaire. I inquired about getting the quote about a week after uploading photos. I did not know that he personally handled each quote. Which is likely to add time as he attends every surgery.

After getting the quote, I sent an extremely long list of questions that relate to patient safety, surgical safety and procedure. Dr. Moran personally wrote me an email (from his own email address) that I estimate took him about an hour to write. He addressed every single one of my concerns thoroughly and directly.

After reading that, I was fairly certain that he was going to be my surgeon. I booked a flight and came to TJ to have an in person consultation. His staff arranged transportation to and from San Diego airport for me.

Every single answer he gave to my questions was a green flag. He does only one surgery a day, he’s in the operating theater the entire time (except when they flip my body — use uses the restroom); he is not just a plastic surgeon, but are reconstructive plastic surgeon (sort of like a PhD as compared to a bachelors degree); he has two assisting plastic surgeons, to keep the surgery length as low as possible for (for safety reasons relating to anesthesia); we went to the Mexican Licensing site, where he showed me that they are indeed licensed; I had specific anesthesiology requests (which are unusual). He listened, understood, and and told me he would have to confirm with the anesthesiologist, but he expected that they could meet my requests (when I met the anesthesiologist she was willing to meet the requests.)

He honestly answered every question I had about common complications, and what he does to mitigate them or address them; he gave me a realistic expectation on what an explant would look like on my body type, and how much my breast size would reduce. He offered some suggestions for my mommy makeover (without the BBL). He was also extremely good at managing what my expectations should be, which are very different than what many other women are looking for. I immediately placed a deposit and schedule the surgery for a month later.

His package includes one night in the hospital, six days and a recovery facility, three meals a day, transportation, all surgical fees (his own, as well as the hospital and anesthesiologist fees), as well as expected medication.

It is written very clearly in his contract that there can be unforeseen expenses, such as extra procedures, or extra medication. His contract is also written in English and is one and a half pages. All of his disclosures are also in English, except for one (which, by Mexican law, is required to be in Spanish. But it comes with an addendum — a fully translated copy in English).

I did have extra expenses, which I detail below, but because he had disclosed this before surgery, I was able to budget it in to my travel expenses, and came with about a 20% contingency, so that I would have no problem with any extra care that was necessary for my well being and health.

I wanted to stay until my drains were out, and told him that I would pay direct to the grand care to extend my stay. His office arranged for the payment to be at his rate, and to receive the same service that he had contracted with them.

I arrived one month later. I was completely taken care of from the moment that I arrived. The aftercare is absolutely outstanding, with some of the best nursing I have ever experienced in my life.

Prior to arriving, Dr. Moran suggested that I do hyperbaric oxygen therapy to help and ensure that I recover as fast as possible. I did one session before my surgery (this will have more context later in my review).

Dr. Moran definitely errs on the side of safety and caution, which I appreciate because I was in my most vulnerable state and needed somebody to advocate for my safety and well-being. I am also here completely alone.

I needed to stay one extra day in the hospital because my blood pressure was a bit low, and I was dizzy when standing. He advised me to stay an extra day, to which I agreed (because he’s the professional and knows what he’s doing). He informed me about the additional cost (which would be approximately $400). There was also some additional medication that was required, which was about $80.

Because this was plainly disclosed in the contract, I had signed, I was prepared for this, I was also thankful for the care (as well as how much cheaper it was than staying in the hospital in the United States.)

The next day, I was discharged and sent to the grand care facility. The nursing here really is second to none, and I could go on about that, but this is a post about Dr. Moran.

The doctor, or his resident physician (who acts as a physicians assistant) came to me daily for the first week.

I’ve never seen anything like this in my entire life.

They would come after surgery (sometimes at 10 o’clock at night) to personally look at me, despite receiving constant reports and photographs from the nurses here.

He deliver versus Service for every single one of his patients.

I won’t lie, liposuction is incredibly hard to go through it physically. I also don’t take pain painkillers. He understood both sides of this and asked if he could prescribe me something slightly stronger (not narcotic, and not as strong as tramadol). He also worked with the nurses to ensure that I was fit properly for my garment, and put into it immediately when this became a problem.

He suggested to me that I should do the hyperbaric chamber as much as possible. (on a daily basis if possible). He did discuss the cost of this during our in person consult, so I was prepared for it.

I had a very hard time walking at this point, getting out of bed to go to the toilet required nurses help. I felt incredibly painful, burning sensations from the liposuction, and was not very easy to deal with. (This is strange for me, because I usually have a high pain threshold, and have delivered three children in my own bed without drugs.)

He strongly encouraged me to get back into the hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Good Lord, I am so thankful he did this. I went from wailing in pain, and barely being able to hobble around my own room, to being able to walk about 1000 steps the next day after the oxygen chamber. On the third day, I was walking down to the oxygen chamber and back (with the nurse following me, at her insistence).

Day four: my drains came out on the upper part of my body. This is unbelievable, and I’m absolutely certain it’s because of Dr. Moran’s suggestion to do hyperbaric.

Day eight: lower body drains are out (this is after a Lipo, a lower body lift, a tummy tuck).

Again: I attribute this to all of the aftercare, the suggestion of Dr. Moran to get hyperbaric, as well as the Massage Therapist his office set up to come to take care of me.

Finally: on my last visit (the first one in his office where he didn’t come to me, but he arranged transportation for me.) he showed me the implants that he had removed. He removed my under muscle implants, and kept them fully intact, without any silicone leakage into my body. Did I mention that he’s meticulous? He is.

I will absolutely be coming back to see him for a neck lift (I lost 110 pounds about three years ago, and that’s something that I cannot work out in the gym.)

I am continuously impressed by his competence, his incredibly keen eye for the feminine aesthetic (is not making us look like an anime) and his integrity.

The only, and I mean, only downside to his practice is the downside that is at every single practice in Mexico: the communication. The standard of communication in response time in the Mexican culture is wildly different than in the USA.

The positive: he is extremely receptive to my input on this matter, he is not stubborn, he always wants to learn and improve. So I think this little hiccup is going to be resolved in very short order.

I would recommend Dr. Moran to my own children. He is incredible, I will be back, and I will be recommending him.

I received:
Explant
Lift
Lipo
Fat transfer to breasts
360° tummy tuck & lower body lift
