Breast implant removal - I had very minimal pain
ORIGINAL POST
Absolutely No Regret
WORTH IT
In my late 50s now, I’m not the same person I was in my 30s when I got 300cc silicone breast implants, so I decided they no longer suited my values or my improvement plans for nutrition and fitness. I was definite about wanting an explant, but when I visited the surgeon who implanted them in the ‘90s, he said it was a complicated and unnecessary procedure and he didn’t recommend it. I left his office wondering about his explant expertise, and I doubted my own mindset.
More than a year later I still wanted an explant. I found Dr Choy at Northbridge and he was very confident about performing the surgery. He explained the outcomes, options and risks and showed me photos of what I would possibly look like. I had a long and detailed discussion with the nurse in his practice, who was very knowledgeable and reassuring. I left my consultation feeling just as confident as Dr Choy and his staff, and I booked a date for surgery in the coming months.
My en bloc procedure went very smoothly. Afterwards I had very minimal pain. Altogether I took only four Panadol while in the hospital, at the nurses’ insistence.
With the drains and the binding, it was uncomfortable for 10 days, but restricted movement was the only negative experience! I knew right away that I had done the right thing for myself, even though I’ve never suffered from breast implant illness or implant complications.
After the drains were removed in the Northbridge rooms, I studied the results once I got home, and they are astounding. I opted not to have a breast lift, and secretly I was steeling myself with the possibility of looking sadly deflated, but my natural breasts actually look really good. There is a scar under each breast, and both are already healing well. There is minimal droop after breastfeeding two babies in my 30s, as well as making allowances for the ageing process, and menopausal weight gain in the last few years.
I’m more than happy with my decision to remove the implants and feel mentally and physically lighter without them.
