A 50 Year Old Saying Goodbye to 25 Year Old Implants!

LadyTLee
WORTH IT

It all started with a mammogram in mid January that displayed a rupture to my left implant. As soon as I got home I started my research to find a Plastic Surgeon. I turned to my doctor, family, friends, social media and newspaper articles for advice. I came to choose Dr. Sanders, a warm, hardworking genteel surgeon with artistic hands. Yes, he’s a Harvard Medical School graduate, but quite honestly, I just liked him as a fellow person.

At my consultation I met the lovely and essential Suzy Ortiz who booked me in. At Pre- op Nurse Karen went over everything and Danielle sorted out my paper work and full payment.

April 20th was theater day and I met Norman who is a delightful angel and took great care of me and Gladys , my fierce anesthesiologist that whipped up a wonderful cocktail of meds which I’m grateful helped me “miss the party.”

I’m home now, comfortable and watching movies my husband will never want to watch! Yay!!! No compromise these next few days!

I’m eating well with homemade soup, fresh fruit salad and smoothies with berries and pineapple that my hottie husband of 18 years made for me. Life is good and I’m very grateful to everyone who helped me at George H. Sanders M.D!

I will post pictures of before and after my surgery to help women who are considering this procedure. I haven’t seen my breasts yet, but I’m very happy to be rid of my implants! I am 50 now and what served me when I was in my 20’s doesn’t serve me now.

Oh! Big perk was that drains weren’t as big as I thought they would be!

I’ll post photos later. Evidently, they’re too big to post.

Glad you are feeling well & on the road to recovery! My implants are 31 years old and I am in the process of looking for a surgeon. Thank you for posting!
April 22, 2021
Oh, thank you and you’re welcome. Any questions please feel free to ask.
April 23, 2021
I’m dying to know how painful it is?
April 30, 2021
Took pain killers for 3 days. Tylenol worked perfectly after that for the next few days. Now just taking arnica and Bromelain. I’m on my 10th day and have no pain.
April 23, 2021
Well, I’ve decided the first 3 days I’ll take the pain killers prescribed then see how the Tylenol works after that. Currently, I’m hardly feeling any pain. Tomorrow, I’ll start Tylenol after seeing the doctor.
April 23, 2021
It’s my second day, so currently taking pain killers and I’m hardly feeling any pain from surgery. I see my doctor and nurse practitioner tomorrow and will ask advice on when I should switch to extra strength Tylenol.

Hi! May I ask what type of implants you had and if you experienced any BII related issues during these years?
Thank you!
July 19, 2021
Hmm...I had silicone implants, but did I have BII related issues? I would say yes. It is early days, but I do already feel a huge difference in my joints. My whole left side, neck, shoulder, back all the way down to my leg and foot, I had tremendous stiffness and pain. No matter what I had done.. Jacuzzi, chiropractor osteopath... nothing really worked. Since having my implants out, I don't have the same discomfort as I had with the implants in.
July 19, 2021
Wow. Thanks for quick answer.
July 19, 2021
And glad you are feeling better. I’m contemplating getting this surgery and freaking out a bit.
There is an abyss between the medical community and women talking about BII symptoms.
Do you regret getting the procedure when you look back?
July 24, 2021
I never regret anything. It happened , I was young and I’m grateful that I have the money to get them out now. The perk of having them out on a shallow level, is that my clothes fit better. Lol

Before Photos

I had my check up today and everything is going well. I am still wearing the drains and staying in bed propped up with pillows. I’m on pain killers and antibiotics, so I’m practically feeling no pain, just some tingling sensation.
I’m eating right, drinking lots of water and taking Arnica pills and Bromelain for swelling.
I’m in good spirits and allowing my body to heal by lots of rest.

Implants Out

LadyTLee
Here’s a picture of my drains while on the road to recovery. I really thought these things would bother me the most, but they’re not too bad. They’re smaller than I thought.

I slept well last night. Hardly any pain due to the medication I am taking. Using ice packs as well for swelling and drinking pineapple, strawberry and blueberry smoothies to help with healing as they’re natural antioxidants.
Nurse Karen told me to stay in bed, so that’s what I’m going to do. It’s important to not let the pain meds fool you. It’s still major surgery and you must give your body time to heal.

Hopefully you have your drains out by now and are feeling better. There is such freedom not having implants, enjoy.
April 27, 2021
Tell me about it! I actually put on a blouse today and it fit me so much better. I definitely like having my implants out! Yes, luckily I didn’t have to wear the drains too long. My NP told me when left in too long they can dry out and hurt pulling them out. Yikes!
April 27, 2021
Did you have capsules out?
April 27, 2021
Yes!
April 27, 2021
I hope you're feeling well. How painful has the recovery been? I've been debating and shedding a lot of tears over these capsules for a month now. Had 2 great consults about getting them out last week, but am so scared of the long surgery and pain.
April 28, 2021
If you decide to go through with it, take your pain killers for at least the first three days along with your antibiotics. I got ahead of the pain so hardly had any problems with pain. After the 3rd day I switched to extra strength Tylenol. When you go in for surgery you literally don’t remember a thing. You wake up and everything is over. Really follow the advice of your doctor and do what he/ she says. Rest, rest, rest and stay in your house at least the first week. 2 weeks if you can. The first weeks are crucial to how they will look and how you will feel. And don’t lift anything over 5 lbs.
April 28, 2021
I just want this all over with. I want them out and know they have to come out. I feel like getting the capsules out is best even though mine are thin. Do you know if your capsules were thin? Over or under the muscle? I am just so scared of being under so long, picking the wrong doctor and major complications. I'm not good at making decisions. Not to mention I'm terrified of what I'll look like!!
April 28, 2021
I got my implants quickly without questions because I was so young and wasn’t thinking. The only question I remember is silicone or saline? I vaguely remember it being placed over the muscle.
Also, when I did my consultation for my explant my PS gave me an ideas for what cup size I would be. Did your PS give you any idea what cup they think you’ll be? Sometimes after explanation you can be bigger than what you started out with naturally. I was surprised I went to a B. I was originally an A cup.
Also, I’m enjoying being smaller. I was a D before and I got tired of carrying that around.
Did you view your doctor’s work?
I was scared too, but know it will be ok. Just find a surgeon who you feel absolutely comfortable with and is board certified.
April 28, 2021
He didn't give me a cup size estimate but said he thinks there's more tissue there than the barely A cup I used to be. Hopefully that's true! I don't even know what I am now..D/DD cup, maybe. I'm expecting worst case scenario with hopes I'll be pleasantly surprised! I was comfortable with him but he didn't have pictures of just explants. He did have pictures on his website, of other procedures, that were pretty good. I was so young (22) when I got implants, I just don't want to make another mistake!!

Surgery is a big deal so meeting with a few more surgeons may put your mind more at ease. My doctor showed me photos at the consultation and gave me an idea of what cup size I would be and he was right, so you’re doctor should be correct. Find someone if you can that has a lot of experience on the specific type of surgery you’re doing. You can get a good idea by viewing their website and social media and then calling to get an estimate on pricing before you book the consultation. Ask trusted friends if they have a great PS that they know and trust.
I would just focus on a an explant and ask if you need a lift. Heal for a year and see if you can get a fat transfer if you want a fuller look. It’s funny, when I was younger I wanted bigger boobs, but now that I’m 50 I prefer them smaller. I felt for me, bigger boobs made me look more matronly. After your explant there is a good chance you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
