58 year old London UK wants 23 year old silicone implants removed

Ok my journey begins. Encouraged by all the reviews on this website and elsewhere. I had 375cc silicone implants 23 years ago inserted under arm. I was 34B I am now 36DD. The novelty soon wore off and over the years I've become increasingly self conscious about my breasts. I've never had them properly checked just the regular NHS mammograms which are probably worthless. The augmentation work was relatively simple and I am hoping explant will be too. I've set a date to see my consultant at end of March and going to ask for ultrasound or MRI at same time. My nipples have dropped over time but other than that I've had no problems until recently when my breasts sound a bit gurgly. I've convinced myself my implants ruptured which given their age is highly likely. I just want removal. I may change my mind later. I was hoping to see someone sooner so end of March seems a long way off but I've taken the first step. I'm not going with my original surgeon, I've opted to go with someone who has a lot of explant experience. Here goes!!!!

I haven't told anyone yet. I'm waiting to see consultant for scans and plan forward at end of month. Once I know what I'm dealing with I will talk to people. I know I'm doing the right thing.

I would highly recommend Mr Charles Durrent at The Nuffield Hispital Chichester West Sussex if you don't mind the post op journey ( approx 45 mins to London via motorway. He is an exceptional surgeon and very experienced with explant & capsulectomy surgery - he doesn't use drains so much less discomfort and Mede free after 4 days. I wiuld recommend an overnight stay the cost is £4.700 approx all inclusive. Please check out his website. I am 6 weeks post op after my bilateral explant with Capsulectomy ( 21 year old silicon implants 200cc under muscle, no rupture) and I'm feeling great. I'm 61 yrs old and and didn't!t want a replacement.. Best thing I have done, nonback pain, no anxiety and love my new small breasts now I would guess to be 32 A just at the 'fluffing stage. I'm sure your be really happy with your natural, soft breasts. Good luck! X

Counting down days till my first consult…

Counting down days till my first consult which seems such a long way off. Desperate to get and MRI or ultrasound to know what state I'm in after 23 years. Dont think that will happen on consult day so it'll be another referral. More waiting baaah!

I had silicone implants for 30 years, finally explant about a month ago. I am thrilled with my results and how good it feels to be natural. Far from perfect but I look way better than I expected. Zero regrets.
I'd say 99.9% of women on here are happy they explanted. You are going to be amazed at how good it feels to be free! Best wishes on your journey! Keep us updated xoxo

Thank you daylily77. You look amazing. I'm very encouraged by all the support on here. I've still not told anyone yet but plan to do so as soon as I've had consult. I have no doubt my husband will support me I just don't want to worry him unduly now. My grown up daughter only found out I had implants less than a year ago so it will be interesting to see her reaction. It was so totally out of character for me to have implants in the first place. For many years they have been fine although I have been self conscious about people knowing I have them. As I've got older I have put on a little weight and I now feel quite matronly and buxom when trying on clothes. Can't wait. I'm just praying it will all be quick and straightforward. I'd like them out well before July as I've a wedding to go to and I've got to plan my surgery slot carefully as I share the care of my elderly parents with a relative so can't be out of action too long. I'm determined to go ahead though. I'm not sure what my surgeons waiting times are.

You are going to love how slim you will look! It is said that after explant women look on average about 10 pds lighter.
An MRI should show if you have rupture or not. When I had my first set of 25 years taken out 5 years ago they were not ruptured, so hopefully yours will not be.
My surgery was so simple. Just novocaine and a Xanax. I was awake and talking to the doctor and nurses. Afterwards I went out to lunch! I had zero pain. Did not need any pain meds. It was a breeze! The only discomfort was when he gave me the novocaine - it burned.

Thank you. Can't counting down the hours. Hopefully I'll be able to run faster too. I love tennis and running so guess it will take a while before I can do that and I'll need strapping up!!! Gosh hope they are not to saggy. At least there are plenty of good bras and padding around nowadays.

Also daylily do you mind me asking your age. I'm 58 and have had implants since 1994 23 years.

Your implants aren't that large and looks like you have a good bit of natural tissue so you should you look great!

I will be 56 next month and got implants in 1991. I was completely flat when I got implants - was underweight, 98 pds. Now about 120.

I've a nasty cold at the moment. I've noticed I have trouble shifting colds lately. I had one for two months over Christmas. Wondering if my immune system is down. I'm wondering how soon I'll be able to shower after explant. Also wonder which route the explant will take. My implants were under armpit and I know they can be removed that route. However I suspect rupture ( don't know why just after all this time they can't be intact) in which case it will be under breast. I'm happy either way.

Ok off to consultant today. First step. Nervous but can't wait. Really hope he'll arrange a scan asap.
Also hope I can have the op sooner rather than later. Waiting is worse than anything. Planning on telling my best friend tomorrow and my husband at weekend he's away on business till the.
