Asian in 20s - breast fat transfer with Dr. Bednar
Journey2boobsJanuary 17, 2019
WORTH IT$11,300
After doing my research and comparing reviews from other doctors, I chose Dr. Bednar for his amazing results and high fat retention rate. He's truly an artist. Dr. Bednar and his team are incredible. They were organized, punctual, transparent, and everyone executed their roles perfectly. Dr. Bednar and his staff were professional yet warm and caring at the same time and I felt comfortable to ask them anything. I am excited to learn that Dr. Bednar injected 540cc to each of my breasts. He estimated that about 65% to 70% will retain. I can't wait for the day when I no longer have to wear heavy padded bras to fit into my clothes. Thank you so much Dr. Bednar, Sylvia, Joel, Kendall, Sou, and the rest of the team!

Below bust: 30.5 in
Around nipples: 32.5 in
Waist: 29 in
Hips: 37 in
I usually wear 32B or 34A pushup bra to give me some volume. My boobs are too small to fit either so I can’t wear loose crew necks or v necks. To be realistic I would probably fit a 34AA.
I have perky small breasts that were made up of more muscle than fat. I have an athletic body so my upper body looks unbalanced without breasts. Growing up I would always wear pushup bras to help give me a more balanced look and fill up my shirt. . But that never works because I don't have enough upper boobs so they keep sliding down, exposing my nipples.
Even with a regular padded bra, I can't seem to find one that fits me.
I wanted bigger boobs but I refused to think about implants, as I did not want foreign objects in my body. I was surprised to find out that breast fat transfer is actually a thing! I was disappointed to read so many reviews that stated that the cost was not worth the half-cup increase. Then I saw a before-after photo from one of Dr. Bednar reviews and that pretty much sold me.
After a few weeks of research, I scheduled a consultation. Spoke to Sylvia. She’s super sweet and made everything super easy for me as I am from another state. She recommended me to the Hamptons Inn which is about at 10 minute drive to Dr. Bednar’s office (they provide free shuttle to the office). It is also in a city center and is surrounded by a bunch of restaurants, WholeFoods, and Walgreens.
Dr. Bednar called me a day later or so and explained about the procedure. He said that Asians have a high retention rate said that it may possible for me to increase 1 to 1.5 cups sizes.
I sent Sylvia my CBC which I had done recently at my yearly checkup. I put down my deposit, which is 50% of $11,300 and booked my appointment for 4 months later. About 1 month before my operation, I received a care package. It contained pre-op, post-op care instructions, a wirefree bra, vitamins and scar creams, prescriptions, and explanation of risks and complications. I was to get my prescriptions filled, read and sign the paperwork, and bring everything with me. I also had a phone pre-op with Sou, the RN. She just went over what I should avoid eating/drinking as well as my medical history.
I sent Sylvia my plane itinerary and she arranged a car to pick my boyfriend and me from the airport and take us to the hotel. That’s so awesome of her. It makes things less stressful for us being from out of town and all.
When checking into the hotel, I told the concierge my appointment time and they scheduled for a shuttle to take me there the next morning. They schedule you based on first come first served basis and you can only book the shuttle once you physically arrive at the hotel.
We arrived at the Hamptons around 9:30pm and everything was closed. We ordered McDonalds and had UberEats delivered it. Forgot the name but there was a prescribed medication I had to drink the day before surgery. After that we Ubered to the nearest 24-hour Walgreens to get Norco and Valium prescriptions filled since I wasn’t able to do so back home. I also stocked up on some Ensure and yogurt. Also took some stool softener as instructed. NO FOOD OR WATER after midnight the night before surgery.
Day 1:
My pre-op is on the same day as my surgery. I showered using Dial antibacterial soap as instructed. The shuttle took me to the office. Got there around 7:30 so we just walked around and waited until they unlocked the door at 8.
Kendall, the RN, looked over my paperwork and made me copies. I also paid off my balance. I used CareCredit to pay for this surgery. You can find information about this on Dr. Bednar’s website. With this you can apply for 12 month interest-free financing.
Kendall then brought me into the room to get all of my vitals and took some pictures. Then she gave me anti nausea medicine, Norco and Valtrex with a small cup of water. I hate needles and never had one pain-free experience. I also never had an IV hooked up to me before. The IV needle gage is a lot bigger than the blood-drawing needles or the shot-giving needles. However, Kendall is amazing and it was completely painless when she hooked up the IV.
Then Joel, the anesthesiologist came in to explain what’s going to happen when I go into the operating room. He gave off a very calm and confident vibe. I knew I was in good hands. I wasn’t afraid of the operation but was concerned on going under. He said there is nothing to be worried about. The anesthesia turns off my awareness so I won’t even know about time passing. However, my body will feel everything and that’s why Kendall gave me the Norco prior to surgery. Once Joel puts me under, they will put a breathing tube down my throat and a catheter in since the IV is constantly hydrating me.
After Joel spoke to me, Dr. Bednar stepped in. First thing I noticed, he is really really really tall, powerful and confident, and he made me feel so safe. I was so glad I chose him. He started to draw on me about places he will take from and place he will leave alone. He marked my butt crease and emphasized that he won’t any take any fat there or my hips. My main donor areas are flanks and back of my thighs. He said if he needed more he will use some my inner thighs. I thought about asking him to lipo my lower abdomen but I was afraid it may end up looking flabby and deformed. My lower belly isn’t too bad at the moment so I chose to leave it alone.
Then the Kendall and Dr. Bednar walked me into the operation room. All I remembered was Kendall telling me to lay down with my head on the pillow Joel was holding in place for me. I heard Joel said something to me and I slowly closed my eyes.
My eyes were heavy and someone was touching me, telling me to wake up. I heard, “the shuttle is here”, feeling myself getting on a wheelchair, then I was back at the hotel in my bed. Just like that…so quick and easy. I woke up a few hours later and went to pee. It was weird trying to pee while wearing the girdle despite that it was crotchless. My butts and thighs were super sore so sitting down was literally a pain in the ass. I gave my boyfriend a good laugh every time I walked cause I would waddle like a penguin. Getting in and out of bed was painful (as if I just had the biggest workout or someone beat me up).
Took some Norco, then knocked out again. Every time I woke up, I felt super uncomfortable due to the tight Ace bandage around my breast. I tried to eat yogurt, mac and cheese, drink Ensure each time I woke up, but I couldn’t keep anything down. I took a pill for nausea and was finally able to keep Ensure down. Dr. Bednar called around 9pm to check up on me. I remembered I was pretty slow and silly while talking to him because I was hopped up on medications. I remembered he said he was able to inject 540cc to each breasts. About 65% to 70% will retain. I was ecstatic to hear such high numbers.
My boyfriend stacked about 5 pillows for my back and a couple more under my legs to so I can lay in a sitting position to help with the swelling. I took another Norco and fell asleep. I have a preexisting back pain and that made sleeping sitting up on my back quite difficult. I would wake up every 3 hours or so due to the pain med wearing off, walk around, then take another Norco to help with the pain, and went to sleep. I probably took about 6 Norco pills today.
Day 2:
I woke up with sharp pains in my breasts. My body was super sore. I was able to use the restroom by myself today though. My butt still hurts every time I sit down. My boyfriend still needed to assist me on getting dressed since I couldn’t really bend down or lift my legs.
The shuttle took me to Dr. Bednar’s for my 9am follow-up. Kendall removed my bandage and pads that were placed to absorb fluids coming out the small holes Dr. Bednar made on my breast to release pressure. It wasn’t that scary seeing my new boobs for the first in the mirror. They were like gigantic dome-shaped pancakes, bruised, and have little needle-size holes all over. I guess because I’ve been looking pictures from Dr. Bednar’s previous patients so I knew what to expect. Kendall then took some after pictures of my breasts.
Dr. Bednar showed me my before and after pictures and it was a huge difference.
I was instructed to send him pictures after 1 month and 3 months. Then Kendall helped me put on the wire free bra. I wish she kept the pads on my boobs because drainage started to stain the bra.
I was able to eat normally today. No longer needed the nausea medication. I took it easy today and spent time writing this blog, watch movies, and took a couple of naps. Around 5:30 I walked around the plaza.
After dinner I went back to my room, took off the bra and apply some Arnica gel to help with the bruising. I placed some tissue on top before putting the bra back on.
My boobs were still oozing out drainage from the small needle holes.
I woke up in the middle of night with my legs and some lipo spots itching. I took some Valium to help me relax and after an hour or so I went back to sleep.
Day 3:
SHOWER DAY. I took off the bra but left the garment on. I made sure to use slightly warm water, as hot water will increase swelling. It felt good to be clean. It wasn’t fun taking off all the pads taped to my suture sites on my butts and lower back. Felt like I was getting waxed because they stuck to my skin like glue. I dried myself and my boyfriend helped apply Arnicare gel to the bruises. I didn’t apply any on my breast due to it still having drainage coming out, as the instruction said to apply to dry areas. I didn’t have any gauze on hand so I placed some tissue paper on my breast before putting on the bra. I changed into the 2nd girdle (also provided by the office).
I didn’t feel any sharp pains or aches today. My thighs and butts were still store so it hurts to sit down and get up. I didn’t have to take any pain meds today. Walked to the mall. Ubered back and took a good nap.
It’s 6:30pm right now. I just looked at my boobs and my boobs are still oozing drainage. Some spots are darker than others.
Just measured and it’s about 34.5 to 35in at the moment.

Looks great so far. Please keep up updated at your 1 week, 2 week, and 1 month. Would love to see how much the breast changes.
Did Dr Bednar estimate how much he thinks you’ll retain?
January 18, 2019
He said 65% to 70%. That's with following all instructions of no alcohol, workout for at least 3 months, norman diet, sleeping on my back, and no bra with wire or padding.
January 18, 2019
Wow so you’ll retain around 350cc of pure fat. That’s a pretty good increase. How far did you have to travel to see him and how many days did you stay in charlotte?
January 18, 2019
I stayed for 4 days in Charlotte including day of surgery. Was a 4 hour flight.
January 18, 2019
Did you do lymphatic massages?
January 18, 2019
No I did not. Not planning to either. My body seems to be healing pretty quickly.

January 18, 2019
Thanks for coming back and updating! This is so thorough and helpful!
January 19, 2019
Thank you very much for the detailed account! It’s increasingly he got that much in. So does he use syringe to inject small amounts into dozens of places? All doctors I have talked to inject in just 1-3 places. Thanks!
January 19, 2019
I was awake but still drugged up when he was calling me on the phone for a check up 8 hours later. I just remembered 540cc in each breast and he used a smaller needle to inject fat near the cleavage area. I think he injected the fat using the needle, trailing the fat in a fan like manner.

Day 4 - flying home

No pain in breast a today , of course unless I accidentally whack them with my hands. I can move around easier but still have difficult getting out of bed or up out of chairs from lipo soreness. I have swelling around my waist area so having the girdle on makes me look like I have a flab for booty. I'm not too worried. Once the swelling go down and when I can wear my Leonisa shaping wear it will shape my body back to have some curves. Less to almost no discharge were coming out of the pressure needle points. I had shortness of breath today and talking made it worse. I had trouble breathing the the first day due to the Ace bandage wrapped tightly aroundp. I tried to take deep breaths which helped. Today I think it was because I was walking more instead of being in bed so the swelling around my waist increased which made the girdle cinched even tighter. My breast still felt tight and heavy and I still walked with a bit of a hunch back, something I forgot to mention during my previous update.
Going through security at the airport wasn't too bad. I couldn't raise my arms all the way up in the body scanner machine. I told the lady that I just had surgery so she was nice and gentle. She only patted me from the waist down then let me go.
For those who are curious as to if I could have flown home at day 3, yes I could have. I'd have to walk even slower. I was glad I didn't have fly until day 4 post op.
The fly home was uncomfortable but not unbearable. I didn't take any Valium but still managed to take a 40 minute nap until we landed.
I took a laxative and emptied everything the day before my surgery. I've been taking 1-2 Colace pills
a day to help with constipation but no go yet. I don't feel like crap though (no pun intended). Ihad to drive for a bit that same night when I got home. Boy it wasn't fun when I got to speed bumps. My car is also a standard so I had to constantly shift gear then use both arms to turn the steering wheel because I couldn't raise both arm high enough to make turns by themselves. I looked like one of those people who turned with both hands little by little.
Typing this on my phone so forgive autocorrect might have messed up some things.

Thanks for your review! Keep us updated down the line with your final fat retention results!
That's great to read that Asians retain more of the injected fat! That's a huge concern for anyone opting for Fat Grafting.
I'm also Asian and having my surgery next Thu., 2/6. Getting a capsulectomy after 3 revisions and getting an explant with Fat Grafting.
They are concern not enough fat and general retention with Fat Grafting being 40-50% retention and 50% being generous retention.
I'm hoping the surgeon I'm going with locally here in Colorado Springs (UC Health Cosmetic Surgery), Dr. Wong, female surgeon, is able to transfer as much as you in each.
I've read many reviews and saved them into my Notebook of similar stat patients and the amount of fat they got transferred to share with my surgeon. She wanted to stay conversative and said sometimes the 2nd go around has better retention plus leaving some for touch-ups do to the explant.
Hope all is going well for you still! It really helps reading everyone's stories/journeys and outcomes.
I hope you start a blog. I would love to follow your journey!
This is my response to yours:
I think one of my breast is a tiny bit bigger than the other and is dropping a bit slower. I think over time they will settle and be around the size. My left originally is slightly bigger than my right before the surgery. But Dr. Bednar injected the 540cc in both. It's normal to have one bigger than the other. Only person who will notice is you since but no one else will ne able to tell. Dont worry too much. give your body some time to heal :)
