Definitely a botch
I'm 2 months post op. These are my results. The right breast looks completely different from the left breast. Don't go to Shifrin. Not only will he botch you but he'll be extremely rude when you try and address your concerns. Go read my first review for more details. I can't believe I paid 9,500 for asymmetrical breasts.
Breast Augmentation
I received a Breast Augmentation/Breast lift from David Shifrin MD on October 8th, 2020 and my experience goes as follows:
First Consultation: I went into Dr Shifrin's office in October of 2019, unsure of what I needed to to do to improve my overall breast appearance, but feeling strongly about wanting to improve my breast appearance as I didn’t like them. At this point in my breast augmentation journey Dr Shifrin was very informative and welcoming. After looking at my breasts, Shifrin determined that I needed a breast augmentation, periareolar lift(breast lift), and to fix a constricted breast deformity that I had. He quoted me $9,500 for everything excluding the bliscare protection plan which cost me an extra $250. He said that this would be a fun project and seemed to enjoy what he does for a living.
Due to a financial restriction, it took me a year to come up with the money for this procedure, so I had to do another consultation with Dr Shifrin before I could schedule the surgery.
Second Consultation: My second consultation with Dr Shifrin was on September 16th 2020. At this consultation, Shifrin was not as informative and every question I asked I was given a short, not very detailed response. I chalked it up to the fact that I had my first consultation with him 11 months ago and that he assumed I remembered everything from the first consultation. I came in with the money, ready to pay for my procedure and was eager to get it scheduled and because the first consultation went so well, I didn't have a problem with how this consultation was going. So I paid for the procedure in full on this day and Dr. Shifrin picked out a few implant sizes for me to choose from that fit with my body type and would look natural and beautiful on me. I ended up picking 225cc. Both of my implants are 225cc smooth round moderate plus profile. I also scheduled my surgery at this consultation and got the pre surgery tests done.
Surgery Day: My surgery was scheduled for October 8th, 2020. The day of my surgery I came in alone due to Covid-19 restrictions and was very nervous. I filled out paperwork and talked to one of the nurses. I waited a few minutes and Dr Shifrin came in briefly, did the incision marks on my chest and was excited for me to get this surgery done. No one really said much to me except for the anesthesiologist who talked to me all the way up until I fell asleep from the anesthesia. The anesthesiologist talking to me was very helpful and made me more comfortable. The next thing I remember is waking up on my side. The nurse came into the room and told me to turn back over which I did immediately. I asked the nurse if there is anything I can do to prevent myself from turning on my side and she responded with "Your boyfriend could stay up all night watching you." At the time I thought she was just trying to be funny and laughed. I told her I was cold and she got me a heated blanket which helped a lot. She also had called my boyfriend before I even woke up so he'd be here right when I woke up which was nice. She proceeded to ask me a bunch of personal questions about my pregnancy and breastfeeding and how it changed the appearance of my breasts. All of this conversation is going on while I'm very out of it from anesthesia and being heated up from the blanket. She then helped me get dressed and into a wheel chair and wheeled me out to my boyfriend.
The evening of October 8th, 2020 I figured out for myself how to prevent myself from turning onto my side in my sleep. I bought a neck pillow and my boyfriend tucked pillows into my sides, I also had a special pillow that elevated me, none of them touching my breasts. I proceeded to sleep like this for the first 6 weeks after my surgery.
The evening of October 8th, 2020 I thought about brushing my teeth myself, but didn't as I wasn't sure if the constant, repeating flexing of my right chest muscle during teeth brushing would be an issue for my sub muscular implant.
First Follow Up Appointment: My first follow up appointment was on October 9th, 2020. I asked Shifrin and his nurses if it was safe for me to brush my teeth myself and they said "yes that's fine." I asked them a few other questions and got short yes/no answers and a few sarcastic responses which I thought was them just trying to be funny and laughed.
Right after the follow up appointment I went home and brushed my own teeth and continued to do so twice a day until the evening of October 10th, 2020 when I started to feel a squeezing, pulsing pain in my right breast while in the middle of brushing my teeth. I stopped immediately and removed my shirt and surgical bra and saw a significant amount of swelling in one area on my right breast. I took a picture of it and told my boyfriend about it. He offered to brush my teeth for me for the rest of the 6 week healing period. The intense squeezing and pulsing pain continued through out my whole right breast for about 12 hours after the last time I brushed my teeth. Then the intense pain became isolated to one area of my right breast.
Second Follow Up Appointment: My second follow up appointment was on October 16th, 2020. At this appointment I asked about the excessive pain and swelling in the one area of my right breast. They said this was normal and to keep icing the area which made sense and I did so.
Third Follow Up Appointment: My third follow up appointment was on November 4th, 2020. At this point I was still experiencing a significant amount more pain in one area on my right breast then the rest of my both of my breasts. I told Dr. Shifrin this and he seemed to take me seriously. He examined my breasts by looking at them and feeling them. He said that pain was normal and prescribed me me muscle relaxers.
6 Week Follow Up Appointment: My 6 week follow up appointment was on November 18th, 2020. At this point my left breast had dropped and was in no pain. My right breast was still sitting high and I was still experiencing pain in the one area I had been experiencing the most amount of pain through out the healing process. It is bigger in one area of my right breast (where the pain is located) than the same area in my left breast. I told Dr. Shifrin this and asked him if this was normal and his response was "sometimes". I asked him what my options are if the implant doesn't drop and the pain continues for longer than normal and all he said was "we could take them out" meaning take out the implants. I asked about a possible revision surgery if the implant doesn't drop and I continue to have pain in that one specific area in my breast and and he responded with "so you think they're ugly??" "They look fine" and he refused to do revision surgery. He was saying all of this stuff in a disturbingly rude way. He proceeded to say "I don't know where all of this is coming from".
All I wanted was reassurance from Dr. Shifrin that the pain was normal and wanted to discuss my options if I continue to have these complications. This whole time the nurse is standing in the room saying nothing. Shifrin continued, "I'm going to go print out your before photo and show it to you." When he left the room the nurse said "I think he took it to heart" "he" being Shifrin.
My boyfriend and I were very disturbed by Dr. Shifrin's behavior at my 6 week follow up appointment. My boyfriend has been very supportive of me through all of this and has been to every one of my appointments excluding the surgery day when he wasn't allowed in the surgery area due to Covid 19 restrictions.
It is now week 7 post surgery for me and I'm still experiencing pain in the same area on my right breast. And this area on my right breast is still bigger than the same area on my left breast. I'd also like to add that the opposite side on the left area is bigger while the same opposite side on the right breast is smaller. It almost appears as if the implant in my right breast moved slightly out of place from the flexing in my chest caused from when I was brushing my teeth for the first couple days after my surgery but I'm not sure. I still have no answer for my post surgery complication.
Another thing I’d like it add is that I accidentally hit my left breast last night (November 23, 2020) and am still experiencing pain but I don’t even feel like I can call my doctors office because of the way I was treated at my last appointment which is not a pleasant feeling to have 7 weeks after a major surgery.
I have a 3 month follow up appointment with Dr. Shifrin on January 8th, 2021. I'll post an updated review.
I’ll post an update sooner if the pain in my left breast gets worse.
