Post-op day 3-4, don't be fooled by feeling good!

DAY 3:
I woke up Monday morning and couldn't believe how good I felt. I had another great sleep (the pain killers are definitely the reason) and my swelling had gone down IMMENSELY. My bra was no longer so tight I thought I'd pop out of it, as a matter of fact is felt quite loose!
I had all my energy back and felt no pain at all. It was like night and day. I still took it easy as my mother in law had written me the day before and said "Make sure you rest! Even when you feel good, your body is still healing." I walked around a little more and was a little more active around the house but for the most part I did the same old watching TV and reading.
I still hadn't pooped yet! Oh my goodness it was killing me. I was maybe consuming 400 calories a day because any more than that made me feel like I was going to explode. But I know my body needed the calories to heal so I was taking my stool softeners liberally.
TIP: I'm very sensitive to constipation, I will tell you the stool softeners do not help, neither to laxatives. Use an enema!
DAY 4:
Felt just as good as I did on Monday if not better. Couldn't believe how good you could feel just 4 days after such a big surgery. They say the worst swelling is between day 2-5 but mine was the first 2 days and never got worse and I loved it.
I took an enema on this day. I couldnt handle the feeling anymore. If it weren't for the constipation I would have felt amazing but it was holding me back. I had started to take laxatives Monday morning, Monday evening and Tuesday morning. This didn't work. It did as my fiance said it would and make my stomach turn and turn but nothing happened. It is because you are blocked from the outside, putting laxatives inside you wont get things moving. You need to get it at the source so I used an enema after clearance from my PS. Within 3 minutes I was cleared out and cleared out for good.
The pain killers 5 times a day is what stopped me in my tracks. On Monday I only took the heavy duty pain killer once and night and same with Tuesday and I think that's why I no longer experienced constipation after the enema. From here on out I only took it at night to help me get to sleep as laying on your back is very hard. Although I was really getting used to it. Knowing I didn't have to find a comfortable position actually helped me sleep.
DON'T BE FOOLED!
Since I felt so good I started doing more. Emptying the dishwasher, for example. This involves bending down, reaching, and lifting. I was careful about listening to my body and knowing when something was too much. Sometimes I could feel a little pang when I reached to high or bent down too low and made sure I slowed it down.
My job after long trips is to unpack! I can't stand unpacked bags for more than a day and because we were gone so long our front hallway was filled with unpacked bags and boxes. Bless my fiancee's heart, he hadn't had time to get to them. While he was away at a meeting, I walked past the hallway and decided if I take it slow, go piece by piece, I could have the hallway cleared and everything unpacked in an hour. I worked slow and took individual items out of the bags and walked back and forth. Just squatting down and standing back up gave me a head rush and I could feel my heart pound for a few seconds which really is a big no-no. Heart rate should not go up. I figured it was ok and kept going. I started testing my strength by picking up bags. I picked up two, one in each hand, and began to waddle down the hallway. I realized I couldn't decide if they were too heavy or not which probably meant that they were and I decided it wasn't worth it.
I had watched a youtube video of a girl 7 days post op who had developed very big bruises on her sides from doing too much lifting too early, specifically grocery bags, so I remembered this as I decided to put the bags down and realized it really wasn't that important. Perhaps I decided this too late...
PHOTOS:
I couldn't believe how much the swelling went down. I could actually see the size a little better. I felt petite again! I even started to think I could have gone bigger. But yet again, don't be fooled...

Post-op Day 2

SWELLING:

Swelling is the same as day 1. Everything was stiff. I slept well the second night, didn't get up to pee at all. Woke up a few times in the night but went right back to sleep. I was really, really pleased to be sleeping this easily.

Day 1 and 2 I could still walk around the house. It was nice to be up. I'd stand in the kitchen while my fiancé made me a smoothie in the morning and even sat out on the back patio to get some fresh air. I would get tired very easily though. Walking up the stairs would make me want to sit down and rest for an hour!

The swelling out of the bra was the only discomfort, there wasn't any actual pain. I couldn't feel the implants inside me. A lot of girls I read about said the implants felt so foreign and they never knew if they'd ever feel apart of them. I am on day 6 and I have never felt that way. They are sore, and stretched, but they don't feel like foreign objects and they don't feel like they're not mine.

TAKING PICTURES:

I sent another photo to my surgeon the day after my surgery regarding the swelling and bruising at the base of my cleavage which he said was normal. I assumed it was and wasn't too worried about it but better safe than sorry. I really had to ignore these photos and not think too much about how large I looked everywhere. The bloating from the constipation didn't help my cause but compared to my post up picture I just looked huge. Not even the implants, just me in general. I had absolutely no idea at this point if the implants were too small, too big, or perfect and I didn't think about that too much. Looking at so many post-op photos before my surgery and reading about so many peoples experiences really helped me to remember that this is just the beginning and they will look nothing like this in a month. Because they looked really bad at this time!

ROAD TRIPS:

I live an 8 hour drive from Toronto, I am from there and have a place there but our actual home is farther away. I was to drive back to our house with my fiancé on the Sunday, my surgery was on the Friday. We were worried it was too soon, and Saturday night I wasn't sure how I would feel Sunday morning and whether or not I'd be up to it.

Sunday morning I woke up feeling better. Still tight and swollen but the bra wasn't as restricting so I knew the swelling had subsided a little bit. I could also feel that the anesthesia was fully out of my system, felt like a cloud was lifted. I still wasn't confident on the drive back but I was so eager to get home to my own bed. After a few hours of being up, moving around a bit and eating some breakfast (very small one as I was still constipated), and taking my pain meds, I decided I could make the journey.

I'm glad I did. The bumps in the road didn't hurt, only toward the end I felt a little discomfort but we got out to pee and walk around a couple of times and having ice on them really helped a lot.

When we finally arrived home I was exhausted, a little sore and ready to go to bed. At this point I was still taking all my meds as directed and still taking the heavy duty pain killers every 4-6 hours.

FOOD:

I am a very healthy eater to begin with but being this constipated you never want to eat, so if you do, you want it to only be something that will help your cause. Lots of fiber! Smoothie with yogurt, almond milk, protein powder (because you still need to make sure you're getting enough calories) and flaxseed! Lentil soup, spinach, broccoli, chicken and kombucha! These are the only things I ate. And dark chocolate, because I can always eat chocolate.

Pre-op/Post-op day 1

I was most nervous about having to be put under! That was something I'd never done before and I can get a little panicky and was worried how I'd react in the moments leading up to it. However, the facility I was having it done at, called Elements in Toronto, felt like I was having the operation in the Four Seasons spa. The waiting room was quiet and comfortable, other than the doctors and nurses for my surgery I only saw two other patients after my surgery was complete. I saw no one else the entire day. This beautiful atmosphere was very calming and definitely helped me a lot.

While speaking to my surgeon as he was drawing a diagram on my chest, I asked if he thought the implants would be too small. He assured me they would not be and that they wouldn't be too far apart.

With that we walked into the operating room, which was big and bright, floor to ceiling windows overlooking a beautiful little park...doesn't get much better than that! I didn't feel like I was in a dark hospital room, I felt like I was at the spa! I lay on the table and my surgeon and I started chatting about random things, laughing and keeping it light. Everyone was super friendly and in a great mood which just added to the positive energy in the space. The anesthesiologist told me I would start to feel like I had a few glasses of wine. I started feeling it and closed my eyes thinking he'd give me the final warning when I'd actually start to fall asleep, and with that I woke up in the post-op room and it was done! It really was that easy!

When I woke up the pain was totally bearable. It just felt tight and sitting up made me nervous but the nurse helped and it was fine. I woke up very quickly and didn't go back to sleep, I didn't feel sick at all, felt fine just a bit drowsy but far better than I thought I would. I just wanted to get home and knew my fiancé and mom were in the waiting area waiting for me. BUT they won't let you go until you pee!! And I could not pee!! It took my three hours to pee even after I drank 6 cups of water and juice. I always have to pee, so this was weird for me but after I finally went I was released.

SWELLING:

The pain that night was bearable with the drugs although I was super, super swollen. My worst swelling days were day 1 and day 2. I was bursting out of the bra, I even had to make two slits with scissors on the sides because I felt like my circulation was being cut off. The bruising was mainly in my upper chest and cleavage but even into my stomach. There was a small bit of bruising at the base of my cleavage but I think that also was due in part by the tight band of the bra cutting everything off. I hated the bra and couldn't imagine a month longer in it.

We took off the bra to make sure everything looked ok. I sent a picture to my PS and he said everything is as it should be, just very swollen and to not judge anything by the way that it looks now. That made me feel better, as I looked like a quarterback.

It was also interesting to find that steri-strips were the only thing under the bra. No bands, no bandage, no gauze, just the strips. One of the main reasons I chose my PS is because their office does a "Bloodless" "No-Touch" technique. They go in through under the breast fold, use a camera to move the blood vessels and nerves to create a pocket, this is far less traumatic than creating a pocket swishing a finger in there! So when he sewed me back up there was no blood and no need for all the extra dressing!

I took all the pain meds I was prescribed and besides peeing four times in the night, I slept much better than anticipated, on my back, without a huge desire to move. My fiancé had to help me sit up the first two days, by day 3 I was fine to do it on my own. So every time I had to pee in the night he had to get up and help me.

Re the peeing: The first three days I had to push my pee out. It would take a while to get it all out. My bladder was asleep. I'm on day 6 and it only just came back to fully normal. As for constipation, I was completely backed up and knew that would be the case for a while.
