PO day 9

Today is day 9! I’m feeling worlds better. I got my drain out yesterday finally and life has improved substantially since then. I’m still getting used to being able to move my arm around fully without preemptively wincing expecting pain that never happens. My breasts look great. The incisions are healing nicely. That gnarly bruise behind my nipple is fading. I still have tingly/hard/tender breasts and they still hurt when I do certain things like bend over. For the most part, I’m doing fantastic and I’m really pleased with everything including how attentive the office has been post-op. I got several calls checking in on everything especially while the drain was in. Oh, I also started massaging my left breast but holding off on my right for now. It needs to heal a bit more before I start massaging on that side now.

PO day 6

I’ve gotten SO much better in such a short period of time. I felt so awful at first that I didn’t imagine I would be recovering this much within a week. Today was my first day back to work at my office job and it went fine—the only discomfort I had was moving my right arm with the drain there. My left breast’s swelling has gone down and is no longer so tender. My right breast feels ok too and the zingers are mostly gone. My breasts are still slightly tender and tingly. I developed some pretty awful looking bruising on my right nipple but it was from having had the fibroadenoma removed from it. It will go away. I had my stitches removed today (yay!) and was told that everything looks good. Unfortunately, I still have enough drainage to warrant keeping it in place for two more days. I understand why, but I’m really getting tired of sponge baths. Overall, I’m really happy with my breasts and with the fibroadenoma being gone and I hope this upward trajectory continues.

Day 3 PO!

The pain has lessened SO MUCH from day 1 and 2. I’ve been able to be a part of home life a lot more, but I’m still resting in bed a lot. Each day I feel a lot better and I just hope this trend continues. If this would’ve been a straight BA with no active lactation and no fibroadenoma removal I probably would’ve felt COMPLETELY FINE or close to it by now. My left breast’s swelling and tenderness to the touch has subsided, and my zinger in my right breast really only acted up once and that was in the morning. My main source of discomfort at this point is my drain site. Hate that thing. Hurts to move my arm and especially hurts to clean out/change bandages. Speaking of which, I still have enough drainage to warrant keeping it in place although my doctor was hoping to have it out today. It is draining less and less each day, though. Should be ready to be taken out on Monday when they take my stitches out. I’ve still been at home doing the bare minimum, sleeping on my back (of course) and elevated (maybe this helps?), sponge bathing due to my drain site which I cannot get wet, eating my healthy foods, drinking my water, taking my antibiotics, and hoping this upward trend continues for good. I haven’t even really looked at my breasts today, because I’ve just been focusing on how I feel. I’ll post a pic soon. I hated my breasts so much that I didn’t even take a before picture. Maybe I’ll be able to get one from the surgeon. If you’re reading this, all I would advise is have actual help with small kids for the first 5 days or so. Be aware and have a plan with big dogs to make sure they’re not jumping up on you. If you’ve breastfed in the last 2 years make sure the milk is COMPLETELY dried up before getting surgery. I thought I was dried up because I hadn’t breastfed in about a year, but I was wrong, and this has the potential to cause a lot of issues—more than it already has. I’m just lucky I was in my surgeon’s hands and not some quack. But we will see what my body decides to do in the future.
