Yesterday I had my pre-op appointment in preparation for my surgery in a little under 3 weeks! June 14 can’t come soon enough!
I knew I wanted breast implants since high school, when I came to the sad realization that my body just wasn’t developing like my friends’ and my (younger!) sisters’. They say breast size is hereditary, but no woman in my family has less than a C or D cup… And yet somehow I ended up with a full bottom half and a AA cup up top - go figure. So needless to say I was always thinking about how to balance out the proportions in my body and didn’t have the means to really consider surgery until now, 10 years later and at age 25.
I am looking for a balancing effect, to fill out my figure, but not to necessarily stand out as someone with “big” boobs. I really just want to be able to fill out a bikini and wear low cut dresses and feel sexy about it.
I am choosing over the muscle to retain the use of my muscles as I am fairly active and enjoy yoga and working with dumbbells in the gym. Under the muscle scared me too much; between the high risk of animation deformity (google a picture… not pretty) and the possible loss of ability to lift heavy things and feel “twinges” in my chest when doing so… under just seemed to me, unnatural and too risky. I wanted my body to still be functional, not just look pretty ! :D
In the same vein, in hopefully lowering risk for some possible side effects, I chose saline over silicone. I’d prefer if there was a rupture that my body would be a little safer and simply absorb the saline, a completely natural and safe solution, rather than have the possibility of silicone gel being loose inside my breast tissue. Personal preference, but this is what drove my decisions.
As for size, my doctor recommended between 270cc-370cc to reach my goal size, with some range allowing him to adjust the size during surgery to see what fits best inside my body. I am also slightly disproportionate (left boob 50cc bigger) so both boobs will be a different size implant. I will update post-op what my official cc’s ended up being!

Following your journey as I will also be getting over the muscle and cannot decide on size so I can’t wait to see your updates and photos :)

Awesome! It is so hard to decide! Some people I’ve heard say 50cc really doesn’t make that much of a difference, but when you’re starting from barely anything or nothing at all I think it does! It’s the day before surgery but I just now decided to have my doc stay in the 270-325 range instead of go up to 370. Trying on rice sizers at home, I think there’s a big difference for me personally! Will update with pictures in a few days :)

Good luck! I have saline implants over the muscle and I'm going to have a revision and lift in a few months. We decided to stay over the muscle. For several reasons. It's a much bigger surgery to switch from one to the other. But, I also was nervous about cutting the muscle and having them under. Many surgeons only do under the muscle, but there are a number of surgeons who will do over the muscle, and some even who prefer it. What I have heard, is as long as you have at least some breast tissue to avoid noticing the implant or rippling, you should be fine over the muscle. I decided to go for silicone implants this time. But, my saline implants have been fine for me for a number of years. I was actually thinking about the ideal implants also. Not exactly sure why I chose not to do those. I think I could've gone either way. Good luck.

I think I’m RealSelf.com illiterate as I didn’t respond directly to your comment haha. My response is above ^

Hi, thanks for your comment! yeah it’s so strange I’ve noticed the same, in that some surgeons will not even consider over the muscle because under has just been the default position for years. Happy to hear of another happy saline implant patient! How long did you go with them before you decided you needed a lift as well? Do you think you needed a lift when you got them the first time or did they just change over time? I know it’s not a lifetime guarantee, but I was hoping that mine would last at least the 10 years or longer before I needed some kind of revision. Not sure yet if I’m having kids but I know that also affects them

It is going to be 14 years since I had the saline implants placed over the muscle. I'm just a saggy person overall lol And now I am 50, so i'm not surprised. My breasts actually aren't all that bad, but because I have a mild contracture that doesn't look as nice now, I decided to go for the lift. Possibly under the muscle would have given me more time before I needed a lift, but who knows? Perhaps the capsular contraction was related to being over the muscle, but again, who knows? Luckily, it's not painful and has progressed slowly. My doctor is going to make sure he does everything he can during the surgery to reduce the chance of another contracture. I think that is a big part of it as well. This is a different doctor than who put in the first ones. So, I think my decision to be over the muscle in the first place and to stay over again is not wrong. I did fine with the saline, but I decided to try silicone this time because I do have some mild rippling. Honestly, saline over the muscle was great for me for years. Definitely an easier surgery and easier healing. Good luck!

Ok, so they did last quite a while before you needed revision then, and I’m happy to hear you had such a good experience with them for so many years !
Thankfully your CC was not painful, I hope this second time around you can avoid it happening again though :/ But I agree I think going over is overall a better option. Best of luck with surgery and recovery!

Day before surgery jitters!

justpeachy417
My surgery is tomorrow morning at 10:30, but I’ll be arriving at 9am for all the preparation. Mostly nervous about the general anesthesia and getting the IV, because I do not do so well with needles lol…
I was trying on homemade rice sizers at home, and while my doc recommended 270-370cc, I tried on just 360cc ( I ran out of rice lol) and that just felt too big for me. Sizing down to about 325cc and it felt perfect. It’s weird, but when I look down at them they don’t look super n big but when I feel them in my hand it definitely feels like more than a handful and really all I need. I thought I would have boob greed but I think I’m actually feeling the opposite - My thinking is I can always size up in the future but I can’t really size down without also getting a lift. Any increase really is going to be such a huge change for me
Attaching some before pictures !

day after!

justpeachy417
It’s the day after surgery and I am feeling great!
I was dizzy yesterday from anesthesia and whatever drug cocktail they gave me for surgery, tight sore chest immediately post op and last night at home, but it felt just like I had a killer chest workout in the gym, if anyone does chest day then you’ll know how it feels. Probably still had the drugs in me from surgery which made me feel that way, but it was honestly 100% bearable. I did start to get a weird stretching feeling but no pain in the evening (I think it was just the skin stretching since I went over not under) so I took a valium for muscle relaxer and anxiety and that fixed the discomfort. Woke up around 7 with stronger pain so I took 1 vicodin, which is still in my system now so again I feel pretty good, just that tight chest workout feeling. No sharp pains or anything (fingers crossed it stays this way!) Just need to remember to space out the valium and vicodin dosages since you can’t take them at once.

I have my post op appt with my surgeon tonight, so I’ll be getting this velcro bra off and put into a regular sports bra that I’ll be wearing 24/7 for 6 weeks. My doc actually recommended that I don’t stay immobile, that I do gentle arm movements as tht helps keep things from getting stiff. Planning on going on a (slow) walk around my neighborhood in a little while. Honestly, I totally hyped myself up for more pain bc I usually have a low pain tolerance (I cry over period cramps lol) . But then again, I went over the muscle so that’s probably why it’s not so bad! Or it just hasn’t hit me yet! haha
