Surgery in January

Almost 2 Months Post Op

I am super delayed in writing this review but I am just about 2 months post op and all is well! I am happy with my results. I'm also happy that I went when I did because shortly after I returned home to Canada, they canceled trips to and from Mexico. Before I get into all the surgery stuff, I would like to advise anyone traveling during covid to definitely plan to spend a bit more. It is required to have a negative covid test before re-entering Canada and the test cost $650 total for my boyfriend and I. Since the testing was done after surgery, I was not able to have it done at the hospital and therefore was unable to receive any special pricing. However, Dr. Arenas staff did make the appointment for me and the place I went for my testing was very professional and the process was very quick.
Overall, my stay in Guadalajara was uneventful which is the best I could hope for since I was very nervous about traveling somewhere I had never been and don't speak the language. Every single person I encountered was very kind and helpful. As I mentioned, I don't speak a word of Spanish so I relied heavily on my translation app but everyone was more than understanding of this.
I stayed in a hotel which was about a 15-20 minute drive from the hospital. I did have to travel back and forth quite a few times but the ubers were extremely cheap. Again, the uber drivers were very friendly and I also felt safe.
Dr. Arenas is extremely kind and makes you feel very comfortable. He also speaks perfect English. His staff are amazing and so willing to help. They aren't as fluent in English but that's where the translating app really helps. I was appreciative that everyone was willing to be patient with me since I am the one who chose to travel to a country where I don't speak the language.
On the day of my surgery, I was extremely emotionally. I was literally crying from when the nurse took me for prep until when I met with the anesthesiologist. Unfortunately I don't remember his name but when I spoke with him, I immediately felt more comfortable because he spoke with me so gently and I felt that he was just so genuine. Before I knew it, I was asleep and woke up in the hospital room.
The nurse, Elizabeth, stayed with me literally all night. They even allowed my boyfriend to stay with me at the hospital overnight which surprised me because of covid but I was super appreciative.
I can't say that the pain was intolerable by any means but it was a little worse than I thought it would be. I feel like it is kind of mind over matter. I knew the pain would pass in a matter of time so I focused my energy on my recovery and I was fine. I always say people say that recovery is more discomfort than pain and it's true. It's hard to find comfortable ways to be without squishing your butt. The leaking of fluid and blood also isn't pleasant.
Elizabeth came to my hotel to help me with draining and bathing which was very helpful. It cost $40 usd each time and was well worth it. She's so sweet. I even messaged her a couple times when I came home and she was happy to help.
In terms of my results, I'm very happy. I feel a lot more confident and know these are not even my final results. Dr Arenas had initially recommended a tummy tuck in addition to the bbl. As my swelling goes down more and more, I feel I may revisit him for the tummy tuck in the future but we will see!
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!

Surgery in January

I've officially paid my deposit and I am going for my BBL in January. I'm extremely nervous now that it's feeling more real. Any advice would be so appreciated. I'm coming from Canada and haven't really traveled before. I've been given the list of hotels to stay in but I was hoping to find something more similar to a resort but it doesn't seem as if there's one near by.

Do you plan on adding pictures to your review? Thanks for documenting your journey with us on RS!
Yes, I plan on it after but no way do I have the confidence to post my before photos until after the problems are already dealt with lol
Hello! I'm going in January as well :). Have you picked a place to stay?
No, I haven't yet. Have you? When in January are you going?
Hi I'm going January' too :)
When are you going ? I'm nervous :/
I'm nervous too. Where are you guys traveling from?
Hi I don't get notified when someone replies but I'm from the Bay Area .
Is anyone coming with you?
Nooo ! That's why I'm more nervous ! Is anyone going with you ?
Yes, my boyfriend is supposed to be coming with me. Do you speak any Spanish?
Yess I do speak Spanish. Which that's what I'm happy about but still wanted to go with someone :/
What day is ur surgery
That's good, you're better off than I am because I don't speak a word! My surgery date is January 14th, when is yours?
Ohhhh how exciting ! Im scheduled for January 13th !
Oh wow, I'll probably see you there! How long will you be staying? Also do you know where you'll be staying?
Most likely yess and I'm going from 01/08-01/23 I'll be staying at a recovery house most likely I'm calling some spots right now to see the prices but most likely recovery house since I'm going alone . Do you know where your staying ?
You're going so early before! If I were going alone, I would definitely stay at a recovery house but its so hard to know where. I'll probably stay in one of the hotels that they recommended but I haven't decided for sure yet. I spoke with another girl on here who said the area is a little intimidating.
I was going early because I wanted to go explore where my mom is from :/ but she said no I'm crazy I'm not going there so I'm stuck in Jalisco lol but I'm staying at the rovi recovery house most likely I just reached out to them to book my dates I think I will be better at a recovery house for sure since I'm going alone.
Are you taking the protein shake or vitamins he recommended ?
I've started with the vitamins but haven't gotten the protein shake yet. What about you? I just searched that recovery house and it looks nice. How much will it be per night?
I started the vitamins and shake as well , my friend recommended arnica as well to help with bruising but idk if I wana take it all , but $125 a night :/ but I feel like it worth I , massages, 3 meals a day, laundry, massages and transportation is included I think it's not bad
Yeah, thats not too bad with all of that included. I would definitely take that route if I were going alone.
Will good luck , most likely we'll see each other if you hear my name or recognize it say hi :)
How exciting I also have my surgery on the 11th and going alone as well. I had booked an Airbnb since I was having someone come with me but they canceled :( how much is your recovery house?
That is so unfortunate! Are you also having bbl? Do you speak Spanish?
Hi where are you traveling from ? I just a had pre-op at my doctors office in California and don't recommend for me to travel due to being unsafe and now I'm nervous af ! But I'm paying $1000 something for 15 days since I'm going alone I wanted to just recover out there with no rush
I feel like any local doctors office would say that but we have researched and wouldn't be going to Dr Arenas if we didn't feel confident. In terms of covid and stuff, the states have more cases than Mexico. I'm a little scared of the location only.
Also, I'm traveling from Toronto in Canada
That's what my co workers said , their like you did your research and you wouldn't be going to him if you didn't feel comfortable. But the way she talked me was can't this wait ?? Why Mexico ? Are you getting general anesthesia do you know if your allergic or anything in like I just had another surgery this year in California and they used general anesthesia and I was fine , but I'm just getting my Covid testing and getting my labs done still out here , but the location where I'm staying isn't bad actually where he works it's pretty nice and a good area it just depends where your staying and the recovery house is 5 mins away from is hospital
That's good! You're better off than me because I've never had general anesthesia but I've had an epidural before and was fine so I'm sure that's a good sign. I couldn't find anything about him having any deaths, have you? I've heard that he's very conservative and safe
I booked a hotel, it's about 20 minutes away but I liked it because it looked nice and came with a whole suite with kitchenette and stuff. Since I am staying with my boyfriend, I was us to both be comfortable

Congratulations on getting scheduled! Are you starting to feel prepared?
